According to luchadore canon, there are few things more sacred to masked Mexican wrestlers than the ornate and distinctive headwear that hides (or communicates, depending on one's perspective) their true identities. While a mask's value is nigh incalculable to its wearer, that same mask's value to upstart publisher Slang is apparently zilch.

To promote the release of Lucha Libre AAA: Heroes del Ring, Slang is teaming up with a handful of retailers including GameStop to give customers who preorder an "authentic" wrestling mask from one of four famed AAA grapplers: Dr. Wagner Jr., La Parka, Octagon, or Abismo Negro. According to Slang, those who preorder will receive a mail-in voucher good for a replica mask of the publisher's choice upon picking up the game. However, GameStop is advertising that customers will receive their masks at the time of pickup.

La Parka is Spanish for
La Parka is Spanish for "the parka."

The specialty retailer is also somewhat cagey as to whether or not customers will get to choose their preferred mask. All online GameStop preorder customers will receive the mask of Dr. Wagner Jr., while all four masks will be available at brick-and-mortar locations, but "selection may vary by store."

Lucha Libre AAA: Heroes del Ring is set for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and DSiWare on October 12, with a PSP version arriving "at a later date." All versions except for the DSiWare edition are eligible for the mask promotion. The Xbox 360 and PS3 editions of the game are being developed with the Unreal Engine 3 by Immersion Software, with offices in Guadalajara, Mexico, and Bogota, Colombia. Argentine developer Sabarasa Studios is handling development on the Wii, PSP, and DS editions of the game.
