Lost Planet finds US release date

Capcom's sci-fi shooter is headed to American Xbox 360s; Japan gets it first, with US release following in 2007.

With Dead Rising being pushed back, Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting not yet on Xbox Live Arcade, and Resident Evil 5 well off in the distance, Capcom has yet to release its first next-generation game. That isn't stopping the company from continuing to announce plans for more, however.

Lost Planet, from Onimusha creator Keiji Inafune, was unveiled last December for a late 2006 release in Japan on the Xbox 360. Today, Capcom revealed that Lost Planet will be coming to the United States in the first quarter of 2007.

The game is a science-fiction shooter set on a frigid planet in the outer reaches of space. Humankind's survival is put to the test when indigenous creatures and an invading species threaten to eradicate the humans living on the planet. The game will also be Xbox Live-enabled and will feature several multiplayer modes.

Lost Planet has not yet been rated or priced. For more information, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

At first I wasn't too keen on purchasing this game, but it's looking like it's going to shape up rather well. I better go reserve this one.

Imavnas, Gears of War is a 360 exclusive... This could be a good game. I'm glad we're actually getting it here in the states.

Could someone explain why they release games in japan first. Why not just have a worldwide release day. Am I missing something here?

even though it's a long time, I'll be entertained with other games.

I'm still not sure what to make of Lost Planet. I kinda lost interests when I saw the mechs. Yawn...

this won't sell the xbox360 in japan just like non-of the first xbox games didn't. M$ has clearly learned nothing from the xbox1, and they are making the same mistakes all over again.

The game looks great. I think that Capcom is taking the right steps by trying to support all the consoles in the market even if they fail to perform well in Japan. I think that way they can try to get more people buying an XBox 360.

? I dont mind Nintendo taking their time to show games, what I DO mind is fangoys getting all riled up for it when we havent seen any games for it or havent even seen the controller be put to use in an actual game. Like I said before, its like getting hyped up over nothing, as theirs nothing to be seen yet (and worse yet, Nintendos current console track record isnt that great, so getting riled up is basically sitting on every word that Reggie, Nin's VP speaks, and we all know every vp is full of ^%$#. Their just giving speeches to hype each of their systems). And how can you NOT mind delays that much? Its a new system that costs quite a bit of cash to purchase. Seeing games like this one, LostPlanet, being scheduled for it is great news, but not when its scheduled to release a ridiculous YEAR away from now, when the 360 needs good, EXCLUSIVE titles NOW. Its even worse because a year from now it might get delayed AGAIN, and then theyll expand its production to include PC or PS3 and no longer would it be a much needed 360 exclusive. Catch my drift here? It seems like the only games Microsoft has scheduled to be exclusives for its system for sure are its Team Ninja games and its Bungie games (with Bungie actually belonging to them), because even Bioware is considering PS3 right now. (example: every killer app for the 360 this year is simultaneously releasing on PC as well fyi; i.e. Oblivion, Advanced Warfighter, Gears of War, etc etc.)

Imavnas, Nintendo isn't showing anything because the Rev games are not ready to be shown yet. I mean its not like the system is coming out in two months. Of course I'm with you when you say there is not enough games for the Xbox 360 right now but I don't mind delays too much since all I have been seeing released recently is crap.

This game does look pretty amazing. It's nice to have capcom supporting the 360 - gives a little more variety in the game selection.

Why 2007? why japan first? being that japan doesn't care about the Xbox brand, why so long? What are they waiting for a PS3 version first? *sarcasm*

Nintendo is another culprit i forgot to mention in my previous post of "No vids or gameplay" Dont see why people are interested in the Rev. just because of the controller when we have absolutely NO game footage WHATSOEVER. Yea sure the controller CAN do that, but will it be LIKE THAT when we play a game? Its a totally new type of gameplay yet were all judging from the go with both extremes. You can pretty much attribute this to the absurd human tradition of fearing the unknown. Instead here your hailing the unknown. How in the world do you plan to effectively hail or fear something that you have no idea about? Ridiculous.

