Mass Effect 2 getting Collectors' Edition

Limited-run package for EA and BioWare's sci-fi RPG includes art book, making of videos, comic book, exclusive in-game items; $70 on 360, $60 for PC.

Along with dating Mass Effect 2 for January 26 last week, EA and BioWare announced a number of preorder incentives that include in-game weapons armor for the sci-fi action role-playing game. Today, EA and BioWare offered gamers more options on how to enhance their gameplay experience, announcing a Mass Effect 2 Collectors' Edition for both the PC and Xbox 360 editions of the game.

Packaged in a tin case, the Collectors' Edition includes the game, a 48-page hardcover Art of Mass Effect 2 book, Issue 1 of the Mass Effect Redemption comic book, and a DVD containing behind-the-scenes and making-of footage. Gamers will also be afforded exclusive in-game weapons and armor, which BioWare notes will not be available through any other means.

The Collectors' Edition has the power to move you…

Mass Effect 2 begins with the original game's hero, Commander Shepard, embarking on a dangerous mission to the mercenary-controlled Omega mining facility. BioWare has kept quiet about further plot details, but GameSpot's recent preview offers a closer look at the title's gameplay.

The Mass Effect 2 Collectors' Edition will be available for $69.99 on the Xbox 360 and $59.99 on the PC--$10 more than the standard edition price.

@mikeycj7 "Along with dating Mass Effect 2 for January 26 last week, EA and BioWare announced a number of preorder incentives that include in-game weapons armor for the sci-fi action role-playing game." This means if you in USA it's coming 26th, if EU then 29th..normal verson and special edition are coming out at the same time

how we suppose to get it when it doesn't say WHEN they will release this bad ass addition of ME2! does anyone know?

Dang, I figured that I would get an Omni-Tool with the CE. Bummer.

I thought the CE for Dragon Age was totally worth it, and so i am preordering the ME2 one as well. From a fan's perspective, if you loved the first one you're gonna want to pay the extra $10 for the extras :)

The map system makes the game incredibly straightforward. I'd hate to see how you play games with more complex map systems. I love the first Mass Effect; I'm on my third play through right now. It has very small quirks but currently it's easily my favorite game on my Xbox.

wicked great. tho i got the feeling that the CE will be available only in a very limited amount. Not to mention those who pre-ordered. Ugh. :(

What's with a lot of the hate for Making-of DVDs I'm seeing in the comments here? I happen to find making-of, behind-the-scenes stuff fascinating. I enjoy learning about the process, and seeing how something goes from an idea on paper into something playable/watchable.

Yea Coma, you'll love Mass Effect, great game! HighRisk, the game gets much better once you leave the station, so give it 1 more chance!

I've only just started Mass Effect, I read a lot of articles saying how much of an RPG classic it was, and decided to give it a go. I'm an RPG fan, and I was instantly mesmerized by the depth of story, the immersion, and the range of dialogue options. I've only just started exploring planets, and again, blown away! This game is, to me, the perfect blend of RPG and sci fi themes. I'll be getting Mass Effect 2 for sure, but it's funny, when I read the price for Collectors I was immediately suspicious. Nowadays a CE will go for $110 minimum from what I've seen, but then I haven't read too much, but if this is a complete full game with Collector's pack extras for $70, anyone who likes RPG and sci fi would be nuts to pass it up!!

bioware is releasing nicely priced CE's lately, with Dragon Age being roughly the same with some awesome stuff included (such as blood armor, which can also be used in ME2). Yeah, i'll probably get this too.

I wonder if this is going to be available worldwide, or another deal restricted to one chain of US-only stores? I've been very impressed with the Collector's and Deluxe editions Bioware have done for Dragon Age Origins, and I loved Mass Effect, so will certainly be looking at what goes into the ME2 CE.

I'm tired of getting updates about games getting collector's editions that are filled with crap meant to swindle you out of your money

I'm being voted down for wanting this to be better than the last? Oh, and I hope not all the shots I've seen are PC shots, I'd love to see those graphical tweaks on my console too.

Mass Effect 2 already looks like a huge step forward not only from the first game but also for the storytelling in RPG genre in general. Can't wait for it! :D

@Janpieterzun saying that a game is incomplete because they offer additional things as DLC microtransactions is tantamount to calling a hole unfinished; you can't dig half of a hole because a hole is a hole unless there's a specific size the finished product is supposed to be. there are plenty of characters in the game, and plenty of hours of content. it's not unfinished because they decided to give it more value by adding onto it. is any particular edition of Dungeons & Dragons unfinished at release on the merit that they eventually release supplements? they release supplements EVERY generation, and it's the same idea; expanding a finished game so the consumer has more to enjoy. why should they give all of their hardwork to you for free just because you bought some of it once?

Lets hope Bioware don't skrew over the UK again with a cheapskate package sold at a full collectors edition price like Dragon Age.

Janpieterzun
Janpieterzun

On another note its goddamn travesty that Bioware is owned by EA now you can feel the creativity deteriorating. Micro-transactions for cheats, and in-game items. I mean seriously when i booted up Dragon Age on my 360 they are asking people to pay for extra characters, which isn't really extra just selling you an incomplete game. I fckn hate EA and for the longest time never purchased an EA game, but because of this acquisition... I strongly advocate people pirate EA games don't give em a red cent.

Mass Effect was such a leap forward in rpg storytelling narrative i feel people will never truly appreciate it. I eagerly await ME2 probably the most advanced platform for telling role playing game stories.

hmm, art book sounds nice, and $10 more for 2 books is pretty neat, but imo, whenever i get a standard edition game i feel like im being treated like a second class citisen, (after paing the full first class $60) forza 3 and its 'VIP' car pack is a good examples.

@tapakidney dude, its something as old as time itself. its a game. mass effect, no matter how excellent the game is, is an rpg, its a dungeon crawler set across the cosmos, even the boring parts were engaging and i still play it. every game is the same. borderlands, you dont go across the galaxy in a ship, you get a ride, you go across barren wastelands and kill bad guys and you have fun and level up. all rpgs have the same formula, roam the world given to you to level up to face the big bad enemy at the end. can you imagine going to fight saren at the end of mass effect with the weapons or biotics and LEVEL you were at the beginning? it is all written or plotted to keep you interested in the adventure, and bioware did that they do it every time because they know what we want, and thats why i(along with many) cant wait for the sequel!

Rottenwood

I LOVE Mass Effect, but I'll never understand these collector editions. Are you really going to watch the making-of movie where guys in ironic T-shirts practice texture mapping? Do you need shelf space being taken up by a big tin case and some artwork book you'll flip through for ten seconds, and never pick up again until you move out and chuck it in the trash? Ah well; gotta give these companies credit for having the gumption to prey on obsessive nerdy fandom.

"Making of" clips should be included for free on the disc if at all. Uncharted 2 is a recent example of how this can and should be done. We don't need to pay $10 for the devs home movies.

see, this is a collectors edition you can actually afford instead of something like 200 bucks. i just wish they would add something like a download key for the 2 dlc packs for the original mass effect! i still havent downloaded em and the first one was part of the summer of live event last year for like 2 bucks! give me a thumbs down for that one! ha
