The most recent beneficiary: Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez who today was announced as the cover star for EA Sports' MVP Baseball 2005, due out next spring.

What a huge turnaround it has been for the ManRam. It's easy to forget the tumultuous off-season the floppy-haired slugger experienced before the start of Boston's championship season. Just a year ago, all the talk around Manny had him going to Texas in exchange for then AL-MVP Alex Rodriguez. He even managed to raise the ire of Red Sox faithful after failing to show up for a crucial 2003 series against the Yankees, claiming illness, only to be spotted later by Boston media and fans hanging with good friend Enrique Wilson at the Yankee's hotel.

Of course, a World Series MVP award, the AL home run title, and, of course, the World Series trophy make for short memories with baseball fans.

What a difference a year makes.
