KOF XIII hits Japanese PS3, Xbox 360 Oct. 27

Console version of arcade fighting game to also bring in Billy Kane and three new stages.

The arcade version of The King of Fighters XIII came out last year with some degree of acclaim, going so far as to be featured in last September's Super Battle Opera tournament in Japan. Console gamers in Japan can now look forward to checking out the game when it hits October 27 this year, according to the recent announcement on SNK Playmore's website.

Billy Kane taking the term "flame wars" literally.

The developers also confirmed an exclusive character for the home versions: Fatal Fury villain Billy Kane. While not much information was shared on the official announcement on the company's website, the three-part-staff-wielding fighter from London will retain most of his classic moves like his "chou kaen senpuu kon" desperation move (translated as super fire wheel) based on the official screenshots of the game.

The console version will also include three new stages. The first is set in the interior of the Big Ben clock tower overlooking London, with cameos of Lily Kane, Wolfgang Krauser, and Laurence Blood in the background. The second is a nightclub that seems to be a 2011 version of the classic Pao Pao Cafe of Fatal Fury fame. The third and final stage is set on a grassy field littered with ruins, broken-down columns, and statues overlooking a clear blue sky.

The arcade version of KOF XIII features 31 playable characters, a revamped fighting system that features the Hyper Drive mode, drive cancels and Neo Max desperation moves, and highly detailed 2D graphics. For more information on the console version, check out GameSpot's latest preview of the game.

Looking forward to October. My budget for this game will be totally ready by then. A good number of fighting games coming out.

Mature's infinite was removed in version 1.1 (which the console version will be based on). And I'm pretty sure I have read somewhere that Raiden's drop kick charging time was extended, but I can not find any link to confirm it.

Also would be nice to see some Garou: MOTW chars in this such as Gato, Rock Howard, Kim Jae Hoon and Dong Hwan, Kushnood Butt/Marco Rodgriguez, Freeman (would make an awesome battke between Freeman and the Depowered Iori) and most of all Tizoc/The Griffon (would be awesome against Raiden).

K' is a very good character. Almost cheesy to be exact but he's in and judging by all the tournament play, Mr. Kof, Reynald, Kane217 etc all use him because of this fact. K' needs to be balanced as does Raiden. Really the dropkick is fair though seeing as how you must hold BOTH kicks for 16 seconds to do the full version and thats a huge disadvantage for that time. I'm glad Andy has been improved and is now a favorite of many as has Robert. Hwa Jai looks nice but nobody uses him. Chin has become beast. I'm eager to play this, just not eager to see K' after K' online (which I know is going to happen). This is a HUGE improvement over 12. It seems as if this is the game that 12 should've been. I'll b buying this day one even if online is screwed because the offline has been shown to be solid minus the infinites. Infinites like Mature's need to be removed. Elizabeth shocked me with her ability in this one as well. She's good as did Shen. I'm a Mai user with Kim every now and then and they both look solid in this one. I'm eager to see who else makes it in the console version. Here's hoping it's Li Xiang-Fei, Diana (highly unlikely buy would set my socks on fire with glee), May Lee, Alfred, Syo Kisaragi, Duck King, Oswald and Silver. And if they REALLY want to sweeten the deal, they should add Ron. Needless to say, this game will rock. Hope it gets advertised (but knowing Snkp, it wont).

I hoping this to be the true sequel to KOF11 and not another Dream Match. KOF12 was good but it didn't last, SNK really needs to start thinking of replay values for the game.

In other words anyone who stuck by the game knows there was no noticeable improvements with how the game played online after the patch. I do agree however that this game is looking far more better than KOFXII but lets be real thats not saying much. This game better play much better than the last patch that was released for KOFXII or else no one will give the next KOF game a second thought. I really want KOFXIII to be a great game but stating the online is based on the latest patch of KOFXII doesnt get my hopes up. In this day and age if a fighting game doesnt at least decent online its destined to fail. Arcades are dead unfortunately and online play is how most people now play fighting games. Im not going to lie if KOFXIII plays well online im sold and ill be playing it till the next KOF game is released. Cont. Another thing SNK has to do is not sell the game at a 59.99 dollar price point because they need to convince as many as they can to buy KOFXIII. What SNK really needs to do more than anything is listen to the KOF fanbase and give them what they want. In the end i really hope KOFXIII end up being a great game that plays GREAT online because the potentials there.

