Lollipop Chainsaw fan feedback shaping Suda 51's next game

Fan feedback to be taken into consideration for development of Suda 51's upcoming game, Killer Is Dead.

by

Kadokawa Games CEO Yoshimi Yasuda has confirmed in an interview with Japanese website Impress Watch that he is collaborating with Grasshopper Manufacture CEO Goichi Suda (better known as Suda 51) to collect player feedback from the recently released title Lollipop Chainsaw. The pair will use the information to help tune the development of the upcoming game Killer is Dead.

Fans were mixed about the amount of sparkles in Lollipop Chainsaw's kills.

Yasuda confessed that Lollipop Chainsaw's reception was mixed at best, ranging from comments such as "This is bad" to suggestions of how to best fix certain elements for a potential sequel. The majority of feedback being collected has been from both local and international fans.

The PlayStation 3 version of Lollipop Chainsaw was among the top 10 games in Japan for the week of June 18-24. For more information, check out GameSpot's full review.

Sometimes I just want to chop some shit up and for that, I am grateful for games like Lollipop Chainsaw and Onechanbara.  I found both to be better for that purpose than DMC.

The game is awesome, high standard people tend to make it hard for games to be appreciated.

I feel a lot of pain for the critics a little, but Lollipop Chainsaw isn't a bad game, people. Although the controls were a little clunky, but the action is fun.

In my opinion, this was one of Suda 51's disappointing games along with Killer 7 and Diabolical Pitch.

Next time, when you have an achievement for looking up her skirt, actually let us look up her skirt. Not a hand in the way. A real let down achievement.

Lollipop Chainsaw is great fun, energetic and has awesome replay value, its not a game to be taken seriously but after all who would take a cheerleader with a big ass chainsaw and a decapitated head seriously. The downside for Lollipop Chainsaw was (even though i was expecting it) sparkels, it needed more blood just to even out the ratio between blood to sparkles, i think the pax demo would have been great and for some strange reason they decreased the amount of blood in the final version of the game where as in pax east demo there was much more blood, but aside from that Lollipop Chainsaw is an amazing game. The controls were quite simple, with B as jump and A as low attack. It does take some getting used to but it feel quite natural very early. Boss battles in this game are very hyped and energetic especially "Zed The Punk Rock Zombie" i thought the way he turned his lyrics/shouts into actual weapons was a very cool touch to this game. This game by far is the easiest game to get all the achievements in my opinion even though it was kinda hard in some spots. I think Suda 51 should make an update for the game to go straight to boss battles without playing the whole level again and possibly just a bit more blood when you dismember Juliets fellow students and friends.

I give this game a 9/10, would of given it a 10/10 if it had the amount of gore like in the pax east demo.

Bioware is demonstrate an example to listen to gamers & make "compensation" for what they did for they poor ending game. Therefore it is right to listen to gamers voice & imagine without this different voice, how can a company grow & improve? Of course for some unrealistic gamers demand, the company can choose what to do.This game is can improve: 1. Reduce the repetitve2. Put more effort into storyline (according to what i know, some interesting character appearance is very short)3. Stupid joke? Keep some hilarious joke (my face is facing your ass, can you move a little)4. Skill, pls add in more interesting skill tree.5. Allow player to jump over the car, PPPLLLSSSS!!!!

Here's some advice Suda 51:

1. Make it less repetitive

2. Make it less ridiculouls

3. Focus on gameplay and not stupid jokes and cheap profanities (just keep some)

4. Include more panty and boobs shots

5. And play the game a 1000 times before you release a piece of crap!

Listening to feedback is always good, but don't rely solely on it....

Just as long as he takes the advice with some caution, then his next game should be great.

Listening to diehard fans will only make a game more derivative and absurd.  After Killer 7 I thought he would go on to be one of the more original game designers out there, but instead he just gets sloppier and more predictable.

Lol Japanese website names always make me laugh. Also, that website looks like it was designed in the 90's. Good fun

"The majority of feedback being collected has been from both local and international fans"...

And the minority of feedback was what, collected from extraplanetary  fans?

I saw the guy in the thumbnail before reading the title. And because of the type of clothes he was wearing, I thought it was news about another Bully game. I am disappointed. =[

I know some people liked it. My friend complimented it on being challenging, if I'm thinking of the right game.

Conceptually, I thought Lollipop Chainsaw hit all the right notes in regards to being an homage to goofy B grade, Tromatastic horror films. While the combat could certainly have been tweaked here and there, I honestly thought it was effective given the beat em up approach of the gameplay. I personally seemed to like the game more than most, which might be because I'm a big fan of a lot of the stuff it pays tribute to.

