Lost Planet orbiting PS3 in '08

After hitting the Xbox 360 and PC, Capcom's sci-fi shooter is arriving on Sony's console early next year, with all online updates in tow.

After a flurry of rumor and speculation, Capcom confirmed in March that Devil May Cry 4 would be going multiplatform. The game, originally slated as a PlayStation 3 exclusive, is also now due out on the Xbox 360.

Now the company is doing the same with its onetime Xbox 360 exclusive, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. After being ported to the PC earlier this year, the popular sci-fi shooter will also arrive on the PlayStation 3 in early 2008. According to Capcom, the rapid porting time is made possibly by the fact Lost Planet was developed with the MT framework, a proprietary in-house game engine designed to work with both the 360 and PS3.

In an embargoed announcement made at the Capcom Gamer's Day earlier this week, Capcom stated that the PS3 version of Lost Planet will feature all the content from the 360 version, plus all subsequent downloadable content from Xbox Live, along with extras included in the PC version. These include additional characters, including Frank West from Dead Rising and Mega Man.

The PS3 version will also allow gamers to battle in cooperative or versus battles with up to 16 players. These include elimination mode, where it's every man for himself, team elimination, where whichever team is wiped out first loses, and fugitive, where one player tries to achieve a series of goals within a time limit without getting killed by the other players.

Producer Jun Takeuchi commented, "We've heard a lot of opinions on the game and a lot of opinions from users who don't have an Xbox 360 [but who would like to play.] So, today, I would like to announce the PS3 version."

The PS3 Lost Planet port reflects a growing trend among developers moving away from platform exclusivity. Other companies, including Koei, have also decided to go this route, with Koei announcing last November that Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War and Fatal Inertia both becoming multiplatform, along with Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed.

Nice. It was good for 360 and PC, so its nice to see PS3 owners get what us 360 owners have enjoyed for a while (and no Im not trying to sound like a fanboy. I really am happy for you guys), and, as DMC2677 said, its nice that capcom is letting us 360 owners enjoy devil may cry 4. But to be honest, I think capcom is somewhat cheating you guys since 360 and PC owners get lost planet colonies edition in may for $30 with much more extra content (which capcom has said that it probably wont come to PS3). Check out the preview on IGN (its got more data) and you'll see what I mean. Its good for me, but it doesn't seem fair to you.....

Bloody hell but this fan boy wars are getting stupid!!!! I bet you it has nothing to do with the games or the consoles but mostly because they have the one and not the other! jealous good for nothing bunch of looooooosers!!!! Blah blah blah blah i hate blah blah freakin' BLAH!!! I just hope everyones wakes up one day and realizes how lucky we are to have the gaming technology we have today. Doesn't matter what it is you are playing and what platform you are playing it on you are lucky to have the opportunity in the first place. i own one of these at the moment and I won't say what it is because the fan boys of the other ones will start hammering on me for no reason.... I will get both the other 2 consoles that i as of yet don't have when I actually have the money for them all... Exclusive are cool in a way but but sometimes it takes away that experience from a lot of other people because they can only afford one console. And then that game is not on theirs does that mean they just loose out because they aren't a bunch of **** I'm one of those that work real hard and don't have the cash to just buy everything I want and it sucks seeing good games slip by because I might no have that console. So making less exclusives is fine by me... But it will never make me jealous of the others or make me hate them just because they have that game as an exclusive. I just wish we won't have to read all this fighting crap on who's beating who blah blah blah freakin' blah.....

Meh. Played it already. If it came out for the PS3 a little sooner I might have got it for that system, but it's already been on the XBox a while now...

"Devvy01 Good move, these exclusive platform games do nothing for the gaming industry except force people to buy that platform... Sorry no works..." ACTUALLY JUST POOR READING COMPREHENSION WHAT you get 100 on your SAT's 1) ONE COMPANY'S SUCCESS DOES NOT EQUAL INDUSTRY HEALTH, 2) NO ONE IS FORCEING ANYONE TO DO ANYTHING. NINTENDO IS DOING BETTER THAN ANYONE AND THE GREAT ORIGINAL GAMES ON THAT PLATFORM ARE? MORE ZELDA MORE MARIO AND MORE METROID. nuff said? It's the characters people love, and when independent game co's don't have a console to pull people to, they are able to just focus on just a great game for any platform making game play storyline and graphics better, to beat the competition, because every system is different. yes? no? more?(you've been watching too much g4tv atos) dumbing nerds down annually.

Ok...Now Capcom is being fair across the board. 360 owners, enjoy DMC!!! Awesome series as I own all three!

Why should this even have surprised anyone? Capcom has been known to back out of exclusive deals. It's written in their history, such as Resident Evil 4, Viewtiful Joe, Okami, Devil May Cry, and now this.

Wow, this act will upset the people who own XBOX360...as we don't get the PC extra contents.... Anyway, so is the game blue-ray disc and the graphic gonna be better on PS3?

Meet mister nobody, plus, I'm glad a lot of the exclusivity junk is going in the bin, cause exclusivity didn't grow the industry, Mario, Sonic, Crash,Tekken and Street Fighter did. In other words great games and cool characters; whether they were by the console companies or not. Halo still sucks, so do 90% of all FPS' , don't care how much money they make! Lousy Alien/ Predator/ Robo cop design rip off crap!!

Ahhahahahha it's a little to late, 360 and PC owners of the game played it until they dropped, noone's going to buy it for the PS3.