Well X360 might not ever be as big as a Sony or Nintendo machine here in Japan but it certainly showing some potential with this despite being another FPS. At least for now it's exclusive so that's a plus and not to mention it looks fantastic. Between this and those Mistwalker RPGs and a Far East of Eden game coming X360 is looking not too bad in my eyes as a game player. I'll likely get a X360 as well as a PS3 and REV for competitions sake and hope that they will compete fiercely bring out lots of quality titles to quench my gaming thirst (considering the stagnation right now besides mainly DS innovative goods my console is pretty thirsty for good games). Well at least I'll have FFXII in March to play as I ponder whether to get an X360 after the E3. Now if MS gets the soon to be released arcade sure fire hit, Virtua Fighters 5 on the X360 I can see plenty of Japanese getting this system just for that though it likely at this stage head to PS3. Well we'll see if MS are really taking their Japanese market seriously soon enough (the initial release was terrible besides Ridge Racer). DOA4 is nothing big but fanservice for hentai gameplayers. Meh.... I certainly want to see some fierce competition to release those quality titles. Seriously if Halo 3 is what MS is calling an ace card then they are truly delusional. As far as I'm concern FPS is truely at home on mouse and keyboard with my PC. While this game looks slick and will at least have a decent story it's looks to be just a TPS/FPS hybrid (FPS likely to be played out genre for X360 besides Sports). We'll see how good it is though so far it's coming along nicely. At least X360 has more to show than PS3 I suppose. Just MGS4 alone though is hyping PS3 out of proportion. I'm not too happy with Sony either due to their bandwagon riding hype (and those lame blind Sony fanboys/girls) having nothing to show but spec and crappy non hardware demo. Nintendo has me more excited at the moment with their innovations. REV will be something of a suprise dark horse if you ask me (consisering DS success here it's likely to succeed). Lost Planet is the one of the few only games that's looking good so far on this so far lacking system. I'll keep following on it to see if Capcom can help X360 any here in Japan.

ugh, Optimus do you see me hailing the PS3? Is that all you can think of when people put down the 360? that their FOR Sony or FOR Nintendo? Im really starting to get annoyed by all these fanboys including you who automatically assume that if you put a system down your rooting for another. Im rooting for GAMES buddy. If you notice im considering SELLING my 360 for a new GRAPHICS card not to put it on a future PS3 preorder (although I do already have money down for both the PS3 and Revolution). Also you dont have to go far to notice that half those games your touting are coming out for the PC anyway. Here on Gamespot, just browse through ALL games for 360 and ALL games for PC and youll see plenty of the same titles. Ive played Doa4 plenty and yes the Jungle stage looks incredible but that doesnt mean the games has much lasting appeal. Honestly if your a fighting game buff or at the very least an enthusiast, any game from the long list of Doa's is a negative. Just mash some buttons and watch the fighting destruction unfold with minimal effort. Hell last time I was at a gamestop I saw a 7 year old boy doing just that (on a 360 kiosk) with Kasumi against Hayate and, well, he won. Theres just no strategic depth like you find in the likes of VF or SC, or hell even some 2d fighters like the GGX series. Except for the grabs all the characters are pretty much interchangable give or take a little bit of speed. And dont get me started on that counter system. Sure its not the crap we saw from DOA3 where one correctly timed button press could counter everything, but adding a direction to each counter doesnt add too much depth either. And if you disagree with me on this, then go to a fighting game tournament and ask any real fighting game buff what he thinks of Doa. Its just not that, well, great. And about the rest of the games, graphics alone dont signify next gen. PGR3 was a great game (IMO best launch game for the system) but it came out WITH the system about three months ago. Regardless of system choice three months is FAR longer than i spend on WoW to get a character from 1 to 60 plus epic sets and at least their its a unique experience all the way through. No game should be played for that long unless ur planning on playing truly competitvly, or your a SERIOUSLY casual gamer. And no Fight Night Round 3 ISNT a justification for next gen. I dont like boxing so why the hell would I play a game about it? see thats the other side of the coin, many fanboys here who root for their system think people should play every game available for it "just because". When the PS3 comes out I can guarantee you EA will have tons of its sports games out for it, just like they do for almost every system. And I dont care HOW awesome the graphics may or may not look im not going to play them if I dont like them. And finally, I do own a 360. And honestly its not all that its cracked up to be. A good computer that can play half the games the 360 will be getting or already has (for example, ghost recon ,oblivion, AND gears of war, all of which are releasing on PC simultaneously if not EARLIER) could cost you about 800 bucks. You dont need a 7800GTX to play Oblivion. Hell they just recently released recommended requirements, go to www.elderscrolls.com and you can check them out (and their not that harsh). And fine you dont have XBL but do you really NEED achievements and points? If you need those to get you to play a game then its a good indication the game wasnt that great or long (or both) to begin with. Its like squeezing a lemon for juice thats just not there, grab yourself a new lemon already. And if you say thats what XBL arcade is for, I say thats why Gametap was created. Again, PC. And before you even MENTION that the PS3 will have the same problem I think you should reserve that comment for when gamers actually have REAL concrete evidence of what games will be releasing with it (should be some info at GDC in late March) , some actual hands on gameplay (im not judging that controller till I actually use it, even if it does look funky) and of course more real time vids than just MGS4 (because thats truly the only game weve seen running ON a PS3). Alright and finally, Lost Planet, LOOKS amazing, but like every game releasing on a next gen system (any one of them), ill reserve judgement till I get some gameplay.

