Konami reveals net decrease in financial results

Company to promote more Metal Gear at this year's E3.

Konami has published its financial results for the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2013, and highlights that it experienced a net decrease in revenue.

The Metal Gear brand is listed as a financial footnote on the fiscal year report.

According to the report, the company has suffered a 15 percent decrease in net revenue and a 42.8 percent decrease in net income year-over-year. Its Digital Entertainment business section--which manages the video games division--experienced a 17.1 percent decrease in net revenue year-over-year. Notable properties that were highlighted include the Dragon Collection, Pro Evolution Soccer/Winning Eleven, and Metal Gear series.

Konami stated that it may get out of its downturn because of the depreciation of the yen and the rise of stock prices. It also plans to diversify out to the smartphone and tablet market to reach more consumers. The company also stated that it will promote the Metal Gear series at this year's E3 2013, most likely showcasing more information on Metal Gear V.

Previously, Konami saw a 77.9 percent increase in net income and a 3 percent increase in year-over-year net revenue in the fiscal year period ending March 31, 2012. For more information, check out the full report here.

Just release MGS4 on 360.  I don't care if it's 10 discs, I will buy it.  Won't buy Revengence.  Would buy another Suikoden. So make it happen.  Do it.  Now.

hideo kojima was interested in having some part in the development of  future silent hill games hopfully something will be shown or announced in this regard during this years e3 and it will be interesting to see pes 2014 running on the new fox engine and last but not least the long awaited metal gear solid 5 will be shown in some gameplay form and to be honest i wish they would release the game  on next generation consoles as well  as current gen ones.

Well it should come as no surprise, besides MGS Konami hasn't made anything new or great in years. They were making Zone of Enders 3 which i thought would've been great and long overdue, then they canned it. If they think making games for mobile devices is the answer to their problems their terribly wrong. As with Nintendo it's time for Konami to come up with some fresh ideas and not just constant revamps of old franchises.

konami + kojima + Metal Gear series = BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

I remember the days of those gray boxes on the NES. If you see Konami and the gray box, you were pretty much assured that you were getting a great game. Sure, you had Top Gun and Adventures of Bayou Billy to disappoint, but the Konami of today is no more a resemblance of that Konami. Does anyone know if this was the result of many of their top developers starting Treasure? After the Genesis and SNES, I haven't played much of any Konami published games.

They need to bring Suikoden back to consoles.

they are going to be fine with metal gear. what they need is more ips

This isn't surprising.  Other than MGS, Konami hasn't made anything that excites me, or even gets my notice.  Diversifying to mobile and tablet platforms doesn't address their problem.  They need to bring back some old IPs, or develop some new ones if they hope to remain relevant.  MGS can only take them so far.

Well, seeing as the only thing keeping them afloat, and the only thing really pushing out is Metal Gear games, it's no surprise, as much as I do love Metal Gear as you can see with Old Snake being my avatar and all, I'd like to see another Silent Hill, or even new IP, do something Konami, and where's Castlevania:LoS2?

Still waiting for a sequel to Axelay, Konami. You know, that kick-ass overhead, Mode 7 shooter on the SNES way back when? You told us at the end of the game "See You in Axelay 2". Well?! Duke Nukem Forever has nothing on you!

Here's a  Financial Tip Konami.

Try bringing back old IP  back to concoles where Fans are still willing to buy like Suikoden & Castlevania. try going outside the MGS box, while you still have fans.

What. You don't say. Another Japanese company that milking another raunchies. Metal gear is one the few japense games I can even stomach these days. It's just sad to see these japense companies that are the verge of going under just grind out the same franchise over and over and over agian, or surprise¡ a reboot.

Cowboy-Bebop

They only know how to run MGS into the ground and make a profitable soccer game. No new MGS no profits.

I'm not surprised, as they've been keeping a pretty low profile lately. One of my favorite game companies and I hope they rebound from this.....will certainly get Lords of Shadow 2 when it comes out.

How about a good non-anime style Castlevania?  Or a new  Goemon?  Or Suikoden? Or Contra?

How about...anything besides MGS?

Konami : "New IP".  Say it with me.

They were supposed to bring back Contra... What happened to that?

When you're stuck making one title only, it must suck. Guess they can't make a good Castlevania game, might as well stick with what they already know.

Poinciana

How about a REAL Castlevania game or a Symphony of the Night sequel ? No God of War clone with the Castlevania name slapped in at the last moment.

I think a new suikoden on PS4 would help.  Suikoden 1 and 2 are some of my favorite rpgs.

fadersdream
fadersdream

@hammertime1080 I don't know if that would help.
Most of us who own both systems don't exactly love Metal Gear 4. It may actually hurt Kojima if MGS4 weren't protected by the "exclusive" rose-colored-glasses.

fadersdream

@Barrakas21 Is this in reply to anything or are you just cut-and-pasting arguments?

A nervous twitch that makes you reply the same way everytime someone talks about MGS?

snakebite6x6x6

@JRLennis

I hear ya.

I would love a proper Castlevania game. Less Lords of Shadow, more Symphony of the Night.

They don't need to make it full 3D either, a 2.5D (like Shadow Complex) game would be fine by me.

acealexander702

@servb0ts or even make new IP and make some new fans while they're at it, Konami is just sitting around from what it seems :/

@Cowboy-Bebop

all MG games are great, they have not had a MG game that has done bad, so it is no where near run down.

acealexander702
acealexander702

@Kaobasa no, no, MGS is always good, lol, but yeah, they need to do more than that no doubt, hopefully they're actually planning something in this hiatus and not just sitting around, I hope they're doing something big for the next gen consoles :P

WhiteStormy

@Maximaboi They could start with an HD collection of the PS2 games (Suikoden 3, 4, 5, and maybe Tactics).  Just no more spin-offs, I want Suikoden VI.

JBo796

@Mr_Big_Boss @wasaeem_13 agreed...they might be really pushing for more of their successful franchises..but this is far from what i would consider 'milking'.  The last true Metal Gear game was released at the beginning of this console generation.  Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed...THAT is milking a series...releasing pretty much the exact same game every year.  I have never felt that when i play a new metal gear game, that it is the same as the last one i played.  They take their time with them and do a good job.

WhiteStormy
WhiteStormy

@silvergol @WhiteStormy @Maximaboi They just need to get someone better to handle the conversion.  The MGS collection wasn't bad, but then again, MGS is Konami's perfect golden franchise.  It's silly to expect Suikoden to get the same level of care and attention.  If it did, the series wouldn't be dead like it is.
