Mark Strong voicing Total War: Rome II

Sherlock Holmes villain voicing General Silanus in opening stages of upcoming strategy game.

Sherlock Holmes and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy actor Mark Strong is lending his voice to Total War: Rome II, publisher Sega announced today.

Strong will play the role of General Silanus, a character who guides players through the opening stages of Rome II.

"If you're trying to find a way to give him gravitas and to make him believable, you've got to make the lines sound like somebody you would follow into battle," Strong said in a new video. "So I've given him kind of a gravelly strength."

Rome II also features a soundtrack performed by the Slovak National Symphony Orchestra conducted by The Dark Knight and I Am Legend veteran Jeff Atmajian.

The game launches September 3. It is the fastest preordered title in the history of the franchise.

Downloadable content will be available for all Rome II users on launch day for free. For more on the title, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

that's all you've got ? Just one actor ? How about ACTORS..., many of them , and WITHOUT that stupid english accent ? Eh ?

Have played Totar War since day 1 of Shogun 1 in the day, Rome was always my fave until FoTS. Rome Total Realism was better though (mod), and I wish they had voiced Rome 2 in Latin and it's other native languages,

Loved him in Kickass and Robin Hood, good actor.

They should also get the guys who played Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo in that Rome mini-series in HBO.  Those guys were awesome.

I am still waiting for a game that marry the tactical combat of Total War series with the strategic depth of Civilization series.

In the mean time I will play Civ 4 and Shogun 2.

Mark Strong has awesome resume...  he was awesome in Sherlock .. and he did awesome in Robin hood!! Need more actors like him getting involed in these projects ive played countless games that could of been awesome but the voice acting can play a huge part killing a game or making it really dull an boring!

Gerard Butler (played king Leonidas in 300) would have been a better voice for this role in my personal opinion, though I do think they got a good actor for the role, but like I said Gerard Butler would have been a better choice if they could even afford him or even get him to do it.

Saving up to get a decent Gaming PC just to play this game, I would build one my self but I have no fucking clue how to so I'll let the shop do it for me.

While I DO like Mark Strong, theres nothing of what I heard of him on the trailer that makes me want to buy Rome II... :P

If they craft a good Carthaginean campaign I'll get it though... DESTROY ROME!!! :P

So I guess a line that won't be in: "Hopefully we win, or else we're gonna be killed."

Good choice, but I'll never understand why all ancient peoples have to have British accents in modern media...

@Grimkillah You might want to give Imperialism II a try. It's an oldie but it comes very close to what you want

@Nitroc He's a cool dude, was also in Sunshine and Kickass. Has a great voice and the intensity required for that role.

@jayjay444 His accent can ruin the game actually , Mark Strong's voice is deeper and he can speak without the british accent.

@no_fear_in_hell If you don't' have a reason to buy Rome 2 without mark strong, please leave now. Honestly you have no business on this article if you didn't already pre-order the game unless you are going to pre-order the game.

@parrot_of_adun Usually because they've been produced in, or for, American audiences (or in the UK instead!?).

American accents are usually shunned for anything from before the United States existed. So, they want people to sound different but they need them to be speaking English and understandable still.

Therefore: British accents.

It's a long standing trend within modern media as you say, but this alone affirms the trend as it has become established within the psyche of viewers.

Audiences usually accept the British accent without question whereas other accents, which might be less familiar and more difficult to understand, due to less exposure, would likely feel more incongruous.

ALSO, Creative Assembly are British so of course they're gonna get a Brit to do their voice acting! ;)

@LordCrash88 @no_fear_in_hell Im not sooo well versed in Latin as to fully understand that, but if you meant that Carthagineans were in turn destroyed... History can be re-written, you know. :)

Anyways, LOVE your avatar. Witcher for the WIN!!! :P

Grenadeh

@no_fear_in_hell @LordCrash88 He meant Carthage must be destroyed. It's a gerundive of obligation. And he also spelled it wrong by using the wrong endings but it was close (not that it's one of the most famous quotes in the entirety of history and impossible to screw up)

LordCrash88
LordCrash88

@no_fear_in_hell @LordCrash88 Actually I stated that Carthage SHOULD be destroyed... That will be the number 1 top priority for my Roman troops.... :)

Already preorderd Rome 2, can't wait. ;)

Witcher!!! :P
