It's been a busy time for Marvel during this week’s New York Comic Con. The publisher kicked off the show by revealing new characters in the Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds roster, before making yet another surprise announcement during its official panel presentation yesterday.

T.Q. Jefferson with Marvel Games took to the stage to reveal Konami’s classic side-scrolling arcade title X-Men will soon be making its way to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade. Jefferson said the home console port will also be handled by Konami and will feature an online drop-in, drop-out co-op mode, as well as allow players to creature custom matchups. However, those hoping for more characters will be disappointed: It appears the new version will retain the original’s six character cap, which includes: Cyclops, Colossus, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, and Dazzler.

In the original beat 'em up title, the objective for players was to stop villain Magneto from destroying civilization by fighting their way through waves of supervillians including Pyro, Blob, Wendigo, The White Queen, and Mystique and continuing on to a rescue mission on Island M before the final battle on Magneto's base of Asteroid M.

Jefferson also revealed the PSN and XBLA version of X-Men will allow players to tweak the difficulty setting, which should come as a relief to most.

No date or release window for the title was given. Stay tuned to GameSpot for more information on X-Men.
