Latest GTA Online patch aims to make life harder for cheaters

Small patch for GTA 5 multiplayer mode will hopefully smooth out the experience for players.

by

Rockstar launched GTA Online title update 1.09 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 over the weekend.

The patch, which will be automatically applied when players launch the game, offers "improved anti-cheat measures" and fixes "for several GTA$ and RP exploits" for GTA 5's multiplayer mode.

Title update 1.09 follows in the footsteps of previous title updates, which have previously served up new jobs, gameplay mode, and customisation options.

Last week Grand Theft Auto V became the fourth best-selling game in UK history.

If you've stopped playing GTA Online, will this crackdown on cheaters be enough to convince you to come back?

If anyone here has ever played GTA IV online, I would just like to point out that it had so much more of a replay value than this load of crap we play now. I love the ability to have your own car, fly planes, and obtain many different guns, but I would give it all up to have that GTA IV freemode experience again. No leveling up, none of this needing millions of dollars to have fun, no penalties for blowing up cars. God forbid we cause destruction, after all GTA is totally about playing by the rules. I wish they would make two freemodes, people can play the one that they have now, or if desired, they could play one where money isn't a thing, leveling doesn't matter, and guns are just laying on the ground. I swear they were onto something great in GTA IV. Like I said up at the top, I do love some of the new features, but it's a grind to make the game enjoyable (for me at least). I love customizing cars the way I want them, and being able to call it to me whenever, that stuff is awesome, but they should just make that available from the start. Isn't the point of a game to have fun?

Nag Nag Nag... all everyone does it whine!! I'm shutting your spoiled a$$es up on both cheating and boredom.

BOREDOM:

- Tired of doing missions to level up, indulge in Survivals, Creator (BETA), Races, fighting Cops, creating new activities
- Don't like the way people create races or deathmatches, create your own —show 'em how its done

- Having issues maintaing sessions with friends or crew members, create playlists to keep that from happening

- Waiting on Heists? Everyone's awaiting Heists, so calm your nuts

CHEATING:

There's a price to cheating. Although it does speed things along, it may result in a lull in your experience after you buy everything there is to buy, get all the weapons there is to get, and kill everyone effortlessly in a Jet or Tank. There's so many other things to do to kill time or have fun, but people always look for the easy way out. Within weeks of GTA Online's launch, people were quick to rank up and bank up. Before you know it there's little reason to play missions, let alone, survivals and other activities necessary to earn XP and $$. If you cheated, you cheated your own experience. You are to blame!

RATIONAL COMPLAINT:

One thing Rockstar's guilty of is its current imbalance of the player experience. GTA Online created an environment solely developed for bad conduct against one-another (or doucheness). The majority of activities online are versus based and only encourages enemy battle. Furthermore, there are not enough reasons to team up or cooperate (until Heists are available), and its here where the imbalance creates chaos. The patches for GTA Online punishes people for exercising the exact doucheness that is encouraged and that inevitably leads to resentment & dissent against Rockstar as a whole.

In the end, most of you are still ungratefullittle pricks. If you gave up the game, good! Less punks to pwn. Rockstar gives you the world yet everyone wants the universe! -_____-

If you're a rank 517 and you rage quit after I keep owning you non-stop back-to-back, as rank 115 ...think about why I earned my rank and you wasted yours. Can't wait for Heists!

i still race occasionally but even that is now a chore with all the poorly designed player created races coming up all the time.

why people want to race jumpsjumpsjumps and the 5 others just like it that come up constantly10 times in a row is beyond me.

i don't think rockstar paid enough attention to approving these player tracks before putting them into the game.

a straight line down the highway with junk in your way and ramps that throw you into signs is not a well designed track.

With how boring it is to level up in the game and how there's literally nothing to do but grind the same missions to "get to the fun part of the game", hell no. The cheating actually sped things up considerably and made the whole experience more fun. GTAO is just trash because of the lack of variety and how slow progression is stilted unless you buy into the scam of purchasing Rockstar Funbucks.

