Like Free Stuff? Check Out Free Games Friday for May 2, 2014

Free and fun.

Welcome back to Free Games Friday, our weekly feature looking at games, demos, and betas that will cost you the princely sum of exactly zero dollars to play and that we think are worth your time playing. This week, we're recommending a free shooter with an outstanding pedigree, a PC card game that's giving the likes of Magic and Hearthstone a run for their money, and a mobile version of the much-lauded Trials franchise. And we're also giving away some free stuff, so make sure to check out the video below.

Check out the links below to find all of the games mentioned in our show.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Phantoms

Trials Frontier

Origin are giving away Plants vs. Zombies in their 'On the house' section atm.

Yes, Dead Space has finally been removed...

I am thinking of giving Ghost Recon Phantoms a go.

Card Hunter was pretty fun for a while. It's pretty challenging and the story is kind of funny for a F2P, and it's unique enough to differentiate from other F2P games out there. But, the repetition got old after a while.

What lovely dubstep song is that playing in the background?

Do you think the market will get too saturated with free and cheap games to sustain AAA and itself?

I wrote a full review for the Tom Clancy game. It's pretty good and fun for a bit. It's free so it's worth a try

Wasn't there just a Gamestop article bashing the F2P of Trials Frontier?

Card Hunter looks interesting, but I don't really like having to play games in a browser.

@sebbysebbseb  Until you find out its the same as every other shooter and people survive 3 shots to the head.

@Jump0  There's a place for both. F2P games will likely never get the same kind of development and production values as AAA games. While they can be fun, you won't get the same experience.

@zeek_fox  There's some pressure to spend real money, which is mentioned in the video too.  If you don't mind taking breaks every once in a while, the game is still lots of fun :)

@Yomigaeru  I have a stigma about that stuff too, but every once and a while something sucks me in.
