Latest Call of Duty: Ghosts PC patch drops 6GB RAM requirement, adds 4K support

New Call of Duty patch also enables Broadcast Mode.

The latest patch for Call of Duty: Ghosts on the PC lowers the 6GB RAM requirement to 4GB, Infinity Ward has confirmed.

Official patch notes for the 400MB update will stop the game refusing to run on machines with less than 6GB RAM.

Infinity Ward also says the patch will also make the game run better on CPU's with fewer than four cores, add support for 4K textures, and offer performance improvements with AMD hardware.

The patch also adds an eSports option, containing Broadcast Mode and the option to play with the latest MLG rules in private matches.

Apparently COD Ghosts for PC requires Direct X 11 to run, but DX 11 is not supported for Windows 7....maybe they should make this problem a little more visible to consumers!

But..But..But 12yo kids really believed they needed 6Gigs of Ram and a very powerfull GFX. ;/

So they realized their game wasn't as technically impressive as they though?

lol i think this patch is just remove some scripts like

'if system memory < 6GB then run the game();

else lol..no run();'

and why 400MB cus it look so fancy than the patch file size 2KB. the game didn't really need that kinda spec requirement anyway.

@chatphon The 4K textures. That's what gives PC games such high install requirements are the textures.

Zerabp

@Doomerang @iMpLuX @chatphon This shouldn't be a surprise though as 99.9% of games can run on 4gig systems mostly due to the fact that there are still a large portion of PC gamers running a 32bit OS.

Doomerang
Doomerang

@iMpLuX @chatphon Not really. They were trying to pad up the requirements to try and make PC gamers think it's a next-gen game. Since people who data-dived into the game found that the game was perfectly playable on 4 gb of RAM but the game forced you to play with 6GB until this patch, for example, they obviously failed to convince everyone.

I think 4 gigs is still way too much considering how poor the game actually looks.

@Talavaj  Actually the game uses at most 2.4gb .  4gb is for facebook retards that refuse to close the browser before play!!

I know this article  is for the PC version. But I have to rant. I bought the digital download for the 360 that comes with the upgrade for XB1. But guess what? I CAN"T  PLAY IT OFFLINE. I learned after the fact I have to be connected to play the campaign. I hope they enjoy the money they got, because that is the LAST digital download I buy from MS or the COD people.

theKSMM
theKSMM

@spartanx169x That always-online requirement is Activision's alone, not Microsoft's.  My guess is that it may be eventually phased out with a patch after the game sales have dwindled to nil.

What self respecting PC gamer bought this game after they've been spitting in our face since MW2?

Psycold

@ivanchiz The way I see it the COD player is going to exist no matter what, so at least there is a place they can go where they don't ruin good games for everyone else.

This game would be amazing in 4k. Nat! The textures are so pish it would look like someone boked on the screen

Who takes the time to stare at their surroundings in Call of Duty?  RUN RUN SHOOT SHOOT.  Well, I guess the camping nuisances have the time to stare, but they deserve to suffer.

At least they dropped the minimum memory requirements.  Now maybe we can have more than 5 people in the infected game mode.  =x

This is the last time I ever buy a FPS on the computer.

they were like "You say Ghosts is no good? IT USES 6GB of ram ! EAT IT PEOPLE ! OUR GAME IS THE BEST !" now that they've become a little calm (!) say yeah sure 4gb is okay .

6 GB requirement for game that barely uses 3 GB

07wintert
07wintert

no game would never use 6gb and neither 4 unless it was 64bit coded. developers clearly can't be morons can they

iMpLuX
iMpLuX

@07wintert Most games nowadays are 64bit. In fact, this game only runs on 64bit machines. Those w/ 32bit Windows can't run this game.

But yes this game doesn't seem to want to use more than 4GB of RAM anyway. I think what developers are doing on their PC releases, is putting out an incredibly high PC requirement, getting us to think that this game is highly optimized for PC and is unbelievably gorgeous to have to require such high requirements. Ubisoft just did this too w/ AC4 saying you need a quad-core CPU at minimum when in fact the game runs just fine w/ a dual-core CPU.

It's like dangling the proverbial carrot in front of us trying to get us to bite thinking that they really do love PC when in fact all they're going to do is let us down at the end of the day cuz Eff PC Gamers.

07wintert
07wintert

@iMpLuX @07wintert  generally so you upgrade your graphics card every year or buy a new pc. i never actually knew they had stopped using 32 bit systems on pc games but then again have been using 64bit for 4 years.

6GB RAM for this POS? GTFO!

It also runs on Windows Vista. Unlike what the minimum requirements state.

Anigmar

Game won't look better just with 4k textures. Models, lighting... all that needs an upgrade. Still I've always felt CoD series is more about speed than quality. For better visual and audio experience I prefer BF3/4.

@Anigmar It's nice to see them do an after release update though. Textures have always been a weakness of COD.

demondogx

To translate it, they basicly added 6gb ram as a requirement to give the illusion that this game is graphicly better, while in reality they dident improve it one bit.

santinegrete
santinegrete

@demondogx  I honestly think they did it to cut experiment if the game could get less pirated, maybe they were assuming pirates were so cheap bastards that they have very basic gaming rigs.

demondogx
demondogx

@santinegrete @demondogx No, if they would really want to combat pirates as mutch as possible they would more likely go full online and always connected, ppl and especially on the PC have complained for ages now about the game looking the same for the last 5 years, instead of actually makeing a new engine and actually make the game better looking, they rather be cheap and just lie about it.
