Last Remnant collects DLC

Square Enix role-playing game to receive for-pay formations, free challenges and ancient ruins next month.

by

Square Enix has good news for gamers who plowed through the recently released Last Remnant and wish there were just a few remnants left. Over the course of the next month, the publisher will release four new downloadable content packs for its Unreal Engine 3-powered role-playing game.

On December 1, Xbox Live Gold members will be able to download two packs for free (Xbox Live Silver members will be able to download them December 8). The first pack--"Purgatory's Sins"--is a collection of challenging guild tasks that can only be accessed after progressing a certain amount of the way through the game. The other--"The Key to the Ancient Ruins"--unlocks a prominent gate within the game, allowing players to explore a new area.

A third add-on--"The Price of Lies"--will be released December 22 for Xbox Live Gold members (December 29 for Silver users). Like "Purgatory's Sins," this collection of the most difficult guild tasks in the game will only be accessible to players who have made sufficient progress. "The Price of Lies" also will be free.

Square Enix is also testing the waters of for-pay downloadable content. On December 15, all Xbox Live users will be able to purchase the "March to War Set," a collection of three new tactical battle formations. The trio will sell for 100 Microsoft points ($1.25).

nice, I'm getting them all. the pay-for dlc was pretty cheap which is cool, I can dig. ^^

i'm with you yunalescaFFX, it looks like gamespot had also been bought by microsoft just like sell out square-enix. well, it's not that it's not obvious anyways. monopolizing the game business won't be as easy as the os business though microsoft. you'll be sucked dry pretty soon just like the us economy.

Well what I'd like to know is why Gamespot got rid of the PS3 page for this game.... many of my less-knowledgeable gamers think the PS3 version got canceled because of this... lol maybe GS wants people to believe that too... wouldn't make sense really Anywayz I just want my Persona 4 and RE: Chain of Memories for this holiday... then I'll consider this

last I checked, all the reviewers didn't have anything great to say about this game, I'd be surprised if this DLC effort even turns out to be worth the money it took to produce, anyhow, I myself am holding off for Persona 4, too bad the X360 and PS3 and Wii aren't getting this one, but I guess it's more profitable to make it on the system which has a greater install base than all those combined

sweet nice to c were getting new stuff but if you install the game it runs really smoothly it just takes up alot of space

I think the game is fine. This sounds like a good idea though.

Square Enix will come out with a patch to fix the glitching, they are always great at supporting their products and catering to their fans...in the mean time, free DLC is always welcome!

Hummm i wonder if this will keep meh from waiting on the Ps3 version?

I hate getting DLC in little pieces, but if it's free, then I guess you can't complain too much.

I can't wait for more to do! I've installed the game to the hard drive and do not have any of the problems that people complain about. The texture popping is about the same as Gears 2 in my opinion yet no one seems to complain about it.

This game is way too buggy on the X360. I'm a RPG fan, but I'm not hardcore enough (and patience enough) to put up with poor technical performances that can hinder the enjoyment of a game. Waiting on the PS3 version.

If the game will run much smoother when its released on the ps3 il probably buy it. Nothing to do with this dlc though.

this game isnt as bad as everyone says. Gamespot also underrated Lost Odyssey that was a great game. but if your playing Last Remnant install it to the hard drive. took me 3 mins.

Im assuming that all of this will be on the ps3 version from the get go right? i mean if were gonna wait four months to get it then they should have the bugs worked out and the DLC ready to go too.

Maybe the DLC will make it better... or at the very least a mediocre game.

100 points is what Namco should have charged for Yoda and Darth Vader.

The 100-point pack contains Scatterswarm, Goblet, and Catapult formations, the same ones people who reserved at Gamestop got free. I imagine the reserve bonus at Amazon was probably the same pack. Interesting to see reserve-bonus content be made available to the general public...a good idea, I think. I guess the small cost makes up for you not reserving.

It's weird to be so vehement about something that is free. I could understand if they released a flawed game and demanded some ridiculous sum for this, but free content is hardly a reason to get peeved. Also, please don't blame a company for releasing some free stuff to try and recoup a sales flop. DLC is nothing more than a way to continue making money off your IP, over 11 million accounts for World of Warcraft pay monthly and they don't seem to be crying rivers about it. As for glitching, that takes longer, if they do a patch they'd need more than a couple of weeks for something that isn't critical to gameplay.

Wow, release a critical and user flop, then announce DLC. I've never felt more vindicated about a blog entry in my life. What Bethesda is doing is annoying, but THIS should be punished with flaying the feet.

cool, maybe they will include some more androgynous characters.I can't get enough of the sexually ambiguous garbage that comes out of this studio every year.

I wonder if the formations are different then the ones I got when I ordered my copy off of amazon but either way I cant argue with free DLC. Now I just have to start playing this game.

Darkstar_Sinada

Well, the fact they are still working on the title makes a patch that much more likely...and who complains about free DLC?

KrunkMastaX

They should release a patch to make the damn game run better and more smoothly. I heard from the review that it runs like crap.

I'll say the same thing I said about Fallout 3, a game I played and really enjoyed: Patch extremely buggy game first. THEN add extra content.

howabout dont release a broken game before you plan all these expansions to it. I predict fail.

Instead of releasing DLC, how about they patch up the game to make it run smoother and less choppy. As good as the game is graphically and story-wise. It bring me back to HORRENDOUS Lair-like nightmares when a game is released without a sufficient play-test.

Amazingsambo

how about they release DLC that will make the game run properly? that'd be fun

It's good that games are coming out with free things.

Nice that it'll be for free, quality of the content really won't matter then. Only a dollar for new formations is pretty cool to, but probably won't get those.
