Lara Croft raiding Wii

Eidos confirms a tweaked Tomb Raider: Anniversary that will take advantage of Wii Remote and Nunchuk controls.

With versions of Mortal Kombat, Prince of Persia, Resident Evil, and WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2008 all headed for the Wii, it seems major publishers have few reservations about overhauling established franchises to take advantage of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controller. Add one more to the list of familiar faces getting "Wii vamped" for Nintendo's new console, as Eidos today announced that its upcoming PC, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable game Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary will also be coming to the Wii.

The publisher promised to let gamers take control of its mascot heroine in "brand-new, unique ways" with the Wii controller, but didn't go into specifics. A release window for the Wii edition of the game will be announced later. As for the other versions, Eidos last month pegged a June 5 North American launch for the PC and PS2 versions, and the PSP edition is expected to follow soon thereafter.

This game is a MUST HAVE on Wii, its the playstations Best franchise on a nintendo game, and on top of that the best tombraider game, with brand new graphics and wii specific gameplay, This game is just as important as getting Mario galaxy for Wii! must have!

I was a big fan of the first Tomb Raider game on the PS1. I'm curious to see what this 're-imagining' will be like. I'm anxious to play it... on the Wii!

Sorry to break the news to you chumpy, I mean Kaos_Hybryd... but the last Tomb Raider Legends was also on Nintendo Gamecube (and it looked and played great). Not only that, but there have been good TR games on the DS, GBA and GBC as well. If the series wants to last another 10 plus years, it needs to branch out to the Wii to reach new fans... get over it and your supremacist self! In fact I wouldn't even mind if they ported the two Dreamcast Tomb Raiders to the Gamecube or Wii.

Good for Nintendo and all, but can they make it work? I mean, I am a "Wii supporter" but most PS2 to Wii ports so far have been dubbed with the "gimmicky control scheme" or "a control scheme tacked on at the last minute" labels. If they wanna keep porting, fine, but please actually WORK on these controls, don't you guys agree?

Nintendo has really reversed its fortunes in this generation with third-party publishers. There's no hesitation to bring their top franchises to the Wii. Games being made for the PS2 seem to be able to move to the Wii without as much sacrifice as those games that start on the PS3 or 360.

This could go one of two ways: It could turn out really great and all and play very interesting with the controls, or it could turn out quite bad for the same reason. Some time and effort need to go into these controls, and I would think all should go well.

"That's bull crap! Lara CRoft used to be one of Playstation's icons. I thought that Crystal Dynamics was finally getting something right with remaking the original on the predecessor to the original console. Eidos needs to get some balls and kepp it off the Wii. It will ruin the game. I'd rather it be on XBox than Nintendo." ^^^^ Dude its just a videogame. I don't understand all this "bloodline" mentalitty with videogames that some fanboys like you have. What is wrong with you and others who think likewise. Anyway looks like another game to slip into my Wii.

This may be the first time I pick up and play a Tomb Raider game. I tried TR2 back on the ol' PS, but after two hours of shooting rats, I gave up.

Allows control in a more uniquely sexy way ? I think they would sell more games if they made Lara Croft nude on Wii exclusive instead. Now that would really appeal to all gamers ......

Cool. I may rent this version instead of the PS2 version.

Spoiler Warning: A Wii is basically a glorified gamecube with funny controls. See also: Graphics suck but simple games are easy and fun to play...albeit shallow. Also:Boobs. Always making games better.

Na course they would. A typical case of stick to what you no. Funny thing is its took this long to get the frnchise almost rite so i guess there making good use of it and releasing the classic with new emproved game mechanics. Still il get it as i liked the last one altho i dono if il get it for the wii as i dont see it working all to well, i think there just jumping on the wii bandwagon without thinkin if its worth it or not.

I'm still surprised Lara's alive and kicking. The fact that most of the recent game have been terrible (except the last one which wasn't as bad), I'd think that Eidos would've decided to move on to other franchises by now.

Rect - I wouldn't say the situation with 3rd parties on the DS is any better today. Everything they do that isn't traditional, they wait until Nintendo has already done it. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that there hasn't been a blockbuster DS game for a while that wasn't published by Nintendo. I expect the same thing to happen to the Wii.

AceCometh

I'll take the safe bet and get it for my PS2.

Uh-huh... But it's already coming out for the biggest console of today's generation, PS2. But seriously (and without fanboyish jabs at one side or the other), although Wii is the stronger hardware, I do expect a PS2 version to better because developers already know how to make stuff look good on it. Now, if they do things right this could be an intresting play that should look on par with PS2 at the very least. Of course, I'm not holding my breath. I wouldn't be surprised if it is poorly done or misuses the interface for the sake of it. I'm pretty sure that despite its popularity, the Wii is still in that awkward phase where developers want to use it, but don't know how to balance its features and be smart with it. It's hasn't been as bad as what early DS saw, but rough ports almost never worth it.

