Mario is becoming quite the diva. The iconic plumber and his lanky brother are set to leap onto the DS in New Super Mario Bros., but they can't seem to settle on a release date. The game has been set to debut on May 7, May 15, and recently, May 21. Now, according to the game's Web site, New Super Mario Bros. is once again scheduled to hit stores on May 15.
Though it isn't uncommon in the industry for games to change release dates several times, usually in the form of delays, it is odd for a game to have a release date pushed back and then pulled back up again, particularly in such a short span of time.
Its erratic release date is causing many to think that the issue isn't with the game, but with a piece of hardware instead. The release of the DS Lite in North America is expected soon, and it is possible that Nintendo is planning to release New Super Mario Bros. alongside the DS Lite to spur sales, possibly bundling the game with the handheld.
New Super Mario Bros. is rated E for Everyone and will retail for $34.99. For more information on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
