Leaked Battlefield Trailer was Six Months Old, E3 Will Have the "Real Deal"

Visceral Games VP Steve Papoutsis took to Twitter to clarify that the leaked trailer is an outdated build, and he has a lot more to show at E3.

A series of unintentional leaks resulting in a seven-minute trailer for Battlefield Hardline coming out today has generated a lot of excitement on GameSpot, but the VP and GM of developer Visceral Games, Steve Papoutsis, took to Twitter today to add some context: that trailers show outdated gameplay.

Papoutsis wrote, "Video that’s out there was for an internal meeting. It’s 6 months old now and team has been cranking since then. See the real deal at E3."

He further added, "Excited to see so much buzz for the old footage. Love it. Can’t wait to show you how much further the team has taken things." And, "We're pouring everything we've got into this & stoked to share details on June 9 - maybe even a little more before then if you want it."

We learned a lot about the game from today's leaked trailer, including details on four multiplayer modes, but Papoutsis assured one fan that there are "absolutely more modes in the works."

So, it looks like we're set to learn even more about the game and get a look at an even more polished work during next month's E3.

...And DICE will fix BF4 before working on DLC.

...And SimCity really DOES require a constant connection.

...And definitely cannot be converted to offline mode, because reasons.

Yeah... easy way to spot a lying EA affiliate - their mouth is open.

I think this game is going to surprise you guys.  The first thing I think of is that GTA Online players are still waiting for Rockstar to release co-op heist missions to their online multi-player.  The best part of the GTA V campaign was also the heist missions.  So it looks like Battlefield is going to enhance that experience and give you a 1st person version of it.

Which actually looks pretty cool.  Also seeing Adam Harrington made me want to play L.A. Noire again

jeez, people really get excited for battlfield hype videos.... they are all the same lots of explosions and no clip is more than 0.75 seconds long so you really arent watching any actual sustained gameplay..... get back to me when a beta is out

TERMINATOR-SSD
TERMINATOR-SSD

how is this Battlefield, god i hate EA so much..............

this should be a new IP, instead of tagging the Battlefield name into it. But NO that would be too much of a risk for EA.

Excalibus

@TERMINATOR-SSD Would it make a difference to you if it was just called Hardline instead of Battlefield: Hardline?

Usually I don't judge a game this early, but this one looks incredibly stupid. Without even getting into this game, they are making this game after the old one's barely been released and is still being patched up. Second, cops and robbers!!!???? That is the stupidest premise for a game that is called Battlefield....sigh, I really miss Bad Company.

They leaked it on purpose.  They were tired of people complaining abut BF4 not working.

ricku1967
ricku1967

@djpetitte @ricku1967 @daikkenaurora12 agreed, they had some major issues at launch, but now the game is running very good, at least on my PC anyway
, and i have everything set to max settings

@daikkenaurora12 BF4 isnt working? hmm, i have been playing it for at least 5 months with no issues at all on PC. having a blast playing it.

@hoyholyhoy @djpetitte @daikkenaurora12 @ricku1967 im not talking down console users, hell i am one (PS4, PS3) Its just some games are WAY better on PC than on consoles..BF4 being one of them..... in my opinion...besides..the OP of this thread never mentioned what system he was using it on in his original comment :)

@ricku1967 @daikkenaurora12

Ive been playing it since the beta release. I have about 250 hours on pc minimal issues. Nothing was game breaking and most everything has been fixed by now.

Watching the leaked trailer made me think of the good old Battlefield modding days with Desert Combat and whatnot. Pity that they're so against modding now.

thompsonhunt

@koospetoors That's one of the wishes I constantly have with Battlefield 4. Game is great, I love the engine and if people were able to get their hands on it there is no telling what would come out on the other end. Corporations like Microsoft and EA are old timers, and slowly but surely will burn.

Setzera

Just can't win this one.  If it's old, then their claim that they'll do nothing else until BF4 is fixed, was a complete lie.  If it's new, their claim is still busted because BF4 is still getting ditched quite fast.

@DomZeal As much you are right, but there is fair amount of BF in it as well! i mean vehicles/ chopper and gun play mechanics and BF weapon customisation. to me this is like BF mod, still less COD'ish than the BF3's close quarter DLC.

I'm interested to see more on this game and how it is progressing, but the "leaked" trailer footage definitely did not impress me, it looks way too much like a re-skinned BF with nothing of its own to offer.   It also makes me long for a new entry n the SWAT series... you know, cops and robbers with actual mechanics to back it up, not just BF3/4 with cop cars.

hystavito
hystavito

@nl_skipper You will probably never see anything like the old SWAT games ever again.  I posted a similar comment about this trailer, it's the same as a military setting, explosions all over, heavy weapons, airplane making an attack run on criminals heh.

I think this is sad.  A talented developer like Visceral goes from a unique franchise like Dead Space to the same generic first person shooter crap.  How many Battlefield games do we need?  Didn't EA learn from BF 4?  I don't necessarily want Dead Space 4, but a new IP from Visceral could've been inspiring and special.

Instead we can't more or less the same thing we've been playing for the past ten years.  Sorry, guys as much as a love the team at Visceral I'm going to have to pass here.

Shadowcreeper31
Shadowcreeper31

@berethor099 They are making a new Star Wars game, which I think is great. I hope they don't help develop Battlefront with DICE and I hope DICE doesn't help Visceral with the unanounced one either. That will keep the games distinct hopefully.

berethor099
berethor099

@Shadowcreeper31 @berethor099 I agree.  I'm also curious if the Star Wars game Amy Henning was hired to do is the same one Visceral is working on.

It's like Visceral also made the last Army of Two game (devil's cartel) and it sucked.  Why?  Because EA forced them to make a game that wasn't inspiring to them and just a "run through the motions" type of game.  Which is how this "NEW" battlefield is looking.

nl_skipper
nl_skipper

@berethor099  I definitely get that feeling, and it really does feel like typical EA, not listening to anyone, just following the meta-data that tells them FPS = win and BF is all they have now since MoH has failed...

I hate seeing what they do to their developers, it really is sad, you said it best.

TheSargeGuy

well... everybody wanted something new from battlefield here it is.

Kooken58

Nobody wants another BF, in fact, im sure when BF4 was announced many didn't want another BF then. Many of us PC gamers actually want developers to actually support the games that they have already released instead of jumping ship to the next game in the line up.

There use to be a time when the developers would support and fix the games they released and offered content to that game for years (content that was often free). On top of all that, supporting the mod community.

Spartan_418
Spartan_418

@Kooken58 "want developers to actually support the games that they have already released instead of jumping ship"

DICE isn't making this game, Visceral is. DICE is still working on fixing and supporting BF4 right now.

nl_skipper
nl_skipper

@Spartan_418 @Kooken58 The narrated trailer says Dice LA is involved with the MP, Visceral is doing the SP.  So not DICE's core team, but they are involved.

@Kooken58 That company is called Valve and they still do it.  Haven't charged us a cent since they released the Orange Box.