Dropped hard.

this is a game which allows you to do bank heists

and they won't allow hackers to do digital heists

its grand theft auto for god's sake

Fix the way in which players are punished for playing the game.  Someone keeps running me over with their car and I get punished for fighting back because their car blows up.  It would be better if it was like Saints Row where the car respawns. Oh, never mind, I forgot about the Shark Cards they are trying so hard to get us to buy.

The campaign is good but there's no cool areas, enterable buildings etc,

the online was cool when it came out, but there's shit all to do there now,

needless to say i was defs dissapointed within the first 10 minutes of playing, and within 4 months i cant bring myself to give a single shit about gta 5 anymore

Buck_Swaggler
Buck_Swaggler

Every time the "fix" exploits it just hurts the people who are legit and don't have billions, especially since those with the hacked money get to keep it.

Also, where the hell are the Hiests!?

The inability to simply join up with my crew members -- AND STAY IN-SESSION WITH THEM -- is what made me stop playing.  We'd end up doing endless back-to-back missions because dropping in/out of Freeroam mode is incredibly buggy and unreliable.

GT5 online was awesome.  I'm not palying it anymore, not because it is broken or not fun; but because I feel there is nothing interesting to do with my money.  I wanted mansions and houses in north; but there is nothing of that.

Image how worse this will become when it gets a PC release...

GTAO is boring without cheating. I dont know about you people but i refuse to spend months farming the same couple of shallow missions they got in the game just so i can afford some decent fucking upgrades for my car.

I really think they should test online game but they never did .

If they test GTA Online they should saw the problems in online game and patch them up before realse it .

As an additional note, I would have much rather  had coop, where my friends could join my game at any time and have their own house, cars and money and jump in and out as I allow them to.  That would have been 10x more fun and unlimited playability.

Wait, it's fourth? Then what's first? I swear I will cut my own face off with a razorblade if it turns out to be COD or Fifa.

Every time I tried doing a job it was always deathmatch. If want to play Deathmatch I will go play ANY other shooter out there. Could never get heist jobs. The online has been a big disappointment. Won't be going back.

Sorry, I played nicely back at launch then they lost my character, so I farmed some of the poorly designed missions back during the launch period, as did the 4 friends I played with....we bought everything, we did every mission, we got bored of the tedious "Online" death-match lobby & Heists never came... we moved on.

Keep the patches coming, all this shows is Rockstar while one of the best developers out there isn't ready to go "Online" yet..... Though, if you consider GTA: Online to be the freebie experiment included with GTA V it's supposed to be then you can't go far wrong, I had more enjoyment during my time in online than I have out of any other free game it has to be said.

It's amazing that a game as fun and addictive as GTA IV online morphed into this broken nonsense. They tried to do too much and make us play how they envisioned we wanted to play, rather than how we actually wanted to play.

And what is ""improved anti-cheat measures" and fixes "for several GTA$ and RP exploits"". Even their patch notes don't say. A few specifics from Rockstar might have made people happier. Show what you've done, don't just say that you have.

sirslimyscott

The online for this game is horrid. Maybe if they introduced a mode in which you couldn't be killed it'll be better, and please don't mention "Passive Mode" because frankly that mode is total bullshit.

EasyComeEasyGo

I already beat the game but I'm not doing my 2nd gameplay until the PC version is out and the GTAV online was buggy but still fun nonetheless.

neowarrior121

its way too late now online has lost all meaning to play, i like many millions of people have been given ridiculous amounts of gta money (for no reason whatsoever) to never want to play the game. theres little point playing when you have 66 million, yes i could give it to a second character and delete it so i dont own that money but then what. nobody would want to get rid of that money with me making the experience unfair when they bring out tanks and all sorts of vehicles making it impossible to win deathmatches and races as they have the upper hand. if rockstar wanted people back on the game you should simply wipe the slate clean and start all over again stopping the exploits as well.

