Konami and VU Games team up on distribution deal

VU Games to handle Konami's PC game library in North America.

Konami Digital Entertainment America and Vivendi Universal Games today announced a distribution agreement that gives VUG exclusive rights to distribute Konami-developed/produced PC games in the US and Canada.

"VU Games' strong distribution network will help us reach a larger audience of PC gamers," said Geoff Mulligan, Konami America's chief operating officer.

This could be a great move for both companies: It gives Konami a much broader distribution channel into the PC retail market and gives VUG closer ties to popular Konami-held franchises including Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, and Castlevania. However, it's not clear yet if any games based on these franchises will be distributed under this new agreement, since the agreement applies only to PC-based titles.

The first game launched under the new agreement will be Konami's upcoming World Soccer Winning Eleven 7 International. Other titles due to be distributed under the agreement include Yu-Gi-Oh! Power of Chaos: Kaiba the Revenge, Apocalyptica, and Frogger's Adventures: The Rescue later this year.
