When Mad Catz originally announced its line of Street Fighter IV peripherals headlined by a Tournament Edition FightStick using actual arcade parts, there was some question about how big the market for a $150 joystick really was. The answer is "bigger than Mad Catz first thought," as the first shipment of sticks and $40 FightPads for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 quickly sold out.

The peripheral maker is following up on that initial success with a Round 2 line of Street Fighter IV accessories, featuring six new FightPads with character-specific artwork and another version of the Tournament Edition FightStick. The six world warriors receiving the FightPad treatment this time around are M. Bison, Sagat, Guile, Zangief, C. Viper, and Cammy. It appears the Special Edition FightStick, an $80 alternative joystick with imitation parts inside, will not make a return in the Round 2 line.

Mad Catz has been going FightStick crazy of late, having released limited quantities of the Tournament Edition with new art and color combinations for the San Diego Comic-Con and Penny Arcade Expo. The company also has a $160 Marvel vs. Capcom 2-themed FightStick set for release exclusively at GameStop (and Capcom and Mad Catz' online stores) later this year.

NewEgg is selling the Round 2 for 129.99. Amazon is selling Round 1's for 129.99 and Round 2 for 149.99. Hmmm sounds like new egg has something good going. The Se's are 3 months away so pick up your round 2 cheap now.

The standard X360 and PS3 pads are as USELESS for fighting games as they are for driving games. It's as simple as that. You will never have that extra level of control or enjoyment out of sticking with the standard controller. This stick is the McLaren F1 of Ardade Sticks and is as good as it gets!

I'm perfectly happy using my (overpriced) PS2 Ken pad on my PS3. $4 for an adaptor beats $40 for a new pad that really only works with SF.

Don't buy this crap. Go to my profile and read my blog about how Madcatz is singlehandedly ruining SFIV with its substandard garbage. I've bought 3, that's THREE, of these fightpads. All THREE have been repaired and all THREE continue to FAIL.

I have to wonder (hope)... is this in any way connected to the rumours of the SFIV 'dash' update? For those who don't know, the talk is of a return from DJ and T-Hawk, plus IIRC Makoto, Ibuki, Dudley, Adon, Guy and Cody and 2 newcomers. All strictly unconfirmed however. The MadCatz TE stick is a wonderful device (I have one) marred by a bit of pot luck in the construction. One of the wires in mine was positioned in such a way that it 'kinked' and became unreliable, but after Saitek (who do tech support for them) fixed it the first time I learned to do it myself. It's a joy to have such an easily moddable and maintainable piece of kit.

I should seriously think about getting one. I'd love my first stick to be a quality one :D

wasn;t one of these fight stick things like 200 bucks at gamestop or something. I don't play fighting games but i still think its too much.

Four things: 1) I was definitely one of those people who spent more than they should have for an SFIV FightPad 360 on Ebay; 2) I'm not that worried about spending too much because I made the money back (and then some) by hosing some poor chap on Ebay much like I got hosed; 3) I cannot begin to tell you how vastly superior the D-Pad is on the MadCatz design versus the default 360 controller, and; 4) I originally thought that the wired 360 version wouldn't bother me too much... boy was I wrong... the size of my living room is mostly to blame here though.

@ cajunstrike: Wireless arcade sticks are a horrible idea. Wireless controllers have a small amount of input delay (around 2 frames). Since the point of getting an arcade stick in the first place is better control, wireless ones are self-defeating in their purpose. For proof, just play RB2 with a wireless instrument and a wired one, and you'll notice that you have to hit notes slightly early with the wireless one. While it's true that Madcatz has created some inferior products in the past, the TE sticks are the exception to the rule. Arcade quality housing, joystick, and buttons make the TE the best stick you can buy short of a custom. I'd be willing to bet that almost every single one of the people who commented that they aren't good sticks either 1) hasn't used one or 2) doesn't play fighters seriously enough to know the difference between a good or bad stick. The Round 2 TE sticks look great, and I'll definitely be picking one up.

I want one of these even though I don't play SF4 anymore. Unfortunately with some many games to get this holiday season, I doubt my budget will allow me to get one.

I hope they at least price the new TE stick in line with the new Hori sticks that will be out next month for only $120. It has all Sanwa parts like the TE stick. The only difference between the two is button layout.

Dudes this is just wroooong! One can buy a nice set of wheel and pedals with engines, paddles, rubber padding and all for that sort of money... 80 bucks for a stick and 8 buttons? WTF!!! I hope for all Mad Catz staff to die. (I do not use diapers on my head LOL)

While I would normally have qualms about buying madcatz hardware, these fight sticks are actually great quality. The tournament edition one is great out of the box. The $40 ones use cheaper parts, but are very easy to upgrade at home.

from all my years of gaming back to snes i learned to..... NEVER buy a madcatz controller. out of like 20 i never had one that worked longer then a week.

I really really want one. Why does everything i love cost so much money. Maybe it's that I like luxurious items. Anyway... The stick is well worth the money (adds it to my wish list)

i have one of the initial runs of the TE stick and it's a solid piece of hardware. the art on the new one is pretty nice and i'd like to get it but $300 for two fight sticks just doesn't seem worth it.

