Kojima shows Metal Gear Solid 5 running on Vita Remote Play

"This is not 'TRANSFARRING' but Remote Play," says Kojima.

In his latest tease, Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima has shown the PlayStation 4 version of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes running on Vita via Remote Play.

"This is not 'TRANSFARRING' but Remote Play," said Kojima on Twitter, adding "by using PS4 as family cloud environment, you can play it outside. Finally!"

Transfarring, in case you've forgotten, was Kojima's term for transferring saves between consoles and handhelds, and has been used in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection.

After a series of reveals, which at one point in time had Kojima get up on stage at GDC with his face covered in bandages, it's finally transpired that Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will be a standalone prologue chapter to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Kojima has said that Ground Zeroes will bridge the gap between the series' traditional linear path and the more open structure of The Phantom Pain.

Last week the ESRB gave the game a rare "sexual violence" warning.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will be released for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on March 18.

So Kojima's using more down-to-earth phrases instead of making up new ones - good news. ;P

explain this to me,

is this using the PS4's processing power and streaming the footage to the vita? or are you actually playing a low res version of the game on the Vita's hardware?

Does the vita version also has exclusive content dlc?  Cause if you're not trying rip me off anymore more than you already are, then no deal.  Scumjima.

Hope this is a good prequel/side story/whatever. Being able to play it on the Vita will be nice.

I'm still annoyed that Sony pretty much disabled the remote play feature (the only reason I bought a Vita) on the PS3. It's made even worse when you think about how they promised several games would be compatible. Several games were compatible until they decided to push the update that killed remote play. Sony is in it for the cash grab as much as anyone else

Stop playing Vita Kojima and make Zone of the Enders 3 exclusive to ps4 already!

It's a cool/interesting feature but after trying OnLive's cloud streaming for games I'm just not sure this whole cloud technology is quite ready to make it a worthwhile experience if you actually care about games responding without any slight lag/delay, compression artifacts and choppiness.

@themc_7 The processing power is on the PS4, you're viewing and controlling the game/PS4 with the Vita.

@MOBS Both the Wii U and the PC can do remote play, the X1 could too if MS pulled their thumb out and patched it into smartglass

Since it's not a direct port, but via Remote Play, it has whatever exclusive dlcs the PS4 version has.

@sakaixx You can't really play wherever you go...you got to own a PS4 and also be in your house.

@MrFreehuggs We probably have the hackers or crackers to thank for that.  Sony is pretty heavy handed when it comes to someone mucking around with their product (remember Install other O/S?

Hopefully someone doesn't have a bright idea to use PS4 remote play in some strange way to reach a back door on the PS4 where they can upload stolen games! ;)

@MrFreehuggs what are you talkin about dude? I can play all my games on remote play via ps4. ps3 however was a let down. are you talking about ps3?

@amaneuvering Well for remote play it is a little different to cloud because you render the game on your PS4 and then send it to Vita, which due to connectivity issues is likely impossible outside of the house. So it will all be local.

But I do agree, I think this Playstation Now is going to stagnate and fall straight on its face. Then it might pop back up later when the internet of the world improves.

I don't feel confident for Sony's funds though. How much did they buy Gaikai for? Hundreds of millions. From an already money struggling company, if it fails they are going to be in a tricky spot for a long time yet again.

I think the chances of us getting cheap digital games on PSN has just dropped to zero for this gen.

@wasakawaka @MrFreehuggs nah i dont think sony would allow any type of loophole with remote play....on the other hand though an external hdd while on xbox not ps4 could be used to hack the system using game save files. which leads me to believe external hdd wont work how people think they will on x1

@Stebsis@Tiger_AliBecause the quality of games that were once ps exclusives get watered down once they get released multi console.  Its like any exclusive if its focused on a single console its chances are better it will be well polished upon release.  Look at the entire Tekken franchise 1- 5 DR all quality and 6(multi release on products other than sony) was trash.  Tekken Revolution is better than it and tag 2.  Besides Kojima owes his life to Sony and should boost their sales with some exclusives since he has already whored out his metal gear franchise.

@Stebsis @Tiger_Ali im a PS fanboy and i too hate exclusive people will by the system of there choice because of the controller not because of the exclusives.

@Dannystaples14 @amaneuvering you do realize that Sony has over 400 billion dollars in cash reserves. You can be sure they can invest. While Microsoft only has about 30 billion. Sony has more diverse products compare to Microsoft which relies heavily on software.

