Kinect Sports Rivals Preseason available at Xbox One launch

Free trial featuring wake racing coming to next-generation console before full-game launch in 2014.

by

Microsoft will release Kinect Sports Rivals Preseason, a free "trial experience" for the full game, on November 22, the company announced today as reported by Polygon.

Kinect Sports Rivals, developed by Rare Ltd., was originally scheduled as an Xbox One launch title, but was delayed in July to spring 2014 for further polish.

The trial will feature wake racing, one of the final six activities included in the full game. Players who download Kinect Sports Rivals Preseason between November 22-30 will unlock various bonuses, including the "Founder" player title, a special in-game wetsuit, and a wake racer.

A Kinect Sports Rivals Hub, where players can track multiplayer challenges, will also be available to download on November 22.

I witnessed this game/demo crash an xbox one over the weekend in person before playing. Screen went to code, and the whole thing had to be reset... It made me even more curious about the rumors of issues with the OS etc.

Fuck yeah! Played the wave race game on the tour and it was fun as shit! Free is god in my book.

Looks like fun. I've only played Kinect once and had a great time with it. I do wanna give the Kinect sports games a try on the One, just don't feel like spending $50 on it brand new.

I felt the lack of a flagship Kinect 2.0 game at launch, which is what Kinect Sports Rivals was meant to be, was a real weak spot for the Xbox One, good to see that they're at least trying to salvage something with this move. However I'm still not certain whether, to fans of Kinect, it will be worth upgrading to Kinect 2.0 until well into 2014 though...

I've never even tried Kinect but I'm looking forward to the potential with the Kinect 2.0. I think this looks pretty fun and will be a good contrast to my BF4 gaming.

We will have 2 Xbox Ones. During Thanksgiving this will get some game time in the living room, along with Skype for the group calls to the family, that didn't make it.

The upstairs Xbox One will be non-stop COD or Battlefield by the nephews. Should be fun!

I played this at eurogamer expo and have to say two things... this game is great fun but think of this version as a demo... and the kinect 2.0 is a major improvement over the first one... while playing the wake racing i completely forgot that the kinect was even there, it was that responsive and smooth

Great!! I actually get to try my Kinect with a game on Day One. I hope they get the issues fix for some of the other games.

Can't they just get Sega to make Jet Set Radio Future II instead?

I wish Rare would stop making crappy Kinect games and start making some more games like Battletoads, Conker, Banjo, Jet Force Gemini, et al.

Hey remember when Rare made fun, clever games like Banjo Kazooie, Conker, etc. Well at least those dorky Mii knockoff Avatars are gone.

yaknow when u find out the size of that patch then u kinda know the deal.

like a small patch and well...u wouldnt expect a RROD part 2.

something on the two digit GB level and its going to be nuts. the OS would be a mess!

Guys I would like to say something different. I just played Uncharted 1 and I compared it to Uncharted 3 - and i like technically U1 more - what i mean by this - these 1st games on next gen are most likely the MOST technically we will see till 2020. I know artists make ,,better looking games" but that is just an ilusion on player, technically the 1st games are the best from GPU perspective. Just like DooM 3 looks technically better than Rage, not artistically.
Yeah and if now Xbox is not even able to run games on 1080p...thats just a deal breaker.
Ryse:- 900p / 30fps
COD:- 720p / 60fps
Dead Rising:- Dynamic from 720 - 900p / 30fps
Battlefield 4:- 720p 60fps
Only Forza runs 1080p / 60fps

I don't know why anybody is buying either early adopters always get screwed. When is the XBOX 360/ PS3 going out of production? PS2 went strong for years.

@AdderD
I hope 2-3 millions of people downloaded the Jet Set Radio game on XBL or PSN...its the only way Sega could be encouraged to make a sequel.

blackace

@wEEman33_IV They already made a Banjo game. A Conker's game is probably in the works. Kinect Sports was a decent game. Kinect Adventures wasn't that bad either.

@vox_populi It's like a 2GB patch. Most people will be getting their XB1 at the midnight launch anyways. Start the patch and go to bed. Get up in the morning and you'll be ready to play. PS4 also has a patch for all the missing features that aren't on the system out of the box.

RandyAU93
RandyAU93

@vox_populi Nobody has found proof of it yet. The only discussion Microsoft has made is that the day one patch should take most users "15-20 minutes" to download. That would make it a rather large patch, as a good high-speed connection can probably pull a couple of gigabytes in that amount of time.

