Konami of Europe renamed, restructured

Japanese publisher's Euro arm now called Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH; will unify operations under a new single label.

Konami of Europe today announced that it is no longer. In its stead will be a new arm of the Japanese publisher, Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH, headquartered in the German financial center of Frankfurt am Main. The name change will take effect at the start of Konami's fiscal year, which ends today.

In a statement, Konami said that the name change was part of an overall internal restructuring. When complete, said restructuring will unify the subdivision's PC console, arcade, and mobile phone operations into a single corporate hierarchy. The company did not specify what exactly the restructuring would entail or whether or not any jobs would be cut.

Besides its Frankfurt HQ, Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has satellite offices in London, Paris, Stockholm, Madrid, and the Dutch city of Apeldoorn.

man, read the first posts and you'll know what GmbH means. There aren't so many posts and don't tell me you're that lazy to read them. And what's the prob with Konami headquarted in Germany?Just because it's a native english speaking country and everybody expected the headquarters in UK? Germany is a decentralized country with economically and demographically big cities around its frontiers and in its center. The country is widely connected and transportation is very easy.Considering also its central position, delivering products is much more easily managed.Wether France or Russia, UK and Scandinavia or Italy and the Balkans, the Baltic countries or Spain the products would approximately arrive at the same time and launch european-wise at the same day. Transporting and dividing shipment is esily made. And having 4 or 5 starting places (4 or 5 big cities around the frontier accordingly) is a big plus. Shipping from Germany to the rest of Europe (not worldwide, otherwise France and UK are good solutions for worldwide shipment) is the safest and most efficient way .

Although European, I readily admit not knowing much about the German business world, so any Germans out there feel free to correct me :) Germany is indeed in a very central position so makes sense from a logistical point-of-view. However, surely there are other European countries that would make more sense from a business perspective, such as places which have lower corporate tax rates and other incentives (hence Ireland's success rate in attracting multinationals over the last 10 years)? GmbH is the standard abbreviation used to specify what legal category Konami will fall under in Germany as a company (in the same way that "ltd." is used to denoted a "Limited" company). Not sure what is actually stands for though...

All those that say "Why Germany!?" Well, beleive it or not, Germany is the most economically advanced country in Europe. Even more so than France and Britain.

Konami Europe suplies Konami games to Australia also for some stupid reason. The last time I saw a Konami game on the shelves was back when MGS3 was released 6 months late. I hope they dont think a name change will fix up the company. Every other game company (with the exception of Nintendo) dosn't delay there games PAL release for months and then do a half assed job of selling it.

It costs more to develop on different consoles...... I don't really see why this change is necessary.....or how it's at all important.

They should try releasing their games like MGS on MULTIPLE consoles so maybe, just maybe, they`ll sell more.

Who cares where it is? It's not like "damn, now I can't visit because it's not in Sweden". I don't care where they are. As long as they don't do what EA does, translate games from english to our home languages. Man that couldn't suck more.

Ehm, well, you do realize that germany is the biggest market in europe? Its not really based on logistics, those HQ are information based, so there isn't much difference in cost based on logistics. There are probably some other favorable aspects that make germany interesting. Big Market, good education, fits in with the market style of the company. (Japan, Germany etc are corporate countries, while US/UK are liberal countries)

That's great, but where is MGS3 Subsistence?

I think Konami of Europe was sounded better... :( But it still Konami! :D

More than likely its based on logistics. Germany is right in the middle of Europe, so it's an ideal location for a company looking for a central European office. They would only need the branch offices noted above so they can cater to each country's unique cultures.

Nintendo also have their headquarters in Germany. Not entirely sure why, maybe it's cheaper?

Why would any game company be headquartered in GERMANY?! If I ran a gaming company, I would be headquartered in a far more favorable location...
