Madden NFL 11: Vote for the Cover

EA Sports is letting fans decide the cover athlete of Madden NFL 11, but there's only one correct choice.

In the past few years, the decision on who would end up on the cover of Madden has become an increasing spectacle. For Madden 08, Tennessee's quarterback Vince Young made the cover, only after rumors that San Diego Chargers running back LaDanian Tomlinson had turned down an offer to appear. For Madden NFL 09, it was former Packers great Brett Favre on the cover in his Green Bay uniform; never mind that Brett actually played the season in New York Jets green and white. For Madden 10, two players were featured on the cover for the first time, Pittsburgh's Troy Polamalu and Arizona's Larry Fitzgerald, an announcement that was unveiled in New York City's Times Square.

This year, things are changing once again, with fans getting the chance to vote for the cover of Madden NFL 11 in an EA Sports marketing tie-in with Doritos. Of course, fans can't go willy-nilly and just start a write-in campaign for Luke McCown; instead, EA has whittled down the list to three finalists (all of whom EA has likely come to tentative licensing agreements with beforehand): New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne, and Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen.

Do the right thing.

You do realize there's exactly one correct answer here, right? Jared Allen is the only logical choice for four essential reasons:

1. He'd be the first defensive end on the cover of an English-language version of Madden.
2. 51 tackles, 14.5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 1 interception. Not a bad year.
3. He wears the number 69. On purpose.
4. His flowing mullet and flavor-saver beard absolutely demand to be immortalized for all eternity on the cover of a video game. Why not let that game be Madden 11?

So, you know, vote for whomever you want. Just know that a vote for Jared Allen is a vote for manhood.

they could have done another double feature, chris johnson and jared allen, what about Andre Johnson????

Some people have asked why Chris Johnson is not a choice. Marketing is the likely answer. Tennessee isn't the biggest market and, face it, Johnson's look is extreme. Sure, he could have a mouthguard covering those gold teeth, but then there would be questions of EA trying to hide his cultural adornment. The extremists at either end of the political spectrum would find something to hate about the pick. It stinks, but between the Tea Party racists and the PC police on the other end, talent and numbers won't get you on the cover of a EA's key product. And vote for Jared Allen. He plays dirty, so if someone has to get hurt it might as well be the least undeserving of the three.

i think jared allen would be a good pick on the cover of madden 11 but then chris johnson did put up some pretty good numbers too so he would also be a good candidate

Ben Rothlisburger! Only if he is found guilty though. They need to appeal to the "criminal" crowd.

Reggie Wayne? Really? Gotta give it to Breez between the 3 of em, would be cool if you could pick from ANY player.....EA = nazis ;]

I agree Chris Johnson should have been in the question, I say Drew Brees will make the cover. A DE even though its Jared Allen, doesnt seem marketable enough. Reggie Wayne would be cool, but Chris Johnson had the best individual year of any player in the NFL this year. 2,000 yards! Give Him The Cover!! Go Eagles!

ok u know that the colts have a better team, like common most of their players have lots of exp. those same players have won about 3 superbowls and none of those years were they put on the cover stil drew brees would be a good one on there; so i say that drew brees with manning

Why not put Drew Brees and Peyton Manning on the cover like they did with last years Troy Polomalu/Larry Fitzgerald cover?

Umm... my favorite team is one of those losers in the AFC south, so I would like Reggie Wayne to be on the cover, and you know, get the Madden Curse. Granted, that won't stop Peyton Manning, but it can at least slow him down.

R u people mad?!?!?! Puttin Brees on the cover is like prayin for him to get hit by a car.

Not 2 Mention He's The Superbowl MVP.... O, Did I Mention He Whooped All 1st Ballod Hall Of Fame QuarterBacks..... Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady & Kurt warner. ......................CHOOSE WISELY PEOPLE!!!...............

anyone with common sense would put peyton manning on the cover. not only is he the best player in the league, but he has been for years. And yet still no cover appearance? c'mon people. use your noggins

Yeah I don't see any way Brees doesn't run away with this after that SB performance. Still, would be nice to have Allen on there.

