MAG to Move this fall

Zipper Interactive confirms 256-player online shooter will be updated with motion controller support; beta-test program mobilizes August 24.

Sony has already confirmed PlayStation Move support for some of the PlayStation 3's biggest past and future games, including SOCOM 4, Killzone 3, and Heavy Rain. As part of its Gamescom press conference today, the publisher added one more to that list, saying Zipper Interactive's 256-player first-person shooter MAG would be updated to support the camera-based motion-sensing controller this fall.

MAG's use of the PlayStation Move controller will presumably mimic that seen in Zipper's other shooter, SOCOM 4. Namely, players will be able to move their weapon reticle around the screen by pointing with the controller, while the device's subcontroller handles character movement. The studio noted that all of MAG's mechanics will be compatible with the Move controller.

MAG's loadout will soon be getting a bit more visceral.

Along with announcing Move support, Zipper also said that it would be opening up the MAG beta program on August 24. Available to all current owners of the online shooter, the beta program will let gamers play-test future deployments for the game. As an example of these advanced looks, Zipper said that it would be running the Clan Deploy team deployment feature, Credit Points in-game economy system, and Escalation game type by its beta participants before regular availability.

The PlayStation Move is expected to be available in North America on September 19. For more information, check out GameSpot's previous coverage of MAG.

This will be the real test of playstation move. If people will actually like to play "mature" action wargames like M.A.G or SOCOM over what Nintendo offers with their "kiddy" or casual games. If Sony can make a FPS actually workable and playable and fun to play using PS Move than Sony will "win" M.A.G might not be the best game to try to use PS move on. It would be better if Sony and It's third party game developers make a brand new FPS game directly for PS Move. Then just tacking PS Move function on to existing games. It make it seem like Sony is not really serious about supporting Move properley. tacking on motion controls after the fact doesn't create the best inpression. Plus M.A.G is not the best game to try this with. But we shall see if Sony's PS Move will be a hit with gamers or fail epic. They are going to cheapen M.A.G with this. How about at least pitting people using PS Move against people using regular playstation controller in M.A.G battles. Who would win. I would say that M.A.G players using trad controllers will win every time. PS Move contol scheme and M.A.G do not go together.

@monster637 I don't get the analogy. More responsive controls, more diverse gameplay, more content, less flashy and more substance = retarded/ugly? Since when?

I own mag ~ It sucks hard, its if battlefield bad company had a retarded ugly brother

@kvan33 I'm with you on that one. The Conduit on Wii was about as smooth as motion-controlled shooting gets, and it was still a pain in the butt to fire anywhere near people's faces. Unless I just sucked...

kvan33
kvan33

I'm sure gamers with Move will try to play Mag...that is until they get schooled by everyone using the standard PS3 controller. There's no way it'll be more responsive. I mean waving a hand or moving a joystick a fraction of an inch...it's not even a contest. Clearly this is just a move (no pun intended) on Sony's part to generate more interest in this crappy motion technology.

i have to be honest i think that playstation move is so FING crap.... i mean they canceled the heavy rain DLC,S completely! i was looking forward to them so much but sony didnt even give a f ak about them who was waiting for them. and even so who would even buy the move? im not going to play heavy rain completely from the start! so if i have to give playstation move a grade from 1-10 i would say.........................................IT WOULD BE BELOW EVERY CRAPPY THING THAT HAVE EVER EXISTED!!!!!!!!!!!

For the move I think we need some more light gun games like House of the Dead 4 or the newest Rambo arcade game. Terminator Salvation Arcade could also work but I didn't like that one too much.

That's cool but MAG was still a boring game and I think just adding motion controls isn't gonna save it. The only special about it is the massive amount of people that can play online at one time.

at least Sony has tried to appease both casual and hardcore gamers unlike nintendo.