@kbaily Remember when Playstation didn't make broken promises? I do it was 1994.

@awhite33 I'm going to cry "partial" shenanigans. Area One had Battlefield 4 running in 16-player multiplayer without a problem. Yes it was probably running in system link mode instead of Live, but the guts of the networking system, even between consoles being directly connected to one another, is still most likely Live.

Are they fixing things at the last minute? Sure, all three systems will have had day-one patches to fix things, add things or remove things, so it's no big deal.

racerxgundam
racerxgundam

@awhite33 if true...leads credence to a GB level type patch then.

hmmm no one hates M$ more than me...but man..there is NO WAY this can be true. they can't be this stupid. not after the RROD with the 360's. this would kill them bigtime. like the end of them in the console landscape.

@awhite33 "might", "if"... I suppose that turned up in your hunt for the 10gb day-1 patch proof?

Seems like more and more anonymous rumours being treated as facts, lately. 3 weeks to go, and still people can't stop with the BS.

Your crazy to think the PS4 can do REAL FULL 1080p fps next gen with all effects maxed. I have a Nvidia 770 GTX and it has problems with maxing 1080p when there is much action. NBA 2K fine.

I believe the MAIN reason MS didn't go all in on graphics is that unless it was going to cost $800 - 1K, it didn't have a chance @ 1080p 60 fps.

Hence, no XBOX 1080p. However 5 years from now true 1080p 60 fps with ALL games maxed will be possible at $400.

Yes, devs can cut corners to make 1080p.

@hustyparmen ur first paragraph...is kinda a muddled mess. not even sure what ur trying to say.

if that list is correct..oh man....the tech ho's are going to go all crazy against the xbox 1.

to be honest..i would argue that these specs are not as important as people make them out to be. but its yet another stone to throw at the xbox 1.

@awhite33 If you could provide a link to both numbers I'd appreciate it. A quick search found most stories connected to Microsoft's October announcement of the patch. They were asked by reporters to describe the size of the patch, and Microsoft gave a time instead of a file size, saying it should take "15-20 minutes" for most users. Even on a good day, I can't download 10GB in 15 minutes, so something ain't adding up.

malokevi
malokevi

@RandyAU93 @awhite33 A cursory search turns up no evidence. If it were true, or at least a publicized/rumoured number, evidence would be everywhere.

RandyAU93
RandyAU93

@iamllamapie @RandyAU93 @vox_populi I'm in a major city with a very fast Internet connection. I probably would be above-average when it comes to Xbox Live speeds (although speedtest.net gets me closer to 20Mbps, while running an HTML5-based tester on Xbox's IE app yields maybe 4-5 Mbps through Microsoft's servers).

@malokevi @RandyAU93 @awhite33 I think the online enabling may establish the BD/DVD region in which the console would be used. This actually could be smart, allowing players to be built to a universal spec, then connecting to the Internet long enough to establish its location and thus its settings. It's very possible that (among other things) is what the Xbox One D1 patch is doing too.

malokevi
malokevi

@RandyAU93 @malokevi @awhite33 It's a rather impressive list of things that the PS4 can't do without the patch. I was shocked to read it. Personally, I don't care, and I'm happily getting a day-1 PS4... but after all this mud slinging over day 1 patches, "interesting" is definitely an accurate descriptor.

RandyAU93
RandyAU93

@malokevi @RandyAU93 @awhite33 I have found where Sony describes the size of their day-one patch as 300 MB. It also describes what's in it ... part of the patch is to enable the system's BD/DVD player. Interesting that's not set to go out of the box; I don't mean it as bad or as a fault ... just that it's interesting.

@pspearman @awhite33 @racerxgundam to be honest....10 gb sounds way too nuts. but i dunno if its true or not. awhite tends to be good with the details. he ususlly says stuff that was reported somewhere in the interwebz, so i give it a CHANCE to be true..not saying it is.

i usually don't venture far from this hobo website so like i tend to be the last to know such things

pspearman

@awhite33 @racerxgundam Its not true, the only thing MS has ever said is that it will take 15-20 mins for most people, where this 10gb has come from I have no idea.

racerxgundam
racerxgundam

@awhite33 @racerxgundam you know what that tells me?

expect bugs day one. that size means that they are doing workarounds the policies rather than getting rid of them.

i guess major nelson was  right...the box is sooo hardwire with the policies it is difficult to take them out
