Marvel's Agent Carter "Highly Unlikely" to Get Another Season

Marvel's Most Wanted may not be happening either.

Marvel's movies may be huge box office winners, but on the small screen the studio is having a bit more of a struggle to make an impact. While Netflix productions such as Daredevil and Jessica Jones have certainly won fans over, Marvel's higher-profile network shows have not proved as popular as those of rivals DC. It has now been reported that Agent Carter is facing cancelation, and a potential new show, Marvel's Most Wanted, is no longer guaranteed a series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a third season for Agent Carter is "highly unlikely." The ABC show has struggled to find the audience that would ensure further seasons, and lead actress Hayley Atwell has already starred in another pilot, for a show titled Conviction. THR reports that Conviction is expected to be taken to full season.

Agent Carter's second season premiered in January, to underwhelming figures. The season opener pulled in just 3.2 million viewers, less than than half of what season one's first episode managed. Although Netflix rarely release the figures for their shows, it has been estimated that Jessica Jones averaged around 4.8 million viewers per episode during the month after its launch in November.

As for Marvel's Most Wanted, THR states that the Agents of SHIELD spinoff is no longer "considered the lock it once was." In November, it was reported that AMC had ordered a pilot of the show, which is to focus on the characters of Mockingbird and Lance Hunter.

Variety have also commented on this potential series, stating that while it is far from a definite, the show still "has a very good chance of going to series."

Agents of SHIELD remains the only Marvel network show with a guaranteed future. The third season is currently airing, and the show was renewed for a fourth season in March.