This is what makes me mad...Recognize defensive players like DE?...If we recognize Defensive players it should be Revis..(best Corner in the league)..I mean if you want a DE make Elvis Dumervil, who played both OLB and DE oh and he had 17 SACKS!, and only 1 less forced fumble. Dont get me wrong Allen is good but hes not the ELITE at his position...So say NO to Jared Allen and say YES to players like Chris Johnson, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Revis, Wayne, Dumervil, ect.

maverick_76

I would like that, but the cover needs to have him in a shot with his helmet off, so we can see his beard and mullet in all it's glory.

I think the 2k series should just be the new title for madden and they should come out with a new disk every 3 years and just make it a roster update and gameply update on the market place. Screw buying a new disc every year man!!! The game looks great and plays great now.... Just bring out up dates until you have a major game change on the series......... I mean they already bought out the 2k license so just use the 2k name cause madden is gone and just make it updates. IS that a good idea guys??? Should we boy cot?? Until this is done?? ............... haha, I am sure when the new madden comes out I will be there at midnight picking it up haha. But I think it would be awesome if they just did roster up dates for more than a year and gameplay up dates and add ons as well .... WE could get a lot more use out of one disc than the 4 I have laying on my game self right now.

how about chris collinsworth? maybe the madden curse will like go in reverse or something and give him some life in his voice.

Peyton Manning... Weather you like him or not he's the best player in the game! OR Chris Johnson since the like to use players who had the hottest year 2,006 YDS

I vote that they change their biz plan and dont realease the game in retail, but as a roster and what not update down load, then put out a game every other year, thus improving the quality of the game, and rducing the over charged price every year, with all the DLC the game cost about $100 a year - NOT WORTH IT!, I say they change the plan, go against the grain, and make more money by changing the way they do business, as well as giving us, the fans, a better product.

psy_coma77

Im not a Madden or a sports fan in general but I think they should put a picture of the Detroit Lions (the whole team) on the cover. Perhaps doing that will counteract the "Madden curse" and the Lions will win the Superbowl! lol.

I like how a bunch of little B*%^&es are hating on Jared Allen and the Vikings. Get over it, he was by far one of the best defensive players of the year on one of the best teams in the league!

Incredible_Bulk
Incredible_Bulk

@MFazio23 Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I think you need to lay off the guy a little. So what if he dances around and has fun on the sidelines, isn't that the point of football? To have fun? Also, at least they picked guys you don't hear about on the news for doing something idiotic or dangerous like drunk driving. Rey Mualuaga (sp?); Dante Stallworth, Plaxico Burress; Cedric Benson a couple years ago, (why couldn't he have done that $#!* when he was a Bear!?!??!) just to name a few. So yes he does act and look like a fool, but you would be hard pressed to find another Defensive End in the league that has a better motor or produces like this guy does every game for the Vikes. And I hate the vikings since I am a Bear fan, by the way. Having said all that I am voting for Drew Brees, no slight to Peyton, but he should have gotten the MVP this year, dude was on fire.

demetrius---

if we all had a choice i would choose DeSean Jackson case he is a good WR and like almost every game he plays he gets better and better (my opinion)

5. Because then the Madden Curse would strike him down somewhere between games 1 and 3 and the stupid Vikings would be without stupid Jared Allen. Take that Gamespot.

Chris johnson would have been a good pick too...... But I am a bengal fan I can only dream of a Bengal on the cover........... Ill just have to make my own madden cover with ochocinco on it and slip over who ever makes it this year. haha

My vote is going to Jared Allen. First of all he is a beast. and secondly, we all know Brees and Wayne are awsom. Be different and recognize DE are just as important as those other more glamorous postions(QB,WR). This is a true player with personality to boot.
