Mad Max 4 game in the works at Avalanche?

Just Cause developer confirms it is collaborating with Cory Barlog--the former God of War producer adapting the next Road Warrior sequel.

Source: See below.

What we heard: After years of languishing in development limbo, Mad Max 4: Fury Road began preproduction in late 2009. In a video segment from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (via Comingsoonet.net), producer-director George Miller talked about how it would take a year just to build the cars used in the sequel.

Mad Max fans are growing impatient over the fourth film's delays.

Since 2008, God of War II producer Cory Barlog has been linked to the game adaptation of Fury Road, a fact he reconfirmed yesterday with two tweets. "I need a rockstar lead level girl or guy who is up for the challenge of making an amazing AAA Mad Max game," read the first, followed by, "A heads up to all level designers, more specifically lead level designers. Want make a Mad Max game with me?"

The two aforementioned posts were wedged between tweets about Barlog's visit to Stockholm, Sweden, site of Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios. The fact that Avalanche founder Christofer Sundberg retwittered several of Barlog's posts about Mad Max 4 was not lost on Giant Bomb. The gaming blog then connected the dots between the Barlog-Avalanche link and a May report saying that the studio is working on "a major Hollywood license" to be developed "alongside an upcoming 2012 movie." The often-delayed Mad Max 4 had a 2012 release, but--as Barlog twittered and Sundberg retwittered--it has since been delayed.

The official story: Inquiries sent to Barlog and Avalanche had not been returned as of press time. However, Sundberg did tell Eurogamer the following: "I can't comment on the projects we are working on, but Cory is working here with us in Stockholm as you have probably read on his Twitter recently." Bogus or not bogus?: Looking not bogus.

@ godzillavskong Actualy, Fallout were; the game were explicitly inspired by Mad Max movies, I can't remember where did I see that right now, but you can see these screenshots and get some proof: Fallout dog, know as Dogmeat: http://futuro.vc/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/fallout3.jpg Mad Max dog, same race as Dogmeat (Australian Cattle Dog); also, look at the "leather armor" Mad Max are wearing; it looks a lot like leather armor from Fallout series (as with his Sawn-off shotgun): http://numbcranium.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/mad-max-and-dog.jpg You can see some references with the movie here too: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Dogmeat_%28Fallout_3%29

hey this is just me but if they are going to make a game like mad max it is going to hjave to be an RPG or an open world concept if it is going to be great.

The team behind it sounds like it could be a hit. Just Cause 2, while maybe not the funnest game out, was still pretty impressive, as far as scope, and graphics. I actually always think of Mad Max when I play Borderlands, or Fallout. I wonder if those games were inspired by those movies?

If done right it would be an awesome game.

I think Russel Crowe would be alright as a slightly older Max. Mel Gibson is just to old now to play the part.

This is good news, a Road Warrior game could be epic.

What, seriously a new movie? Oh that is sick, I love the Mad Max series.

I'm all for the movie, but as a game couldn't we just play RAGE. I mean they will problably come out about the same time anyway.

Hopefully this game will be good. I wasn't even aware there was going to be a Mad Max 4. That's pretty cool, but Mel Gibson is getting old and even more unpopular every day with this outrageous outburst. I don't even know if I want to see a movie with him in it anymore.

If they made it like Twisted Metal combined with Gears of War, it would be awesome... but they won't...

Crossing Mad Max with a Cooking Mama type game is what he said last time.... something fresh, something exciting. That combination sounds weird, but even Mad Max has got to eat, and with all the new motion controls out and coming you could make some really interesting dishes and quench your desire for break neck action at the same time. He didn't mention it here, but he talked about it recently and he wasn't playing around.

I only saw one of the Mad Max films, the second I think(when he's in a car being chased and he presses a turbo button =/) but I'd like it if Mel Gibson did another film and a game would be cool even though I'm starting to get bored with all the 'post apocalyptic' settings in games, it's starting to get like games based on WWII(nothing really new and 'fresh').

No doubt the movie will at least be decent (As far as I can tell, Miller's still got it in him), but I'm not so sure about a game...

@Mickleohb Mad Max is crap. When people say "Mad Max" they really mean The Road Warrior.

Mad Max will probably throw down with a pack of you-know-what in the sequel.

A year and 6 months may not be enough time to put out a AAA Mad Max game??? Maybe if the movie is released at the very end of 2012 will the dev team have enough time to put out a decent game, which is little over 2 years.

Honestly, I would love to see Sam Worthington cast as a new Mad Max, with a cameo of some kind by Gibson. If it's Paul Walker, than I assure you I am out

It could be one of those games that gets everyone slinging crap at it and surprises us, it could also be a big fat bomb, IDK, it's too early to say.... Who knows they could end up making a game that you'd be proud to take home to your parents...... I could see it now.....Son, are you sure you can support this game? yeah dad, I love it, I love it so much.....

@Alex_09 But Mad Max was around 25+ years before fallout existed, So its the other way around...

No Gibson, No buy. This game better not have any foreign bodies in it.

If it's Avalanche, I expect it to be good. Maybe not great, but it shouldn't be bad. They've got an impressive engine and some good employees...they just don't give a damn about their customers once the game is released.

I was on the Just Cause 2 forums for months. Not many people were happy with Avalanche after a while...terrible patch that barely fixed anything, took no suggestions from the community, just pumped out DLC that was made before release then said "WELL, THAT'S ALL! GOOD LUCK WITH OUR BUGGY GAME"

As much as I love some of their games, I dislike their community handling...

I watched the first Mad Max for the first time last year and I really wasn't impressed. I want to watch the other 2 movies in case they're better but I haven't gotten around to it...

A crappy 4 hour movie tie-in that imitates all of the great aspects of fallout badly!? Count me in!
