The Linux masters at Loki Entertainment Software have announced that it has signed an exclusive worldwide agreement with id Software to publish, package, and distribute Quake III Arena for Linux. The Linux version of the game is due on December 27.

"Quake III Arena, soon available for the PC, Linux and Macintosh, delivers the most intense, heart-pounding gameplay and stunning technical wizardry of any game on any platform, bar none," said Todd Hollenshead, CEO of id Software. "id Software went to great lengths to assure a near simultaneous multi-platform launch for Quake III Arena, assuring that no gamer will miss out on the action."

For those who already don't run Linux, Quake III Arena for Linux will also ship with a full version of SuSE Linux 6.3 in a limited-edition tin box for about US$49.95.
