Madden 07 soundtrack announced

EA's annual football game will feature the rockin', hip-hoppin' music of Audioslave, Dashboard Confessional, Wolfmother, Dynamite MC.

by

Just about any aspiring band would kill its bass player to get heard by 6 million people in the US. For up-and-coming musicians, bands on the verge of stardom, and groups looking to expand their fan base, there's one surefire way to get into the eardrums of the prized 18- to 34-year-old demographic. Get on the famed Madden soundtrack.

This year's soundtrack follows last year's formula, leaning heavily toward up-tempo rock, with some hip-hop thrown in for good measure. Among the bigger names on the list are Audioslave ("Revelations"), Dashboard Confessional ("Reason to Believe"), and Taking Back Sunday ("Spin").

EA soundtrack vet Bishop LaMont makes an appearance with Chevy Jones on "The Best," and Dynamite MC, known for his work with Roni Size's Reprazent crew and The Nextmen, contributes his UK rhyming skills with "Bounce."

Among the new sounds on the list are postpunk rockers The Rapture and the arena-rock revival of Australian trio Wolfmother. Returning to remix some of the classic NFL Films music is Da Riffs.

The Madden games from Electronic Arts routinely top the best-selling games lists each year, pinning armchair quarterbacks to their La-Z-Boys before, during, and after the NFL season. Over the last two years, the '05 and '06 editions of the game have averaged more than 6 million units sold, with last year's being the first under EA's exclusive deal with the NFL.

Madden NFL 07 will be released this August on the PlayStation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, Game Boy Advance, GameCube, PlayStation Portable, and PC. The game is also being developed for the PlayStation 3 and Wii.

First of all, I'm very pleased and happy with the list. I listen to a lot of the bands on there, 30 Seconds to Mars, Taking Back Sunday, Underoath, Sparta, Matchbook Romance, etc. But everyone stop complaining, seriously. If it bothers you that much then just listen to the music YOU want to listen to whether it's on your hard drive, or you stream it from your computer, or plug in your iPod. Just stop complaining cuz you all know that you don't HAVE to listen to the music that's on the list

Stop complaining about the soundtrack. There are more good bands than there are on most games. If you can find 10 bands on there that you like then that's at least 4 more than you'll find in most games.

Unimpressed by this lineup...if you want good sports tracks see Chamillionaire Slim Thug Bishop Lamont and Lil Jon...only 1 of those is on the list

wtf this soundtrack is so imbalanced. I like both rock and rap but there is too much rock. Either go all rock, all rap or balance it out.

Sorry but the soundtrack listing leaves me unimpressed.

they've got their good helping of Emo in this with Dashboard and Taking Back Sunday. And I guess they added Atreyu since they werent in MVP 06 NCAA Baseball, which had all the Victory Records bands. But Im wondering why they kept Hawthorne Heights out of this? And why they didnt add "Miss Murder" from AFI, and "Honestly" from Cartel? Most of these bands listed I listent to and are good.

hmmm, all the debate about EA trax and such.........when will EA (and game industry as a whole) just go back to little tunes made strickly for the game. That should at the very list do away with the rock vs rap debate. It just seems like promoting these artists in this way seems to always spark something negative from all the EA haters already out there ever since the untimely demise of the 2ksports brand of football :|

While I do agree that there's no way in hell 75% of this is suitable for football music [which is better suited as metal and rap], it doesn't really matter at the end of the day. Think about it. When you're playing the game itself, only about 5 seconds of the song plays in between plays. But, if you're like me, and go deep into Fantasy Drafts and mini-games, you'll hear this music... a lot. It turned me into a Chamilitary , Ozomatli, and Slim Thug fan. Then again, Madden does seem to be the launching pad for a lot of talent into the mainstream [see Green Day, Yellowcard, Avenged Sevenfold, Chamilionaire, Slim Thug, Spider Loc, etc.], so I do understand how track selectors are trying to help these musicians out. Looking at this list, not too many have become a household name yet. Custom soundtracks it is.

wedhed2000

Oh and by the way, rap is music. You cannot honestly say that DMX is not music, Akon is not music, Bone Thugs N Harmony is not music, 2Pac is not music, Notorious B.I.G. is not music, NWA, Snoop, Run Dmc, Public Enemy, not to mention my dirty south boys, T.I., Ludacris, OutKast, Lil Wayne, Juvenile, Pharrell, Kanye West, Twista, and last but definitely not least, the king of rap in my opinion right now Jay-Z. If rap is not music and a part of football, then why did Nelly, Diddy, and so many other rappers perform at the Super Bowl and other important NFL events? Check your facts before you try to strike the hip-hop culture again buddy and rock on dude.

wedhed2000
wedhed2000

We need a lot more hip-hop tracks on here because I hate to say it and trust me I never try to bring race into the comments, but a lot of African Americans that play Madden have never heard of any of these musicians. I know Lupe Fiasco, but his style is not my favorite. I also know Chevy Jones because she is on the NBA Live 2006 soundtrack. Before Slim Thug and Chamillionare exploded on the hip-hop scene, not many people knew them unless they listened to underground tracks by them. I also agree that rap is not what it once was and it does get out of hands at times, but we still have Ice Cube, Akon, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Rick Ross, T.I., DMX, and so many others getting rap back to where it once was. All I want is the game to have balance in every aspect.

xx_patRIOT_xx
xx_patRIOT_xx

O SO EMO. why don't we just drape the whole game with black, and have all the football players hug and smoke a cig or two? i REALLY love feeling moody when i play a football game... ~_~ now we know why there's custom soundtracks.

gitaruman

This is one of the best soundtracks on a madden game yet. I like most of the bands that I recognize on there, and hopefully, as with the past games, I'll end up liking the ones I dont' recognize.

ronjonss04
ronjonss04

actually screw custom soundtrack this soundtracks pretty killer saves the day, riverboat gamblers, pink spiders, sparda, wolfmother...the other bands probably ain't half bad.

ronjonss04

Dark_Raven21
Dark_Raven21

You people who keep saying "rap has nothing to do with football" "rap is crap" and all that other **** . What do you think people think of your stupid music. And I will say this You people need to get a life complaining because man there is not enough rap man this soundtrack sucks just shut up seriously. If you dont like it no need to bash it. Idiots -.-

Unassigned
Unassigned

Like the media has been saying for the past 6 months, RAP really is dieing down to a much smaller audience. It seems the game industry is seeing most soundtracks moving away from that "style" as well.

igotserv3d
igotserv3d

why the **** would I want to listen to Dashboard Confessional or Keane on a football game? football isn't for emo ***s EA is ****ing retarded, fortunately they're losing money, and losing employees. hopefully they're bankrupt by the time NFL 2k10 is released

Nintendo_Man
Nintendo_Man

A list of rejects most people haven't heard of or wouldn't buy their stuff. You would think a company their size would put some big acts on their games. Rock is dead, people want to listen to pop, hip-hop, rap, dance and R&B, songs that actually sell.

Mit_Man
Mit_Man

Whoah. Anyone else see Alex Navarro's comment on the first page? That's pretty cool. And I think th emassive amount of hip hop heads that play Madden are going to be extremely disappointed with this soundtrack.
