An image of a Best Buy pre-order card with the supposed release date was sent to IGN today. The pre-order card advertises the game will be available on April 26. GameStop and Amazon both list the same release date for Mafia III.

2K's parent company Take Two Interactive has said that Mafia III will be releasing this year during its fiscal 2017, which starts on April 1, 2016.

2K provided us with this comment:

"Mafia III will release in calendar 2016 during Take-Two Interactive’s fiscal year 2017. No official release date has been announced at this time. It is common practice for retailers to list placeholder dates before an official release date has been announced due to the requirements of their operating systems."

Mafia III is set in New Orleans during the '60s. You play the role of Lincoln Clay, a black Vietnam War veteran who was orphaned from birth. Mafia III hopes to tackle the racism and prejudice that was present in that era. You can hear what GameSpot thinks of Mafia III, and see some gameplay, in our preview video here.