@shansss123 lol yea its called the pirated version which i heard is already making its rounds. Theres not enough of a fanbase for snk to warrant a PC release i mean think about it this way how many fighting games have been released on PC lately? One SFIV AE. On top of that svennson who works for capcom stated he cant wait till retail copies of PC games die. Now he wasnt talking about downloads instead physical copics which does make piracy worse. Lots of developers in genereal are fed of with all the piracy when it comes to PC games. Dont get me wrong it happens with console games but its not nearly as bad as PC games. We have no one to blame but all the people who pirate PC games. @mansnakehhh they also said a lot of things when KOFXII was released but we all know how that turned out. The patch for XII took far to long and barely fixed anything in terms of how the game played online. Not only that but almost no one was playing online by the time the KOFXII patch was released.

@TheTHCGamer Fear not, if everything they say is true, then this will be nothing like XII since as you probably know, the roster is much more complete, it has an actual story (and boss battle) and they said the online is based on the latest patch of XII which it fixed most of the problems it had at first, however, they are aiming for an improvement as well as more game modes and some a couple of tweaks in the gameplay, it's still too early to tell, but so far, it seems that this will be the KOF game we all have been waiting. And hopefully we will get some extra characters (Blue Mary please).

@drangel_jam i wont even rent it if the game isnt playable online. KOFXII was a 60 dollar demo gameplay for example moves list were incomplete. It only had 4 backgrounds and 5 stages to play offline. There were no boss fights and the online was the worst this gen this for a fighting game. MK played noticeably better online which says something. Last but not least roster was a disappointment for almost everyone. To me SNK seems far to focused on the new art style which is granted beautifully animate however when should graphics outweigh the gameplay? Yes im a KOF fan but im not some idiot that will accept anything SNK decides to give us. KOFXII was my most disappointing games this gen and there probably wasnt a fighting game i was looking more forward too. If SNK can fine tune the gameplay and make this game play the way it should online ill end up buying it. If this game ends up playing poor online just like almost every other SNK fighting game then im skipping out on this one. Ill wait a week to see what the KOF community has to say about the game and if they say good things then ill buy it. Theres no point in adding a new character (which they did for KOFXII) or extra stages if the game isnt polished.

What's funny about this is when I complained about the roster of XII, and also my wishes for additions to XIII, Billy Kane was always on the list. Him, Vanessa, and K' are my best fighters. 2 down, 1 to go!

drangel_jam

If the online mode isn't broken with lag I might give it a go. Otherwise, I won't bother. Maybe rent it.

YES!!! October will be epic, the true best figthing game is back and it seems it learned from XII mistakes, now all we need is a good online mode and why not a few more extra characters like Blue Mary, Angel or Vanessa.

neowolfgeo

Hey, I'll pay in an extra 10 bucks for Chris, Shermie, Yoshiro, Blue Mary, Kasumi, Vanessa and Ramon. Oh yeah, tuss in Angel as the cherry on top. Oh yeah, a 'World Heroes' team would be awesome- (Hanzo,Fuuma&Dragon) Amen :)

I can't wait. The publisher has already gone out of its way to tout the large number of modes in this game. I have no doubt they're trying to make up for KoF XII's lack of content. However, I don't care much for challenge modes and the like. I only need a training mode, arcade mode and a solid online mode. Given how KoF XIII looks and apparently plays, I think KoF XIII could be the best fighting game of the year if Atlus delivers decent netcode,

Why not the stages of XII? Come on, that should have been almost effortless to pass on this game! And Billy in these clothes... why... T_T SNK should have pulled all the stops on this one, considering it might be their last big game if all those rumors that they are in the red are true!!!

low res sprites, bad jagged players. Can't wait to not buy this crap. Can't believe I'm giving up on a franchise after being loyal to it for 17 years.