The thought of 256 people waving their "magic wand" is interesting. It's a good move (excuse the pun) to try and incorporate the Move into the game. Gives a reason for the hardcore shooter types to think about buying it. I'm still waiting to see what Microsoft will do to get their brethren to jump totally on board. The 360 is the shooter's haven, so they're going to figure out a way to appease the people who made them what they are today.

Hey Zipper, stop wasting time with Move and make a SOCOM that isn't full of gimmicks and features from other games. SOCOM is SOCOM, if people don't like it by the 5th installation they won't care how much you try to make it like COD. Quit screwing over your fanbase!

i guess that will make it even easier to kill those move controller gamers. good luck with that. i am happy that they keep improving MAG so its a better game all around.

hmmm, i wonder if the Move controller will be inferior to the regular ps3 controller.

Well at least it is a game that appels to the "hardcore" with move support although I wonder how many people will play it with move/ will buy especial. Meh, looks cool but not going to get me to buy it.

@prans4u2000 and @amari24 I agree with both I buy very few shooters on the ps3 but I buy all my fighting games on it but I buy all my shooters on the 360. Hopefully MOVE will balance that out for me.

amari24
amari24

@prans4u2000 I defintely agree with you, the 360 controller is better when it comes to shooters. I just hate using it in fighting games though, it's a nightmare.

prans4u2000
prans4u2000

i own both, ps3 and xbox 360...................... i hav to admit that shooters play a bit better on the 360 due to a comfortable controller with concave topped sticks...............

Damn, this got me excited. I thought by "move" it meant to the 360. I don't like playing shooters on PS3.

Cool! At least there will be something to play with the Move if I get it when it's new. MAG wasn't the greatest, but at least they seem to be gradually improving it. I need to get back on there and see how different it is now. I haven't played in forever, maybe there won't be so many stupid people who absolutely refuse to use a headset even though it is a pretty integral part of the game. :?

They also need to come up with some new maps and game modes.

Well for all the jealous haters I'm sorry to inform you that I own both the Wii and the move and I can tell you that the move controls better than the wii plus. It is a fact as I have palyed the move games and I'm having more fun with it then I did with the wii. My own kids have lost interst in the Wii and have moved on to the Move. You guys will see for yourself when it's released.. The Wii WAS fun but now it's DONE...

man you wanna-be gamers are so two dimensional...my favorite line I read was "im not into MAG, Im gonna go buy COD black ops! IM SO EXCITED PL0X!!!" posers...only reason you hate MAG is because its challenging...grow a pair! ;)

no tplanning to get this. My list of things to get this year and holiday season is set. COD black ops, castlevania, and NFS hot pursuit, as for next year mgs rising and crysis 2. So my budget is set and i can't buy much else since a lot of these have collectors edition. But we'll see how this goes

Mag to fail again, this Fall.

stakex007

I didn't find MAG to be a terrible game (though not a great game either), but I just don't see Move or any other motion controllers for that matter, being practicle in a compedative shooter. They are just far too limited IMO.

I like how Move has a line of titles that are already released and more coming it makes me feel assured that if I do fork out the money for this, it won't be a lot of repetitive sports games on the Wii.

This isn't going to be like those New Play Control "improvements" that the Wii had with old (GC) games, right? Because I don't feel like having controls that worked being replaced with simple, almost generic movements in an attempt to freshen it up. It's at least optional, but if I'm going to use motion controls, it's going to be in games that were actually designed from the beginning to utilize them.

XturnalS
XturnalS

Out of all the big MP shooters that came out this year and last holiday it seems like MAG will have the most replay ability the way they keep support via updates and patches. Must say that I think I will pick up a copy very soon and see what the final product is like from the beta which I put tons of hours into (one of the reasons I didn't pick up the final product).

MrHanky35

I was not planning on buying any of the motion controls (for ether system) but IF this works with MAG, ill shell out whatever thay ask 4 :P

I enjoyed MAG a whole lot and this will be quite interesting.... I remember one time i had this guy complaining that this was unfair because people weren't dieing in 2 hits.. and he was confused about Armor... We all laughed
