Rockstar Games has confirmed that lost Grand Theft Auto Online characters and rank cannot be restored. In a comment on the Rockstar Newswire, the developer said it hopes that the recently announced $500,000 worth of in-game credit will help players "get back on your feet."
"For those asking about their lost characters or rank, those will not be able to be restored so we sincerely hope that this cash stimulus we’re giving out this month will help you get back on your feet or to make your new life in Los Santos & Blaine extra sweet," Rockstar said.
Rockstar also confirmed that it will release a new title update for GTA Online next week that promises more bug fixes--including the vanishing vehicle issue.
"We will remain committed to continuing to fine-tune the game to address any and all issues to get GTA Online running as smooth as possible," Rockstar said.
New GTA Online content like Heists are also in the works. Rockstar said it hopes to have news about release timing for this content and more "soon."
Grand Theft Auto Online, the multiplayer component to Grand Theft Auto V, launched on October 1. Users reported numerous problems at launch.

As somebody who (like most people) plays on both console and PC I'd like to thank the ridiculous "PC only" crowd for all of the laughs.

Why are people bashing on PC? I'm not taking sides, as I think PS3 and Xbox are both great as well, but there is no major difference and you end up with no result being an obnoxious person.

I can't believe all the crap I'm reading, I've never lost a character coz I used my brain and I didn't create new ones when mine was gone . Gtao is an awsum game , there's not too much multiplayer content ATM but even just exploring Los santos with a friend is fun. And pc gamers wtf.. I'm a pc gamer who baught a ps3 for this game and I don't mind, if it never comes for pc I could not be bothered less, stop complaining and get a console, r* is new to the huge online multiplayer thing and I think they made a fantastic game and even with the bugs it's fun as hell, good job R*
I'm also going to say... It would be way cool if GTA could have included NPC that are not all simply worthless. I always imagined them hooking in a SIMS 3 like behavior but more hardcore with gang traits, temper, etc. Then having a world filled with people who can become your friends, betray you, offer jobs, etc. The sims was out like a zillion years ago and still 99% of games have NPC characters that are worthless and contribute nothing. Clearly with some work the NPC's can be far more interesting and make the world far more interesting as a result.
it's sad that they had some good ideas but the execution and gameplay feels like something from five years ago. Not all that fun.
I'm already bored of GTA V online multiplayer. Not that it's not good; but I guess I'm more of a story driven guy.
By the time gta5 hits pc. I had already hit 100% for story mode and ranked 100 for online mode. Time to put the Old game aside.

They need to patch the strobe flashing kill effect to make it optional. I love this game, but the kill effect makes it unplayable and it hurts my eyes to the point of getting a headache. Some people don't like kill indicators and the X is enough. the screen flash is just obtrusive.
Meh, I got over the multiplayer and just went back to playing the single player. Multiplayer just felt tacked on like usual.

GTA's rankings are fucked up!!! I had the #1 GLOBAL ranking for something in the flight school. I went to go look at the leaderboards but hit "A" accidentally to launch the trial again. So I played through it because it was quicker than to reload the game. After I finished the damn trial, it took THAT score as my rank and erased the awesome one I had. So it went by my most recent score as opposed to my best score. I was pissed! Hell, I'M STILL PISSED!!!

When the online part was broken created a character, I met Lamar at the airport, had the race and participated in drug deals and ranked to level 4. Now it says tutorial , which I never saw, ran over 40 people, stole 20 cars, contacted Semieon, raced in 3 events and played 2 Deathmatches and JUST GOT to level 4! WTF?!......((((AND)))) where's my $500,000.00 Raockstar said they'd give online players because they fucked up?
