Kirby dreams on Wii VC

Nintendo has once again updated its Virtual Console downloadable game service for the Wii with new titles, the company announced today. Joining the system's retro gaming library today are Kirby's Dream Course, Devil's Crush, and Shining Force.

Originally released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1994, Kirby's Dream Course is a fantasy-themed golf game that lets players putt the rotund pink mascot around maze-like levels, defeating enemies before holing out across 64 levels. Kirby's Dream Course sells for 800 Wii points ($8).

TurboGrafx-16-playing pinball wizards had a chance to pit their skills against the forces of evil in 1990's Devil's Crush. With a multiscreen playfield that featured skeletal warriors, demons, and sinister figures clad in colored robes, this successor to Alien Crush expands on that effort with new boss battle-style minigames. Devil's Crush sells for 600 Wii points ($6).

While it wasn't the first installment in Sega's long-running Shining series of games, 1992's Shining Force is the first title from the franchise to make it to the Wii. Released a year after Shining in the Darkness, Shining Force was already taking the series in a new direction. Instead of the original game's first-person dungeon crawling, Shining Force was a turn-based strategy role-playing game. In the game, players form parties of characters to team up and thwart the plans of the evil Dark Dragon, who has returned to threaten the world after 1,000 years of imprisonment in another dimension. Shining Force sells for 800 Wii points ($8).
