Mario Golf: World Tour announced for 3DS

Nintendo bringing sixth Mario Golf game to 3DS this summer.

Nintendo has announced a new Mario Golf for the 3DS, Mario Golf: World Tour.

The game will be developed by longtime series stewards Camelot and promises to offer modes that both simplify the series for beginners and add complexity for experts. Nintendo will release the game for the 3DS this summer.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata unveiled the game as part of a Nintendo Direct announcement. Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, Wario, and Waluigi are all shown in screenshots as playable characters.

Other announcements during the Nintendo Direct presentation included Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, a new DLC campaign for New Super Mario Bros. U focusing squarely on Luigi called New Super Luigi U., the release date for Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and the unveiling of Donkey Kong Country Returns for the 3DS.

Mario Golf: World Tour will be the sixth Mario Golf game in a series that has been running since 1999, with previous titles appearing on the N64, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, and GameCube. The last entry in the series, Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, was released in 2003.

We need more Nintendo sports based games to have more stat tracking and online play.  I would like online golf tourneys and stats tracked for the life of the game.  I would even like to see league play.  Nintendo some adults like your goofy graphics and characters but want some body to the games and more reason to play them.  It would also be nice if AI got better.

if they can streamline golf for the average gamer while making it tough enough for golf pros, ill be happy.

And I was actually wondering the other day if I had enough golf games on my 3DS.....I knew I didn't!!!!

Seriously, hoping to get it in the first week.

Best golf games in videogames.

This is like back in the early Nintendo games where Mario was doing everything.  Golfing, reffing boxing fights, jumping over barrels etc.

Year of Luigi. Translation: Same games over and over again, only we'll put some spotlight on one of the lesser characters from those games in order to obscure the fact that it's the same old stuff over and over and over.

Am I the only one here that wants story based games and not Mario *insert random sport or party activity here* ?

Toadstool Tour is one of my favorite games of all time due to how much fun I've had playing it over the years. I can always pick it up and have a blast. I was worried about Mario Golf seeing as the Wii/DS didn't get one. I'm buying this day one.

FUCK YES! I've been waiting for a new Mario Golf game for years. TT became one of my favourite games of all times after I broke my arm and could only play one handed. Stoked on this news!

I think I'll finally consider actually getting a DS once this rolls around. Of course there's other games I've been interested in, but I've loved past Mario Golf games and I've wondered why they skipped the DS.

Well considering the DS never got a Mario Golf game, I might check this new 3DS one out. Really enjoy the GBA and GBC versions a lot.

@DeViLzzz  AGREEEE

I would definitely want to buy this if it had online tournaments/contests.

One reason I LOVED Forza on the 360 was because of the weekly online tournaments. It really adds value and competitive edge to the game

@gamebuyer22 Mario has been doing his thing for years and doesn't always do the same thing. What has Call of Duty did in the past few years? That said Mario's been golfing since the NES game called Golf

@Rotondi If it had online play track meets and stat tracking for all that goes on it would be awesome.

@debryson

Well considering that it's still made by Camelot, the same developer of Golden Sun and since both GBC and GBA titles included the RPG elements, I think this one will too. Handheld versions of Mario Golf somehow had a unique story to it simply because you don't play as Mario, the main character is usually an original character.

@debryson Yes, this!  The RPG aspects were so awesome.  They really need to bring that back.

@alenth Why make new IP's when you can just redo the same games over and over and rely on your fanbase to eat it all up?

hitman047m4

@thequickshooter Damned if they do, damned if they don't.... I do not think there will be another 3D Land for the 3DS. Not now at least (IMO), maybe later on when Nintendo is ready to shift to theirs next handheld.

Stonecutters908
Stonecutters908

@StaticPenguin @alenth You should offer your suggestion to Nintendo. Instead of putting their flag ship mascots on a golf game, they should use generic avatars like in that PS Vita golf game that did sold so well ;) We all know that generic avatars makes playing videogame golf SO much better.

Mario has shown his mug in AT LEAST 100 different games.  Some claim it's closer to 200, over a 32 year period.  How that compares to anything you've listed is just silly.  If you were to evenly divvy it up, even taking the extremely lowball figure of 100 different games over 32 years, that's roughly 3 cameos a year(if not starring).  It's gotten so beyond old for me.

2012 saw Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, Mario Party 6, Mario Tennis Open, New Super Mario Bros. 2, Paper Mario: Sticker Star, and New Super Mario Bros. U.  ENOUGH already.

Drkirk08

@jinzo9988 And Final Fantasy (especially 7) and maybe Kingdom Hearts interquels and remixes...

@Drkirk08 @jinzo9988 Are you twelve? Mario is over 25 years old. LOL! Look at the lineup Mario's name is on half or more of the game announcements. LMAO!

Stonecutters908
Stonecutters908

@StaticPenguin @Stonecutters908 @alenth Do you honestly believe that the infusion of the characters are the only reason people buy these games? Its the game design, which is without fail super polished. Getting to see familiar characters only makes the great gameplay fun to look at. People who have actually played Nintendo games regularly know this.

StaticPenguin
StaticPenguin

@Stonecutters908 @StaticPenguin @alenth When did I say anything about a golf game? I simply said they don't need to make a new IP when they can rely on fans to keep buying the same game over and over again. Nintendo loves prostituting out their mascots to fans like you because they know they got your money already.

@deathblow3 yet very few (or no one) make a big deal about it.

When (or if) company A, B and/or C do this type of things, it is quite acceptable among gamers (and sometimes media too), but as soon as Nintendo does it, then it is wrong.

Like I say before, this is a dangerous practice from Nintendo, but you have to think that if Mario makes them money, then the shareholders will keep asking for it and Nintendo will keep making those games... until Mario games stop selling according to their magic numbers.

There are tons of examples of games in Nintendo consoles that actually did not needed the Mario name in it (or its avatar); but probably they do this because out of fear that the game will not sell as well.

hitman047m4
hitman047m4

@jinzo9988no offense towards you but I think there is a difference between lets say Mario and Luigi games, from NSMB games, from Paper Mario, from Mario Sports, from Mario puzzlers, etc etc etc.... if you know what I mean.

Yes, the Mario brand/name has become a bit of a "in your face", since it is plastered in a lot of games, but this is (sadly and dangerous) a Nintendo strategy to sell games.... any other video game company will try to do at least the same if they have a recognizable character/mascot.

hitman047m4
hitman047m4

@deathblow3 I know, I was trying to be correct with my response, since the person I was replying to was talking about Mario names.

@hitman047m4 @painpas i counted 3 and one a dlc for a mario game where did you get mario vs donkey kong? i read it is a remake of the wii donkey kong country for the 3ds

hitman047m4
hitman047m4

@painpas :S "the lineup Mario's name is on half or more of the game announcements."... trying to hard to troll there son? There were only 4 games announce on this direct with the Mario name attached to it...

Mario Golf, Mario & Luigi, NSMBU DLC and Mario vs Donkey Kong

if you watched the entire video again you could see that there were a lot more announcements for other games.

Drkirk08
Drkirk08

@painpas @Drkirk08 @jinzo9988 Nope. Games like COD is barely half of Mario's "age" and look how many of them were made. Yet, it receives praises though it lacks innovation majority of the time. Don't worry, more NEW IP's will be coming from Japan for Nintendo. If people (especially in U.S) would try to support more of them unlike them not doing so in the past (and there were tons), then less complaints MIGHT occur.
