Levine still trying to make BioShock Vita

Irrational Games creative director Ken Levine spoke with 2K and Sony about the project last week in hopes of getting companies to sign off.

Irrational Games cofounder and creative director Ken Levine is still working to get the long-awaited BioShock for the PlayStation Vita off the ground.

"I talked to both Sony and 2K about it yesterday. Trying to make a match," Levine said on Twitter.

He later clarified that his discussions with Sony and 2K were part of a larger effort to get both companies to sign off on the project.

BioShock for the PS Vita was announced in June 2011, though development on the game has yet to begin.

In December, Levine said the team at Irrational has an idea with a "lot of potential" for BioShock for the PS Vita. However, he cautioned gamers not to get too excited about the title, saying it would be possible only if the stars align.

I wish they'd focus on the 'Infinite' DLC we already fucking paid for.....

Sony's message to Vita owners: If you want good games to play on your Vita buy a PS4. lol

The only way I cans see it happening is if Sony bankroll it. If they were smart they would.

But even still not many people are taking advantage of the vita's hardware, maybe they would if the price were to drop by at least 25% or so

urgh, why do they need to make a system seller for the VITA?
I was perfectly happy without one.

Damn you Ken Levine!!!

To the people who argue that FPS games aren't for handhelds, can you explain why? I agree with you if you're talking about most of the old handhelds but I believe it is not the case with the Vita.
Mr. Levine can pull it off. I think he can become the guy who saved the Vita by showing its potential with a special exclusive. A Bioshock game no less.
There's more to play for here than profit and I believe this is what motivates him.

I used to think Half Life 2 was the most overrated game ever, until I played Bioshock Infinite.

Yet they didn't want to make it on the WiiU who's game touchscreen could've EASILY made switching between weapons and powerups Seamless.

Please focus on completing all of the Infinite DLC FIRST and making sure they're awesome!

Hell yeah. That's what the crappy Playstation Vita needs: Biocock Infishit. No crappy handheld consoles are complete without crappy handheld games.

WTF is the holdup then? Ken Levine (one of the top designers in the industry) actually WANTS to make this game for Vita?! A system that is embarrassingly short on AAA full-retail games? This should've been agreed upon/ deal-sealed a long time ago! Come on Sony, put at least SOME effort into the Vita!

I'm not opposed to this but frankly the only thing Irrational Games should be working on is System Shock 3 or a complete System Shock 1/2 remake. They had to remove a lot of desired features from the games because of technological limitations and with those included, especially System Shock 2 with todays graphics, it would make for an amazing game.

The bioshock games look pretty cool, serious question here; are they worth playing???

This would finally make me get a Vita as long as they make the game.

As long as it doesn't turn into a water downed version, I'll buy it. I don't want it to resemble AC3: Liberations

They still trying to push the, lol Vita? Only way they can move them is to throw one in the phony station 4, as a bundle.

This would be the final push to get me to buy a Vita. I'm sure I'm not alone.

Make it happen.

Edit: If it's original.

@gosushi

something to take into the future: Don't buy season passes. Or only buy them when the DLC is actually in sight.

@Halloll You played all the way through Biocock Infishit!? You've earned my sympathy.

@Halloll I personally disliked bioshock 1, bad shooting,, annoying enemies not scary just fast and over the top, and also wasn't a big fan of the interior. the beginning of the game I thought was awesome but then as soon as you go into rapture...yeh quite overrated

@Furwings From my experiences when I worked in the industry, I wonder whether it is actually a case of 2K asking Sony for some kind of security if the title doesn't sell (because of the smaller VITA owner base). This kind of thing sometimes happened when a studio was asked to make something for a system that wasn't doing as well.

EDIT: Take that with a pinch of salt though. It may have nothing to do with it.

@Furwings Sony has written it of as an Indie console already and a peripheral of the ps4. I simply dont care for Indies so fuck you Sony I even had to get the 3ds to play a tales game!!!

Itmeow

@kljohns2 Yes, 100% worth it. You can get the first two used for close to nothing and I think they released a bundle with both of them for new if you aren't into used games for a good price still.

@brgreen the VIta already has a great library and doubles the value of PS+

Soul Sacrifice, P4G alone have about 100+ hours of gameplay each.

@shingui5 @gosushi Yeah, I was a fool for thinking that a season pass would entitle me to DLC shortly after......smart-ass

@hadlee73 That was the first thought it came to my mind.

Infinity is a great game, and i wouldn't mind seeing it on the VITA, but it is not a genre that i would particularly be exited for in a handheld. Plus most people that were interested in the game most likely already have it, and the ones who don't have the option to purchase it for any other system which is better suited for FPS(in my experience).

krystyla

@Itmeow @kljohns2 Bioshock infinite looks great and general consensus is incredible as well but I just cant get into first person games. Maybe if i had 3 monitors and set them up with peripheral view but on one monitor it just looks weird

@gosushi @shingui5 He isn't saying you're not entitled to the DLC you paid for.  Rather that season passes remove some of the time pressure to release that content.

With the traditional model where you pay for the product when it is available, delays mean that the developer won't get their money as quickly and will need to cover operating expenses (loan repayments, rent, wages, etc) for that extra time out of their own pocket.  Even if the product will be successful, if they take too long they could run out of money.

With a season pass, they have the money up front, so this pressure isn't anywhere near as strong.  And since people have bought it upfront, it doesn't really matter how it reviews either ...

acelogan1989

@kljohns2 @Itmeow bioshock infinite are very different from previous bioshock games , it focused on shooting and action rather than exploration
