Mad Max out for next-gen consoles in 2014

Open-world, third-person action game based on film is developed by creators of Just Cause series; slated for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

by

Publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced that it will release a game based on the Mad Max film franchise for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The postapocalyptic world setting will never go out of style.

The game, called Mad Max, will be an open-world, third-person action game set in a postapocalyptic world. The title's focus is on car combat; players will need to fight against enemies of the wasteland to eventually build up their vehicles for combat.

Mad Max is being developed by Avalanche Studios, the team behind the Just Cause open-world action game series. While the news of the Mad Max game was first announced at Sony's E3 2013 press conference recently, Warner Bros. confirmed later that the game is a multiplatform title.

Since Avalanche's at it, I think it's safe to say it's gonna be epic and overall good. Can't wait.

The idea of Just Cause devs working on a game that keeps you planted firmly on the ground fills me with a little dread...but we'll see...

A lot of 'about times' here:

About time we had a Sandbox in Australia, about time we had an apocalyptic game all about the cars, and about time we had another game from Avalanche! Though I hope it feels a bit more Mad Max than this trailer did... Dunno if I could ever imagine Max doing something like that.

I love Mad Max, but my first reaction to seeing this was "Oh, great another movie game! It's gonna suck!" But, if it's Avalanche Studios, it might actually be good.

I really hope they're not fooling us and that this is actually a tie-in to the new mad max movie coming out next year...

Seems interesting. I hope it turns out to be as enjoyable as the movies.

I have a question, is this the first time the franchise calls itself as Mad Max in North America? I remeber the old ones with Mel Gibson in them were called Road Warrior.

Looking forward to this game as well as George Miller's fourth installment of the Mad Max movies....Fury Road with Tom Hardy as Max should be pretty entertaining. If this movie was being made by anyone else (Michael Bay, cough cough) I would not be seeing it.

Not too keen about car combat, but open-world third-person action game sounds good. I also like Avalanche Studios, not only because they're my countrymen.

I initially thought the silhouette was Ken from Fist of the North Star. Lo and behold, we get Mad Max (where FotNS is based from).

It was so unexpected, first thing I thought of when I saw the trailer is: "This feels like Mad Max", "There wouldn't be a game for it thought, right?  Most gamers are too young to remember it!"  I was pleasantly surprised.

There has been too much violence. Too much pain. But I have an honorable compromise. Just walk away. Give me your pump, the oil, the gasoline, and the whole compound

It is funny for because during the Watchdogs trailer at the Sony Conference I was thinking gee that black car looks a bit like Mad Max's car.. Then shortly after Watchdogs was over a trailer appears where I was thinking 'That is definitely Mad Max's car' which to my surprise was a Mad Max game. Mad Max 1 still the best of the movies.

@X-Robert The first one in America was titled Mad Max. The second one was Road Warrior, and the third was Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome

@X-RobertI think Beyond Thunderdome had the Mad Max name in its title within the US.

@SIDEFX1 I wonder if they'll take this game Beyond Blunderdome, i.e. not mess it up, but take it beyond tired features and half-assed gameplay.

@Ripper_TV If they include the Gyrocopter that would be hilarious, but its still no grappling hook...
