Fukuoka-based developer Level 5 is known for its efforts on Sony systems, like Dragon Quest VIII for the PlayStation 2, the upcoming Jeanne D'arc for the Sony PSP, or the recently announced Shirokishi Monogatari ("White Knight") for the PlayStation 3. However, the developer is branching out, as today it announced its first game for the Nintendo DS.
The game is titled Layton Kyouju no Fushigina Machi, which roughly translates as "Professor Layton's Wonder Town." Details are scant, but Level 5 is categorizing it as a "puzzle fantasy adventure" game. A teaser site for the game suggests that it incorporates elements of the edutainment titles so popular in Japan right now, requiring skills such as "reasoning, knowledge and creativity" to solve the game's puzzles.
Professor Layton's Wonder Town is set for release in Japan on February 15, 2007. It will be priced at 4,800 yen, or about $40. This game will mark Level 5's first foray onto the DS.