This will be nothing more than the PS2 version with tacked-on Wii controls. Sounds like garbage to me. Hell, I guess the Wii owners need something to play though. :|

HXCDEW

Oh well it will be just a washed down port of the PS2 game. Only you'll probably move Lara by waving the ugly Wiimote. I hardly see how it's unique or fun. Just a damn gimick.

preacherchynabl

komdosina OH and dude ZELDA is a good game, as is RED STEEL. but both have been hit with the pig ugly stick. both games are blurry, washed out, jaggy ,messes in the graphics department ; if you think they look better then latest gen ps2 games; I will take it that a) you have not played the ps2 within the last year. or b) looking at those 2 WII games with NINTY COLOURED SPECTACLES.

preacherchynabl
preacherchynabl

komdosina Dude that is flaming me lolkomdosina I stand by that, any game going for a realistic look, looks better on PS2 to the WII. Nothing on the WII looks as good as GOD OF WAR 2 on PS2. Even C.O.D. 3 looked better on PS2 to on the WII , and GAMESPOT gave it GREAT on PS2( 8.2) compared to only GOOD on WII ( 7.2) OH! FYI I am not a WII hater I am an all format gamer, have been since the COMMODORE 64 days. I own a WII , 360, PS3( of this generation.) and running a WII- along side a game cube--XBOX1-- PS2 , the WII -comes off looking worse then all 3 of those last gen systems. EG.: FARCRY on xbox1 looks like a PC game. on WII it is a blurry mess. All I am , is not a blind ,rabid , ninty fan boy, and am calling it as I see it on my TV.

Hmmm... was going to pick this up on PS2 when it dropped, but I own a Wii, and I'm guessing the Wii version might just have the edge. Will have to wait and see now.

Dreski83

All the said games that are being "Wii vamped" are all betting on control schemes that haven't ever really been done... which in turn means if they hit, big success!! if they miss... well... you can imagine how that will end up *_*

Are people really that desperate to play an old title in a new and innovative way? I'm not bashing the Wii ... I just think the sales and marketing chaps have been a bit lazy here. Surely .. new console + new gameplay => new games ??

epormada

Havn't they learned these tweaked for Wii-mote old games for the Wii aren't selling! CoD for example has only sold like 220,000 copies and thats just one example all the rest have sold worse.

Why is that azizrulez, please how do you exactly know that notradamus. Seriously Wii haters get a life, ports like the Godfather prove that if done right you can still have a great game. Really at least some of you should have the decency to wait until its out before judging it. As for the moron who said PS2 games look better then the Wii, please they have nothing on games like SSX Blur, Sonic the Secret of the Rings, Red Steel, Legend of Zelda the Twilight Princess ect. Again people ranting about this game before its out are haters plain and simple. Wether third party port or exclusive I always give a game its until it is finished before I cast judgment. Maybe some of you should learn that patients.

"kuroinindato Wii only has crappy ports? weird, i had a blast on Sonic Wii and Spiderman 3 *BLACK SUIT* I won't even mention Tiger Wii which ya'll should just try before going any further. Of course I also enjoy some Ninty titles, hell... still unlocking all S-Ranks in the Mirror mode of Excite Truck!!! My point being that i probably won't even buy this new Lara game (never bought any) but it seems a clear sign to all the nay-sayers that GAMES DO COME ON THE WII which was supposed to be fad and\or a gimmick... and for that matter, some serious licenses too. Like i said i never been into Tomb Raider, don't even play Halo nor MGS and FF. Iz be more into Pro Evo and Fighting games usually cause those gots multiplayer... I didn't get a Wii expecting only new games and "innovation" in IPs, a "new way to play", that's how i saw it and so far it does deliver. Can't wait for MKA:Wii for instance, a perfect example of how to renew a franchise by re-thinking how it can be played and enjoyed by more than the usual user base. Hope it will do well, for sure I'll get mine on due date And regarding the intell leaked about this new Lara-Wii game i might even get it...the girl is foxy, in a "Doctor Jones" kinda way, lol. So with motion controls to steer her or the camera in the left hand and dealing with the wepons with the Wiimote ( + the extra trigger on the nunchuk) the gameplay could be handled properly... who knows. Where some see just "another last-gen port" I think they should also notice one of the PlayStation big selling franchises from day 1 (since the PS1 if i recall) going more and more friendly with Nintendo since the GameCube and hitting their new-gen platform before the "next-gen" PS3. I'm no hater but it just seems that while the wait for killer titles seems long till 2008-9 on PS3, more and more well know franchises come onto the Wii and i bet it's just a matter of time before 3rd parties get the gameplay right. Still, No More Heroes is the game to wait for: from the ground up baby, yeah ! for the Wiiiiiiiiiiiiin !!! * just hope Jack Thompson doesn't hear about that game, tho... he he * Peace." _______________________________________________________ You know, it's almost not even worth trying to tell the haters this stuff. Either they know it, and feign ignorance, or they're just ignorant. Either way, it's not going to soak through the thick skulls. Darwin would be thrilled to see how their herds thin eachother out, whenever a new Playstation launches. ;)

another mediocre port awaits us on the WII, dont get me wrong i bet the ps2 version is gonna be great but wii version will have loads of problems

Rather disappointing news to me. Don’t get me wrong. I think the Wii has its place but porting a game to that unique system and its unique user interface is though to do and I doubt Eidos is looking at doing it right… That would involve more time and effort than I think they’re willing to offer based upon some of their more recent announcements. (Developing for Next Gen cost and their lack of support for PS3 till 2008.)
