Konami not patching Xbox 360 Silent Hill

Silent Hill HD Collection will be patched on the PS3 but not the 360 due to "technical issues"; PS3 patch to fix frame rate issues and bugs.

Konami has announced a patch for its March-released Silent Hill HD Collection, following reported frame rate issues and audio synchronization issues.

If you own Silent Hill HD Collection for the 360, don't expect the frame rate issue to go away anytime soon.

However, the publisher will be releasing the patch only for the PlayStation 3 version of the collection, not the Xbox 360 version.

"Plans for an Xbox 360 title update have been cancelled due to technical issues and resources," the publisher said in a statement.

The PS3 patch will reportedly fix frame rate issues, audio-synching issues, and other bugs.

Konami has apologised to players who are experiencing these issues in the Xbox 360 version of the game, but says that it will continue to sell this version.

Players having problems with the Xbox 360 version of Silent Hill HD Collection have been advised to contact Konami support.

Well that's one way of handling it. "oh we soo sowwy you game bwoken but we no can fix it, suks tu be yu. We still sell game tho, we still sell bwoken game so we kan make mowe money" Doesn't really instill much consumer confidence in their company. Also what is the point of telling people to contact customer support. Say they are willing to issue refunds then wouldn't they also pull the game off of shelves, no point selling a game that you are gonna have to refund right out of the gate.

Bet it's due to having to pay Mircrosoft X amount of dollars to allow the patch to be on their network. And Konami not charging for the patch, nor wanting to charge for it.

Don't go multi-platform if you can't handle it / not going to support it (looking at you too Bethesda). This is pretty sad though, when any dev or publisher provides differential treatment to its customers based on platform access, it's bad news for gamers everywhere.

I played through Part 3 on 360, uninstalled, and hardly had any frame rate issues. A few audio sync hiccups here and there, but nothing to get bent over.

Are these the same "technical" issues that caused them to release a broken game (E.g. laziness)? I have the PS3 version, and the originals, but this pisses me off just on principle...

They probably ported the game from the PS2 and the tools they have don't work so well on the 360.

Stick to PS2/Xbox original versions :P

PS3 games are regularly updated - infact nowadays I dread buying any PS3 game because of the expected yawn inducing wait for lengthy updates/installs prior to actually getting to the game play. Although to be fair it seems that most developers release games in a piss-poor state these days regardless of the format.

I never like these HD collection, they always tend to end up being buggy and messy, the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection also end up like this too. Fortunately I'm glad I still got the originals on my PS2.

I love coming to these messages boards, it's all the same stuff "Microsoft sucks" "Sony is the best" "Xbox is an inferior platform", if people would stop being ignorant and get their facts straight before spewing out nonsense most would know that the Xbox 360 version was actually better than the PS3 version on release *GASP*.

The reason the PS3 version is getting patched is because it was nearly unplayable, huge frame-rate issues, hang ups on loading, odd Vsync issues, and horribly bad audio syncing problems in Silent Hill 3 (characters voices were head literally 1-2 seconds after the lips move).

I have both PS3 and Xbox 360 and the reasons I just stated were why I bought this game on Xbox. I had almost no hope that they would patch it at all, on either platform. While the Xbox version still has minor flaws (syncing isn't perfect in SH3 and SH2 slows down a bit in the fire scenes) that I would love to get patched I have had no real game breaking issues at all after about 3 playthroughs of each game (I read a comment earlier about someone not being able to finish SH2 because of a glitch, sorry but it might be your disc or what I consider "user error") so this doesn't matter to me all that much. Hopefully PS3 users will now have a playable product, it's unfortunate it took Konami so long to fix their mistake.

That's pretty suicidal in my opinion. Talk about spitting in the face of your fan base.

I feel the fury and the pain for 360 gamers, this is just wrong.

Actually if you read amazon, few xbox users even experienced frame rate issues on the 360 version, they had sound synching problems here and there but nothing like the ps3 version. Ps3 version wasn't selling so it was marked down below the 360 version quite a bit. Don't know what it is priced at at the moment.

Ha,ha,

Goes to show Xbox 360 players they bought a inferior platform.

If you want someone to blame, talk to your buddies at Microsoft, since they don't care about you the gamer which is typical of Microsoft.

This is a bad move, obviously, but honestly, I can understand. Xbox patches cost a lot, wasn't it something like $15,000?

Silent Hill 2 and 3 were developed for the PS2 and apparently the PS3 has the architecture to allow a patch (probably always did, but then they switched it off). The 360 doesn't. It's an entirely different system. It sounds to me like the only way to properly address the issue is to completely build a PS2 emulator for the 360. Building an emulator is the resource issue, getting permission from Sony would be the technical issue.

Still a dirty move if their Q&A revealed this issue and they decided to sell it anyway. The honourable thing to do is to note the issue on new boxes and reduce the price of the 360 version.

And this is why we can't trust them and buy games on release anymore. The "beta syndrome" (yeah I just pulled that out my ass) is gettting so out of hand that it now affects games that were released long ago without any problems...

What a shame and a pity, really

Wow, gotta love fanboyism.  I have both consoles myself.  in my opinion, both consoles are equel in their own way.  But since I have the original SH1 & 2 already, I don't need to worry about the known bug issues. :D

@David_Boreanaz That's good to hear. I'm playing SH2 on the 360 now, and loving every minute of it...about 10 hours in and no issues whatsoever...I hope it's not much worse in SH3.

 @suprsolider

 1) PS3 version was near unplayable at release and contained way more bugs than the Xbox version (which only had a couple small issues)

2) Microsoft is NOT responsible for 'technical and resource' issues on the side of the developers.  MS doesn't develope the Silent Hill games.  What you are suggesting is similar to blaming Gamestop because the game you bought there is full of bugs/crashes.

3) Re-read #1 and #2 and make sure you fully understand them before responding to this.

@suprsolider I wouldn't say this one instance makes Xbox an inferior system. It has its pros and cons, but Silent Hill was meant for the Playstation.

Well that excuse doesn't hold water as Silent Hill 3 was made on the original Xbox and was backwards compatible as well. Silent Hill 3 was not as I recall but 4 (The Room) was also on the Xbox (and backwards compatible).

 @Mega_Skrull

I remember the days when we played console AND PC games with, *gasp* No Internet.  This meant that developers of said games NEVER got to patch, so they HAD to deliver a working product/game.

In modern gaming, the line between RC (Retail Client) and Beta Client is paper thin and in most cases crosses over.

The old saying, "Give a man an inch, he'll take a mile" is exactly what happened to the game industry.  They went from no patching, to small patches (early internet) to where we are at now, AAA titles being released with game-breaking bugs, only to be hastily patched all at the expense of the gamers/customers who paid their hard-earned cash on a product they are ignorantly beta-testing.

I was about to chastise you and say that was what I wrote, then saw I typed the wrong number in. I had meant 2 and did say that 3 was not on the Xbox (contradicting myself there). And stupid new boards don't allow editing.
