Marvel's Punisher Show Starts Shooting, First Images Revealed

Frank Castle is back!

For many fans, the best thing about Daredevil Season 2 was The Punisher. The popularity of Jon Bernthal's portrayal of vigilante Frank Castle led Marvel and Netflix to announce a standalone Punisher show, and production has now begun in New York. The first on-set images of a bearded Bernthal have been released. Check them out via Just Jared.

According to Comicbook.com, the Punisher show has a working title of Crime. It is unknown when the show will be released. Netflix already has Iron Fist scheduled for next March, while the superhero team-up show The Defenders--which will feature Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist--is expected in late 2017.

However, with the Punisher show now shooting and The Defenders yet to start production, it is possible that it will move ahead of The Defenders in Netflix's Marvel schedule. Iron Fist is the only upcoming series with a confirmed release date--a new teaser this week revealed that it will hit the streaming service on March 17, 2017.

In addition, a second season for Jessica Jones and a third for Daredevil are in the works. Jessica Jones showrunner Melissa Rosenberg recently explained that although she is not directly involved with The Defenders, the fact that it will be screened before Jessica Jones Season 2 was influencing what she writes for her show.

"I need to know what they're doing in order to plan for Season 2 of Jessica, and they need to know what we're planning on in turn," she said. "Marvel is very smart and they enjoy collaboration, so there's never one maniac trying to take ownership."
