Mad Tracks makes dash for XBLA

Online racer from Load Inc. ready to let rip Microsoft's downloadable game service tomorrow morning.

The toy-vehicles-with-weapons genre is a specific but well-explored one, with the original Micro Machines game paving the way for the likes of Toy Commander and Twisted Metal: Small Brawl. Now the genre is headed for the Xbox 360, as Microsoft today announced that Load Inc.'s Mad Tracks will arrive on the Xbox Live Arcade tomorrow.

Inspired by "pull back and go" toy cars, Mad Tracks debuted as a downloadable PC racing game last year. The Live Arcade version will include a dozen cars, a dozen power-ups, six races, nine minigames, and four-player split-screen or online play. New races and minigames will be added to the game through a pair of expansions packs set to sell for 350 Microsoft points ($4.37).

Published by D3 Publisher of America, Mad Tracks will sell for 800 Microsoft points ($10) and should be available Wednesday starting at 2 a.m. Pacific. The game has been rated E for Everyone.

i was thinking the same thing about Aegis Wing Headhunter01.

I thought the demo sucked big time. Definitely not worth 800 pts. I would take it for free though. Aegis Wing is free and it is way more fun.

Played it and it controls well but maybe it should have been more around 400MS points, esp. if they are going to charge 350MS points for the expansion packs.

I just downloaded and bought the game. It has a good feel to it from my limited experience. On paper, it's a MUCH better value than Calling All Cars which I already stopped playing. More maps, more cars, more power-ups and more modes for the same price.

Man, Bronson2k3 did you make your sig pic ourself? You must have the whole first 4th episode of Star Wars pixelized in it. With little to none of the important stuff cut. So is it an animated GIF? Bitmap or no?

I've been curious about this one since I saw the ad for it on the back of the instruction manual for Earth Defense Force. Hope its good, looks like it could be a lot of fun in split screen with some friends.

10 bucks is a lot. There had better be a good amount of content in there to justify the price.

Isn`t D3 Publisher the same company that made WTF: Work Time Fun for the PSP?

I'm kinda interested in this game. I just listened to the Gamerscore Blog podcast today at work and the guy (Chris?) was interviewing a few gamers at a GBR Tour event. A majority of them got their hands on the game there and said they were looking forward to it coming to the XBLA. I'll definitely be checking out the trial.

Actually MS expanded the XBLA size limit from 50mb to 256mb. Plus the game is being Published by D3 Publisher of America so blame them for the price point not MS. Only the Publisher have price point control over the content that put up on the Marketplace i.e. Gears Of War which is publish by MS.

What a rip off, so the game actually cost over $15 altogether? WTF ... I'd rather just buy a cheap Xbox 1 game that cost like 5 bucks.

Looks kinda like Gripshift on the PSN store. Might download the demo but probably won't buy it. Where is Castle Crashers Microsoft/Behemoth? That game looked awesome I want that!

who cares, XBLA has some awesome games, this will mostly go unnoticed.

350 points for each addon...this is likely why i don't buy very many XBLA games. Thats 1500 points right there for one game.

looks alright - but that a lot for a game that looks alright and just alright. The expansion stuff is getting out of hand for arcade games.

caesarbites

Sitting_ The 50 MB limit has already been broken by Castlevania: SOTN. It weighed in over 50 MB when it first came out on XBL Arcade. Microsoft said the 50 MB limit is no longer written in stone.

TeeKmaster
TeeKmaster

make the add ons free then.. sorry but they are then using that 50 meg rule as an excuse to get more money out of us.. why cant they ask microsoft to go over 50 meg like castlevania. and i thought they upped the limit anyway, if i remember..

Sitting_dux0r
Sitting_dux0r

the only reason the added stuff is not bundled with the game from the start is because it would take the games size over 50mb, which is against microsofts XBLA rules or something.

It looks neat, but I'm not that excited about it.

I can confidently say that even today RC Pro Am dominates the toy-vehicles-with-weapons genre. Perhaps this game will change my mind.