Madcatz controllers look nice, but they do not last long. I have had so many Madcatz controllers break for no reason at all.

If anyone has a passion for fighting games, the TE is such an amazing product to have. I bought a random no-name brand stick back in april, and then when I got the TE in august, I just couldn't use the the previous stick anymore. And the price of the stick isn't anything to complain about either, since it'll work for any fighting games in the years to come.

I think they must have already released multiple waves of fightsticks. When they first came out I couldn't get one but they are pretty easy to get now. It seems the standard edition hasn't sold so well, I'm tempted to pick one up as they are apparently pretty good for modding. I've been really pleased with the fight stick but I might pick up a pad or two.

@Junk trap Just bought one. Been waiting since Feb to get one and begin playing again, was not going to spend the 200+ on Amazon/Ebay. Just snagged for 129 off Newegg with free shipping. People may have stopped playing cause they realized how crappy the xbox/ps3 controller is for fighting games.

I own one of the initial run TE sticks. It's fantastic. If you are serious about any fighter (HD remix, SF4, Blazblue, Tekken, anything) than this is a great stick to pick up. The parts are great (it's sanwa) and the case is very cool. If you are worried about madcatz reputation, they have truely turned a corner with the SF4 products. These are the best peripherals ever made that are not custom jobs.

@Kleeyook They don't make it wireless because it might lag the inputs.

@soulreaper-4: I don't think I am wrong in my statement. Sure there may still be a good amount of people playing SFIV. However, the poeple who really wanted a stick I'm sure have already gotten one by now. We haven't seen a craze of arcade sticks selling in comparison to the past like when it did when SFIV first came out ever. Usually in a fighting game, the people who cannot progress whether its a lack of devotion or they just aren't dexterous enough drop the game from their playlist. Secondly, I am aware of the website called shoryuken.com. Your reference to the website holds no water. Those are just people who still play but compared to the initial 2 million people who bought the game, I'd be surprised if even 20% of the people still play. SFIV sold roughly 2 million back may of 2009. I guarantee you that not even 25% of those people still play. The game has been out for a long time and people have moved onto other games. The only ones that continue to play are hardcore. I am not downplaying arcade sticks. I think they're great, but in no way is Madcatz going to find the success like their first batch. My truth still stands...

BigBacon87, If you really like fighting games, its a good investment. The sticks don't just work with Street Fighter, they with with all fighting games that use a stick. For many people, a stick is the only way to play, and with all of the quality fighters lately, you have to have a good one that will last and hold up under pressure. A stick of that quality will usually cost quite a bit.

BigBacon87

Can't help but think most people are buying these as collectors items, how many are really paying that much and playing with them? You have to REALLY like Street Figher to shell out that kinda money.

I wonder if these second edition sticks will look different. I also wonder how they will affect the value of the first edition, as I'm sure many people (including myself) bought them as a collector's item.

Not to pimp out Ebay, but there is a guy there that makes custom sticks w/ the option to add buttons or change artwork starting @ $179 w/ free shipping. I bought one for SFI on the 360 & PC, and it works great. Still might pick up the Mad Catz one if store in my area have them in stock this time.

Is a bit rip off, i rather get the Hori Real Arcade Pro. 3-SA same size as the te stick, it use all sanwa parts. Also work with ps2 and ps1, which te stick didn't. That is a major let down consider the best fighting game is still on ps1 and 2. And i could save $40 for the nearly same thing. I trust quality of Hori instead of Madcatz.

This is arguably the best stick money can currently buy, but unfortunately it's not MadCatz merit.. Those Sanwa parts definitely are resistant, but the net is filled with sad stories about the standard sticks (exclusively made of MadCatz parts), proving that they put way more attention and work on how to build their comeback publicity than on how to actually make their products, or reply to the huge demand. In fact, this second batch was supposed to come out June/July. I tried finding one of these badboys on the internet for a few days but frustration struck fast, after seeing the hundreds of people that had bought multiple sticks just to sell them afterwards at more or less two times the original price. Frustration turned into creation and after finding the proper guides, I made my first (completely"ghetto"-pics on my profile prove it) arcade stick, using precisely the same quality Sanwa parts the TE stick and the SFIV Viewlix cabinet has. Going through with something I'd never done before, I'd recommend this process to anyone in any given day, as overall, it has cost me significantly less than the TE stick and this experience gives you the unique feeling of playing with something that you've entirely built yourself..

The TE Stick from this company is by far the best stick money can buy. I have one of the first editions and 6 months on from very heavy use it still doesnt skip a beat and actually feels better than the Tekken 6 arcade we have in town. Believe the hype. But if you arent willing to fork out for one, dont get the standard as that particular one is still typical madcatz rubbish. The TE is an authentic SANWA arcade level stick, pretty much ripped stright out of the cabnet sony will never compete with that.

This would make it way more easier to play the game, all the buttons are right there which would make it easier to do combos than with a controller. But Im not buying it because its expensive and it came out a way too late.