i'm so excited for this game. those enemies look INCREDIBLE. and unlike thos ps3 videos, you can SO tell this is REAL TIME!!!! someone playing the game!!! woo woo! the trailer went by too fast tho, did anyone see some environmental damage effects? if not, this is such an early, yet visually stunning build. it makes me want to go hug my 360. *hugs 360* this was even in standard definition!?????

Imavnas you responded to an immature comment with an equally immature comment.... doesn't help either of you. Doa 4 not next gen? Do you actually own a 360? Have you seen the jungle stage in doa 4? The safari stage? The things that get destroyed in that market stage and the way they continue rolling as you are in the middle of fights? PGR 3 doesn't look next gen? That game is basically cg quality cars ingame.... Fight night round 3 isn't justification? Ghost Recon is one of the most visually stunning games ever and you don't think that is good enough either?. Gears of War is coming this year... so is elder scrolls, tomb raider, splinter cell, quite possibly too human or mass effect as well. Blue dragon shows up this year, but in japan so we'll get that baby next year for the usa. Ninety nine nights comes out this year, but we'll most likely see that game next year in the usa as its coming to japan first. There are more than enough good games coming this year to keep 360 owners satisfied. The fact that you said DOA 4 isn't next gen makes me think you've never been in the same room while doa 4 was being ran on a 360 because that jungle stage alone is absolutely incredible I don't know how anyone can try to argue otherwise... If you are ignorant enough to overlook ghost recon of all games this just proves that you have VERY unrealistic hopes for the ps3 and you better be prepared to be disappointed if you overlook a game as incredible as ghost recon what do you hope to see from a ps3 game? That killzone video?

Yea a SHOOTER never does well in japan (metal gear solid, resident evil, devil may cry) This game will be amazing and it isn't mostly first person view incase anyone is wondering. Its alot of 3rd person as well.

oh yea, nice to see the 360 getting some games..IN 2007!! Wtf? The damn system needs games NOW MICROSOFT, NOT A YEAR FROM NOW! And to the guy that said PS3 = vaporware, i think ur getting PS3 confused with 360's game library = currently non-existent (and from the looks of this announcement, and other recently announced 360 delays, its going to stay that way for a while). I think the only reason im keeping my 360 right now is because I cant rent games for my PC, because 3/4th of every slated game for it is releasing on PC too. Microsoft, wheres the next gen you promised?! It sure as hell isnt DOA4 or PGR3, so back up ur smack talk already! I need some justification for purchasing this system before I Ebay it for a better graphics card!
