Marvel vs. Capcom 3 gets limited Fight Stick

Mad Catz announces $160 PS3 and Xbox 360 joystick to be limited to 5,000 numbered units; release expected in time for game's February 15 launch.

After a decade-long cease-fire, Marvel and Capcom are set to renew their storied fighting game rivalry in two weeks with the launch of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. To commemorate the return to hostilities between the two companies, Mad Catz will release a limited edition Marvel vs. Capcom 3-branded version of its arcade-style joysticks.

The Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds Arcade Fight Stick Tournament Edition will be limited to 5,000 individually numbered joysticks and is expected to begin shipping out to customers by the time the game launches February 15. Like the Tournament Edition joysticks Mad Catz produced for Street Fighter IV, the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 controller will feature a stick and buttons from arcade manufacturer Sanwa Denshi, turbo functionality, and a storage compartment for the controller cord when not in use. Mad Catz has indicated the stick will be available to order through its own online store, though there's no product page for it as of press time.

Want to take it for a ride?

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will launch with a roster of 36 playable characters split evenly between the two companies. The comics company will be represented by characters like Spider-Man, Captain America, MODOK, and Deadpool, while gaming favorites like Ryu, Dante, Amaterasu, and Wesker will fly the Capcom flag. In addition to the standard arcade and online versus modes, the game will feature technique challenges for each character and issue players a "license card" that will reflect their particular play styles.

there's also a fight pad made by PDP. looks cool. I'm surprised gamespot's news team hasn't reported anything about it.

I like the way the art on MvC2 TE Stick better...and since i already have one...and it works great...not need to get this...

The TEs are fairly priced for a product with quality parts, licensing, and backed by warranty/support. Given the limited market for expensive game peripherals, the small sale rate means they must make a bigger profit on each one. This isn't a commodity so don't expect Walmart prices. If you don't care about the art, my suggestion is to get a SFIV TE stick which hit the $!00 discount mark many times. It uses the same quality Sanwa parts and has the same form factor. Only downside is that the older PCBs were more hit and miss with reliability. Another popular option is to order Sanwa parts and mod a cheaper stick. The parts won't be cheap, but the overall cost is usually less if you don't mind a little labor. I wouldn't do this personally because I'm a fan of the bigger form factors. People pay $300 for a Hori VLX which uses the same Sanwa parts as the Madcatz TE sticks. This just goes to show that form factor is important. Laslty, If money is a concern and you are wondering if you should get one: my advice is "no". I believe MvC3 will be default pad friendly. I'm a fan of these sticks and might pick one up if they go on sale, but there is a high cost and learning curve so I wouldn't recommend it to on-the-fence casuals. You'll know when you want one.

The quality of the Mad Catz TE sticks is in a completely different league to their other controllers. With the Sanwa components they're as tough, reliable and responsive as a stick gets. My SFIV TE is a beautiful piece of kit which only needs the occasional tweak, and at least in the UK the support people are excellent. Unless you want to mod a cheaper stick with Sanwa parts, you can't do all that much better, IMHO.

The only part I would like to complain is How really hard it will be to obtain it, only 5,000 units? MVC is my favorite fighter and Since im still looking to get a fightstick for my ps3 that i just bought, that one would be the best choice, but im now worried about if yes or no i will be able to buy one.

@Black_Man85 You'll never have to shell out that much. Look at my previous comment. You're essentially pay for labor. You can buy a madcatz SE stick for 35 bucks, and pay 40 for the sanwa buttons and stick parts. You can swap them out easily in about 10 minutes.

Dear God. For everyone complaining, I want you to know something. "Good" and "Cheap" are not, and never will be, mutually exclusive. You can go right ahead and buy a 30 dollar hori or happ with cheap parts, have it break withing 3 months and you'll be complaining. The reason these sticks are so expensive isn't due to special branding, but due to the bottom weight and the Sanwa parts (Regarded as the BEST parts in the fighting game scene.). The same parts used in actual arcade cabinets! These parts will last you for well over 10+ years and then some.

Got my SFIV Limited Editon fight stick earlier this year. Luckily it will get more use this year with Mortal Kombat and MVC3 out.

this is shocking.. a new fighting game gets a new fighting stick:roll: looks the same as the other ones already out. people would be better off to buy some marvel or capcom stickers imo. last arcade/fighting stick i bought was on the dreamcast. which was well worth the 50 bucks i paid for it:)

I dont play in the arcades, so i will just use my regular controller. Madcatz and some other companies sticks are suspect anyway. known for jamming and getting stuck with buttons and all.

its made by madcatz there are better sticks to buy for that kind of money. you will be paying for the other 20 fighters.