I liked it on 360... but I got rid of it before a lot of the extras came out. Playable Frank and Megaman might just constitute a re-purchase. with that said, capcom is HORRIBLE at keeping things exclusive. I mean... I don't really care since I own all 3 consoles, but I thought the "only on 360" stamp actually meant something.

the game looked pretty nice on hdtv. It looks horrible comparitively on a 480p tv. The higher resolution helps you see all the weather effects and detailed caves and buildings better. Anyways the singleplayer was really fun in some parts but the basic gunplay with soldiers wasn't as satisfying as it could have been. It had awesome mech battles and killer explosion effects. The multiplayer was pretty lame though. I knew as soon as i played the online beta. It's a great game too show of your new vid card. If you are buying it for Ps3 then i hope it's for the singleplayer. I loved Warkhawk's multiplayer a heck lot more and i think that is a better investment.

PS360fanboy: "it just proves that Xbox cant keep it's Exsclusives" *remembers DMC4, Assassins Creed, Bladestorm, and Fatal intertia* Yea...right. Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Fable 2, Halo 3, PGR series, Forza series, Halo Wars, Too Human, Dead Rising, etc. I can go on...every console has their exclusives. 360 holds them just as well as any console especially considering its installed base, which is large, the largest at this point in time in fact. Lost Planet has been multiplatform since it was released on the PC a long time ago.

I am an actual gamer (as opposed to a fanboy of a particular platform) and I am not a fan of exclusives. I have no problem with games going multiplatform. It just means that more people get to play a game.

nazraq

i'm a fan of exclusives. i am a hardcore gamer and i want justification for my console purchase. if every game becomes multi platform, than video game machines are as good as mp3 players. they might have a few different features, but they all play the same music. what's the point?

ctg867
ctg867

Anybody surprised that Lost Planet is going multi-platform? Only thing surprising is they're wasting the time to port LP1. They should just do LP2 on PS3, 360, and PC on the same day and date and let it be done. Dead Rising will soon follow. I doubt Microsoft will fight for that. Capcom isn't in the market to be making exclusives. Expect all Capcom games to be at least PS3/360 same date, with a possible PC version same day or later down the line.

This is great news! I've always wanted to play Lost Planet. and now I can. With all of the extras included.. Sweeeeet! I think that the only place we will be seeing exclusives come 2008 is going to be from Microsoft and Sony and their sub companies. Many 3rd parties are seeing that getting sales from all the platforms is a win-win situation.

DanteDiPasquale

Brob37 everyone is like that these days -- gamers have become devided in a massive way thanks largely in part by the internet and forums. Just think how awesome it would be to come online and never seen any argument over titles vs titles or console vs console. That aside its nice to see the PS3 finally getting some love from this apparent exclusivity dumping trend.

Giggleface

This is great news! More high profile games should go multi-platform anyways so that everyone can enjoy them. This game will add to the library of great games for the PS3. I finished this game on the PC cause I don't have an Xbox. While several review website gave the PC port a poor rating, I though the game was really good and exceeded my expectations. If you like 3rd person shooters, robots, aliens, and giant bosses, this game is for you!

Well i see it like this, we get DMC going multi plat. I do not hate capcom for putting LP on ps3, in fact i must say its a well placed mark. Since LP sold well on 360, well why not see if will do the same and or better for ps3. Eathr way it goes the more capcom pulls in, the higher chance we might see a sequale or a pre, or game based off of its engine.

brob37

oatmealking- halo 4 for ps3 huh....? its funny how ps3 owners talk about how the whole halo series is an "average shooter" or "sub par and over hyped" but when they think they have a shot to get it on their console it has "potential" and could " blow 360 away" typical of sony fanboys

baltimore187

Lost Planet is a still a great game. It shows that time and effort was put into it concidering it was ont of the first wave of games for the 360 to surface. I don't play it much now because I've already beaten it...2wice. For all of you Ps3 fan boy's, I recommend you play this game if you've never experienced it b4. True the game is a bit old, but I would never call this game a "sloppy second" because it offers a fresh game experience that hasn't been done in a while. I just hope it dosen't turn out like all other ps3 ports with choppy graFX and low textures. But on the real tho.... drop all this fan boy girly " ps3 has this and xbox dosen't" crap and go out and but this game!

well done sony but no thanks.can't you just give your ps3 version of the games some months(or years maybe) earlier?

HA!!! srry no offense but I just find it funny that the people (unlike me) who didn't sell their ps3s after a few days are now fighting over the leftovers of the 360 owners, all the while ranting about how advanced their console is and how much better it is, so much so that the 360 cannot handle its games. ROFL

OatmealKing thats right fools.....u xbox fans took out DMC series....now we get your exclusives......just waiting for bungie to realize the potential....if they made a halo4 for ps3.....it would kill !!!! 360 prob wouldnt be able to handle it so make it our exclusive.....ehh...who am i kidding...i think halo3 is the dirt....i only kinda enjoyed the 1st one....we dont need that bs!! dude, stfu, I **** hate fanboys and posts like these, your the kind of ppl that make me not want to check out these forums like that anymore

I own Lost Planet, and it's pretty fun. The campaign is short, and the plot makes no sense, but it's a lot of fun. I hope PS3 owners have as much fun with Lost Planet as I do still. And maybe.... just maybe....... Microsoft and Sony could compromise... and just MAYBE 360 owners and PS3 owners could battle each other online. Together. But the 360 owners would pwn (no offense PS3 dudes) because we have more experience with the game.

Instead of trying to horn in on game exclusives, shouldn't Sony be striving to create better ones? I think that eventually the PS3 could have a great library of games, but until they start to push towards better development we won't be seeing that...
