Level 5 travels to Wonder Town

PS3 "White Knight" developer working on its first game for the DS, a puzzle-fantasy-adventure hybrid.

Fukuoka-based developer Level 5 is known for its efforts on Sony systems, like Dragon Quest VIII for the PlayStation 2, the upcoming Jeanne D'arc for the Sony PSP, or the recently announced Shirokishi Monogatari ("White Knight") for the PlayStation 3. However, the developer is branching out, as today it announced its first game for the Nintendo DS.

The game is titled Layton Kyouju no Fushigina Machi, which roughly translates as "Professor Layton's Wonder Town." Details are scant, but Level 5 is categorizing it as a "puzzle fantasy adventure" game. A teaser site for the game suggests that it incorporates elements of the edutainment titles so popular in Japan right now, requiring skills such as "reasoning, knowledge and creativity" to solve the game's puzzles.

Professor Layton's Wonder Town is set for release in Japan on February 15, 2007. It will be priced at 4,800 yen, or about $40. This game will mark Level 5's first foray onto the DS.

Is it just me or does Wonder Town sound like the name of a mental asylum? I mean i've been taken away by the nice men in the white coats quite a few times now...so I know mental asylums..

Yes! I've been waiting for level 5, to make a nintendo ds game for a long time. I've gotten sick of square enix giving us the same thing over and over, level 5 is being original i like theire games. I hope they also consider making dark cloud 3 on the Wii.

Sounds cool, but Jeanne D'arc and Shirokishi still sound cooler. They should make an RPG for the DS or something.

this is definately good news for NIntendo, maybe this is the beginning of seeing a lot of 3rd publishers on Nintendo consoles like the days of the SNES

More support for Nintendo from a 3rd party developer, it seems there just may be some hope involving company's (3rd party), bring new and original games to the DS, oh and maybe the Wii.

Level 5 have made great games recently, and from the trailer of White Knight I was really aastonished at what kind of detail and work they can put into their games. I really hope that we could see more games from this developers on the DS and the Wii.

I hope Level 5 still puts plenty of focus on White Knight Story and Joan of Arc.

If it has any slight similarities to the edutaining Brain Age games, Level 5 will most likely become really well known soon enough. If this happens, there will soon be a bandwagon for those kinds of puzzles, and that's not exactly something anyone could have predicted.

Level 5 sure is really working hard. If they make the right games for the right consoles, they have a chance to become a big developer like Capcom and others.

The True fantsy game is owned by MS so it will never be on any other console. On topic : I cant say that I like the new wave of edutaiment games so this title doesnt really sound that fun IMO.