I have the Tekken 6 wireless fight stick. I've been told that I made a mistake buying that and these fight sticks were much better. Can I get some more input on how these are better and if I should bother shelling out $150+ if I already have a fight stick?

Black_Man85

@acenitro and there will be no X or venom. Unless they appear as dlc and with the crazy demand for mega man, I am sure he would be. But, right now, the roster is filled.

@ FallenOneX The stick. The game is awesome. I might look into a stick later, but my point is that it would be a waste at this stage because there's no guarantee that I will buy more than one fighting game.

Man, they upped the price for this one. The first SF4 editions of these retailed at $150 and are cheaper now. The choice of artwork could have been better, too.

FallenOneX

@SuprSaiyanRockr Do you mean on the game, or the stick? The game... $60, going rate of games these days, not a bad price. Even if you do suck, you can suck by yourself and not go online. I still have fun playing with characters I don't normally use when I play older fighting games by myself. The stick... I'm not the greatest player either, but with fighting games it's the only way to go, unless you get one of the arcade pads they made for SFIV that resemble the Sega Saturn pad. There are cheaper sticks out there that work pretty well.

SuprSaiyanRockr
SuprSaiyanRockr

This would probably be the first fighting game I get into, so I will undoubtably suck to begin with. I can't think why I would spend so much on a game I might not be able to even play.

Eh, seems alright. It would be cheaper to order a custom one online... I will stick to my 360 controller for now :)

Mad catz: make your products either good in quality and and good in price, not good in quality and outrageous in price; there's a reason why you are a third party company!!

I am getting this game on day one, but I don't understand what is wrong with just using a regular 360 controller.

@Assuming an arcade exists near someone. The closest one is an hour away from my house, though the movie theater has a small but nice selection of games (MvC2, Soul Calibur 2, Time Crisis 4, etc). I might get it if at all possible. I would like to have a 2nd one (Or a replacement for the current one) around.

Drop the price by about $90 and then come talk to me.

@Xplode_77: True, but in exchange you're getting arcade-quality parts. Mad Catz made their sticks the new standard. You can always go for the original SF4 stick, which is cheaper but still have the Sanwa parts in them. The only problem might be finding one...I got mine from a fellow GameSpotter!

@DarthVend_basic 99% of the time hardware is more expensive than software, so why are you suprised? A game on a disc of course cannot be worth more than physical construction of plastic, metal and electronics

Only 36? I know that sounds ungrateful, but didn't MvC2 have around 56? The roster numbers are supposed to increase, Capcom!

I find it's a rather interesting thing that fight sticks released for consoles. I have a hunch that there may be an alternative reason there are only going to be 5000 produced; at $160 and the fact that there is (making a broad assumption here) a comparatively small demand for that peripheral. If today's console using generation is anything like me, they'd have grown up with a game pad instead of a stick, and be much more comfortable for use with that. I think that at this point, anyone who wants such a peripheral probably already has it. Even then I feel like that defeats the purpose of actually hitting up the arcade cabinets for a good ol' fashioned romp with a stranger in person.

baystatethrashr

@Thralll those tournament fight sticks were made with the same parts as the arcade machines, and they werent made by mad catz either.

Thralll
Thralll

$ 160 - 60 = $ 100 for the fightstick.. Fair price for it. I mean the tournament edition fightsticks were + $ 150 as far as i remember. Fightstick is better for professional or hardcore fighting gamers, so it`s not too unusual for it to be that costly

Darth_Nater307

No thanks. I'll just stick with a PS3 controller. I need that money to save up for a 3DS.

elbert_b_23

bawwwwww haaaaa haaaaaa haaaaaa haaaaaa 160$ half the price of a system **** that what idiots would pay that

Gen007
Gen007

Well its def nice but not worth the money. All that is is a TE madcatz stick. Why pay 160$ when i can find the SF4 ver which is basically the same thing besides the artwork for $100. That artwork def isnt enough to justify the price. Then again i guess its a collector type thing since MvC is so huge and the limited run will mean that the value of these sticks are gonna be high down the road.