Lacarus

If Rockstar didn't sell GTA$ for real life money, they wouldn't care one bit about fixing exploits in the game.

@RynoDragon084Just because you disagree with something it doesn't mean it is wrong or irrational. Your solutions for boredom may work for you (for now) but that definitely doesn't mean they are reasonable solutions for everyone else.

It also doesn't mean that if it doesn't work for them that they are "ungratefullittle pricks" but you thinking that certainly makes you come off as a judgmental one.

It's one thing to disagree, it's another to be seem like a judgmental douchebag towards those you disagree with. You should learn the difference and try to do more of the first thing rather than the second going forward.

@Pyrosa Create playlists to keep your team mates in with you. There are simply too many options for this many people to be complaining about.

@fredyellowoneAgreed, would of loved the ability to make those mansions with pools and backyards available to purchase...

@HapiJoel i dont know but it seems to be aim at leveling and getting money so its going to be stupid as that crap is hard enough as is. i mean come on work on making tha game fun were are the bank missions  and stuff like that ?

@spartanx169x...and it likely would have simply WORKED, unlike the lack of a functional "party" system in the current online game.

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@jekyll Well if they told us what they did specifically to stop cheating then it would be easier for someone to find a way of breaking it again.

If you are going to make a security system you don't make it public the specifics of the system. Hackers will always find an ingenious method of cracking it.

woodyfr

@SirSlimyScrotum Exactly, like in Red Dead Redemption. I still don't understand why you can use and buy tanks but not police cars.

Dannystaples14

@EasyComeEasyGo You are going to be waiting a long time I think. I honestly don't think they will be bringing it out any time soon. Unless I've missed something.

Lhomity

@Lacarus If Rockstar didn't sell GTA$ for real life money, GTA online would be fully P2P online, feature far less content, no free ongoing updates rolling out, and host migration occurring roughly 9-10 times per hour of play.

Toysoldier34
Toysoldier34

@Lacarus Having a buggy game hurts reputation which in turn hurts sales. Any decent developer will do what they can to patch their games and fix them.

Lacarus
Lacarus

@Lhomity @Lacarus No it wouldn't. It's an online multiplayer part of a major game. There's no difference (conceptwise) from GTA IV, The Last of Us, Saint's Row and any other game with a multiplayer part. The only reason they sell GTA$ it to earn more $.

Lacarus
Lacarus

@Toysoldier34 @Lacarus The exploits are not bugs, per say. They don't prevent the game from running smoothly. They don't spark performance issues. Exploiting gamers should hurt their reputation more. Why do you think online items cost more GTA$ than story items?

Lacarus
Lacarus

@Lhomity @Lacarus I mentioned any other game. Are you seriously telling no other game with a multiplayer is running free on dedicated servers? No game I know of on concole, with a singeplayer part is pay-to-play.

They are one of the most successful developers/publishers in the industry with a comparatively low online game roster. They should be able to manage their expenses on servers in that income alone. Red Dead Redemption didn't require any additional purchases, save for DLC, which will also appear for GTA Online, I assure you. The free additional content is something nobody asked for and the promised heists are exactly that, promised.

Lhomity
Lhomity

@Lacarus@Lhomity  Those other games you mentioned don't run dedicated servers with free content updates.

You're right, they're earning more money. But they aren't chilling on yachts with supermodels snorting cocaine. They're continually working to develop the online game, not to mention maintaining expensive servers.

Lacarus
Lacarus

@Toysoldier34 @Lacarus Yes, but the exploits shouldn't be prioritized as high as other bug fixes, as they're not ruining the game.

Toysoldier34
Toysoldier34

@Lacarus @Toysoldier34 I used the term bug as a general sweeping term for issues with the game that need to be addressed, poor wording but I am too tired to articulate my thoughts better.
