LucasArts has officially unveiled Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II for the Nintendo GameCube, as part of its continuing countdown to the upcoming E3 convention. As with the original Nintendo 64 game, in Rogue Squadron II players assume control of classic Star Wars vehicles such as the X-Wing, A-Wing, and B-Wing in order to take part in space-combat missions. Throughout the game there are eleven primary missions, which include the Death Star attack complete with Luke Skywalker's trench run, a space attack on the Star Destroyer, and a battle on the ice planet of Hoth, among others.

LucasArts promises that graphically the game's starfighters will rival the visually quality of those seen in the original Star Wars films. Adding to the game's visual style will be real-time weather and lighting effects highlighting such elements as the setting of the twin suns of Tatooine and the transition from day to night.

Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II will be released in the fall of this year. GameSpot will have more on the game from the upcoming E3 in Los Angeles.
