Ed Boon and company discuss the upcoming Mortal Kombat 5 and the futuristic FPS arcade game, The Grid.

Recently, The Realm of Mortal Kombat held a chat session with the developers of The Grid and the upcoming Mortal Kombat 5. According to the developers, work on Mortal Kombat 5 is already under way. The game will feature a completely new button system, and the characters will be enhanced with detailed models with smoother joints, hair, clothing, and more. The environments will also be more dynamic with "stuff like slanted floors and stairs," according to Ed Boon.

On the topic of a home conversion of The Grid, Boon said, "Most likely the PS2. I think a cool version could be made for Dreamcast with online play." Other team members felt that the game would probably be best served with a port to the Xbox console or with a PC version. Of course, the home version has not been confirmed by Midway at this time, but Tod Allen of The Grid development team mentioned that "There isn't a plan for an arcade sequel, although a home game will definitely have new features and might almost qualify as a sequel."