I think it's imperative that Suda51 makes games how he wants to aesthetically, as that's really what makes them so interesting. As far as gameplay is concerned, I'd actually like to see him take a stab at another game with some RPG elements, but maybe with some of his far out concepts for stereotypical mechanics like leveling up and increasing stats. Contact was pretty wacky, but more or less tame. A hybrid between some of the ideas from Contact and gameplay like Shadows of The Damned gets me pretty excited when I think about it.

I support Suda 51 games, but this is one I didn't get. It just didn't seem like it was worth my time to play. I'm hoping next one will be better.

I suggest using killer 7 art style for their next game. I also would like another No more heroes game. NMH3 for Wii U would totally sell me that system.

Biggest problem for me is that I don't like for my attacks to not phase the enemies at all, but every time I'm hit it knocks me back and interrupts my combo. I already can't wait for his next game, though :)

The only issue this game had for me was the games length and the stiffness of Julietts animations. If Suda could smooth them out then I would gladly buy a sequel or similar game from his studios. Lollipop Chainsaw was the first game of Suda's I purchased and have completed it 3 times already, the soundtrack is what keeps bringing me back. No matter how stiff the controls are just hearing those beats keeps a smile on my face.

How they thought those QTE sections were a good idea....i will never know...I have no problem with QTE what so ever! but QTE for preforming an action like walking? are you f***ing kidding me?!

Senor_Kami
Senor_Kami

It's biggest problem is that it's a Bayonetta style game with style and sexuality out the wazoo, but they forgot that Bayonetta has some of the best gameplay in it's genre.  LC has some of the mehest gameplay in it's genre and no amount of style is going to negate that.

To often people forget that games are played.  Suda might have been better making this a Heavy Rain or Telltale style effort that's more like an interactive movie if they couldn't include competent genre gameplay in it.

@sergiodoom Number 2 will never happen -- it's Suda51. The ridiculousness of whatever's occurring makes the game enjoyable.

@LORD_HELLFIRE Way to badmouth a game you know nothing about.  Pretty girl in a cheerleader outfit with big boobs and a bunch of sex jokes must mean this game is for nerds and pervs, right?  Thanks for being judgemental of others too.

@vadicta Good call. That was a problem. Another problem I had was being knocked down to the floor a lot. Even with the upgrade.

@System4Ever To be honest, the QTE's ruin the game. I would enjoy it tons more without them.

@Senor_Kami Why do people keep comparing this to Bayonetta? I am not sure where you guys get those comparisons. Because is a japanese hack and slash? If anything it compares to No more Heroes. Suda's previous games. I agree the game could have been better.

@Senor_Kami I love Heavy Rain, mainly for the characters and the story, graphics, environment, and different sequences, I find the gameplay highly forgettable, and find myself to just remember scenes that weren't even playable, with Tell Tale I hate their gameplay with all the point and click type stuff; though the Lego games I really like, and with Walking Dead is like an evolved version that's a bit better, but I'm not a fan, with LC, the gameplay is alright, like 6.25/10, but I really like the characters and dialogue. Also I don't quite fully understand why Bayonetta is the thing EVERYONE compares LC to, to me Bayonetta was highly comparable to DMC, but I don't compare LC to Bayonetta at all :P

DarthLod

@Senor_Kami And then I wouldn't have bought it. It already has enough QTE's as it is. Something I frankly dislike.

 @fanaticsm

I rented it because I wanted to give it a try, but after playing it, I had to play bayonetta to forget this crappy game, Suda though that by having a hot cheerleader killing zombies they would sell millions of copies, well... guess what! some people care about gameplay.

sergiodoom

 @endorbr

I'm not against playing this game, the cheerleader outfit, the boobs, the zombie killing, the chainsaw... those things are great, just make a GOOD game that includes all these things!

@koospetoors Doesn't sound like it.  The game was loads of fun, and when I wasn't laughing I was doing a /facepalm.  Definitely, a game that didn't take itself seriously.  Gamers shouldn't either!  Which is saying something, as I don't really buy console games anymore.

acealexander702
acealexander702

@ExplicitMike  @Senor_Kami I do not understand the comparisons either, gameplay are totally different, though I completely compared Bayonetta to Devil May Cry. From what I see on forums is the fact that the lead character is a female, that's usually about it :P

ExplicitMike
ExplicitMike

@acealexander702  My theory is that people wanted a bayonetta style game. They thought LC was it. So now people use those comparisons.