STFU , god damn Xbot Twit. The only thing that fell flat on its face was Microsuck at E3 2013. Tried to force DRM and FAILED . now PS4 sold more systems even without its best games and hasnt even launched in Japan yet, there you will REALLY get sh** on. Playstation Now will show you how always online entertainment is done, you ass.

@Dannystaples14@amaneuvering is it to much 5MB up for 2014?:D cammon lol i have very slow internet ( anyway for me its slow) in east european country where i live  its cost me about 20$ a month (cheapest what i can get:D) and its 10MB up

Stebsis
Stebsis

@Tiger_Ali@Stebsis Ok... not really sure if trolling or just stupid. Because Tekken is the same as Zone of the Enders, and they have same dev team? Making Tekken 6 multiplatform has nothing to do with why it's trash for you, how about giving giving some examples, what exactly made it worse because it was also on 360? It can't have anything to do with different design choises etc. that affect the game whole lot more than porting it to other consoles.?

@pspearman @gaming_paradox @Dannystaples14 @amaneuvering You do know what is cash reserves. Check their stock information so you can see the reserve money they have. Sony barely made a profit last year. For the past years Sony has ended on its revenue being even with its investments. That being said they make over 1.5 trillion dollars in revenue. Ms makes less than 22 billion dollars in revenue. As I said before sony has more diverse product who equally need investment. You see you don't want to make the stock investor nervous by stating that you invested billions in servers making you less profitable in that quarters. Sony's online has been doing just fine, well at least for me who only has a ps3. I can't speak for ps4 owners, but my point is online play is good. They do have the capital, but companies and investor want to see profit. There is no need for investments right now as you can be sure they are making a killing with the ps4 and in the recent future with playstation now they would want to invest on that.

pspearman
pspearman

@gaming_paradox @Dannystaples14 @amaneuvering You are joking right? 400 billion dollars? That would make them the richest company in the world based on pure capital which they are not.

Sony recently had to sell a number of their big offices to balance the books, a mega rich company they are not. They are not even in the same league as MS.

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@gaming_paradox @amaneuvering Is that why their network is so shit? Crashing all the time? Unstable online play a lot of the time?

If they are that loaded why don't think spend some cash fixing stuff? If what you say is true then Microsoft clearly know how to spend their cash and Sony don't.

Sony lost crap tonnes on each PS3, it didn't have online memberships and now they have spent many millions on Gaikai which has a high probability of being still born.

They can be the richest company on the planet but 100 million is still a hell of a lot of money to spend on something no one cares about or can't use because they don't have a great connection or has shit quality to start with.

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@MOBS Oh come on surely you can communicate to someone without calling them names?

Yes Microsoft had a rocky start but that is past tense now. Playstation Now might still be a great failure. Hell if OnLive is anything to go by it is on for a rough start as it is. Low latency, shit quality, monthly subscription. Only accessible if the network is up which if this is Sony is probably not likely since their network is the worst thing about them right now.

Why would I pay for shit quality games that I might play once a year?

mkeezay22

@Dannystaples14 what kind of connection do you have, I have played Onlive a bunch and rarely seen block artifacts and also played it above 720p.

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@sakaixx @amaneuvering Yes it is cheap. And for that 5mbps you end up with OnLive quality gaming with block artifacts all over the screen, low resolution (below 720p!) and low latency.

If you think a blurry, pixelated version of old games is the future all for a monthly subscription I must say you are so wrong.

mkeezay22
mkeezay22

@Dannystaples14@DMCx@amaneuvering I played Onlive fine without block artifacts and not at a low resolution either, and my connection isn't amazing.

I still remember playing metro 2033 on it a couple years ago and it worked great.

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@DMCx @amaneuvering 5 mbps is the MAXIMUM for my area. And for that speed you end up with OnLive, which has block artifacts all over the screen, low resolution, and crap latency.

Plus when I'm playing a game on my 5 mbps connection it take it ALL. And I do mean all of it. Simple internet surfing becomes slow and clunky.

I'm sure if you have fibre optic that is fine but a lot of us still don't.

West123
West123

@DMCx @Dannystaples14 @amaneuvering 10MB is fast the thing is you live in the sticks your faraway from the servers that mean high PING so no mater if you have a 35MB you can download a game "faster"  but the latency will stay the same so streaming games will still suck
