Kinect Sports Rivals delayed

Rare's motion controller-focused sports title now listed for spring 2014.

The next Kinect Sports title (and developer Rare's first Xbox One title) will not be out at launch for Microsoft's new console.

Fans of Kinect Sports will have to wait a while to get their motion control fix.

Kinect Sports Rivals will be out in spring 2014 instead of its intended holiday 2013 release. According to a Microsoft representative (via Polygon), the title was delayed so that it could be polished by Rare. A preview build for the game will be playable for the first time at Penny Arcade Expo Prime and Gamescom this August.

Kinect Sports Rivals features six minigames that require motion control: climbing, wake racing, soccer, bowling, tennis, and target shooting.

"Damn, I was looking forward to this game too." Said no one ever.

Why, can they still not figure out how to control a game properly with Kinect?

that's ok we will be busy playing the likes of killer instinct, crimson dragon, quantum break, ryse halo and titan fall anyway. sure people will pick up kinect sports later because i mean that is the kind of game that is fun when there is a group of you playing

Oh Rare, it's so sad to see you reduced to this.  Meanwhile Double Helix is making the game they could've made six years ago.

Even more disappointing, even if the Avatars were Mii knockoffs, at least they were fun and cute, now we got these creepy action figure wannabes because Kinect reads our bodies. Sorry that still creeps me out.

I remember a lifetime ago playing Wii Sports Tennis and Bowling and thinking what amazing potential motion detection had for gaming. And here I am however many years later, still waiting to see any further development of it.

Can't wait to play this for 10 minutes and then never touch it again like any other gimmicky sport games package throughout history. Kinect 2.0 will remain a useless $100 addition to the Xbone unless they get some kind of VR to compliment it.

Don't want anything to do with the Kinect. If they sell a version without the Kinect, then I will get one.

But since I doubt they will do that (even in light of so many Xbox people asking for it), I will have to change consoles for the first since 2001.

I'm sure 15 people were disappointed by this news, but they'll get over it.

um.. does anyone REALLY care?

...I played the last one for about a minute before putting it back in the box - provided with the new xbox because the last one blew up.

Spring 2014 they will have a xbox one console without a Kinect, They will also have their regular Kinect console, only this time it will be bundled with KINECT sports. It only makes sense, think about it.

Why bother polishing a turd? This is another Kinect shovelware, kick it out the door and move on like all other games for that peripheral have been

I'm honestly a little disappointed. To show off the prowess of the Kinect, you NEED a Kinect launch title, and I don't mean some shitty shovelware title, I mean something good that's MADE for the Kinect & published by Microsoft Studios.

Will there & can there be something else in store before the next two game shows? Sure... but I was really looking forward to this one because as much as everyone hates Rare now, they actually did Kinect Sports good. Volleyball was excellent, Bowling was perfect, and even Golf was much better than anything Tiger Woods could vomit up.

So is this the power of the Kinect?

Kind of a shame, I was thinking of picking up a copy at launch to show what the Kinect can do to family and friends. Seems like a missed chance not to have this at launch as that title to show off the motion controls in a meaningful way (really should of been boxed with console but that'd be outrageous).

The delay has a reason!

They decided to add a virtual living room spy game where you try to catch your family members in compromising positions on the couch with time-lapse Kinect 2.0 photography.  They will be doing a tie in with CSI next season, seasons 1-7 now available on XBL!

How can you delay a launch title for your own console?

This game is important to show the features of new kinect.  Its important that the game is polished and done right.

I'm not against Kinect Either. I'm a die hard Dance Central fan. Other than Child of Eden, can't really say I was into any of the other games. Well, I guess whatever floats your boat, stick with it.

CeZar_87

@blaze_boy30 I was looking forward to it... Not everybody is against Kinect. I personally see a lot of potential in it & the trailer for this game sold me on it. I just want them to get it done right before they release it.

DawgByte2
DawgByte2

@dmastor Here's something I've been pondering... why do they keep calling it Kinect 2.0, and not just Kinect 2? Are they planning on releasing enough firmware updates to upgrade it Kinect 2.1, 2.2 & so forth up to Kinect 2.9? Hmmmm....

knucklez84
knucklez84

@dmastor let them polish it up man you dont want a half done game. it gotta be the best homie

DawgByte2
DawgByte2

@BelaidKL Yes, actually... once shown off in gameplay action, you'll see that this will be 10x the game Kinect Sports was. Not to mention they're bringing back the "best of" sports from the original, combined with the power of Kinect 2 (ie: Bowling), I was really lookin' forward to it.

knucklez84

@BrutalPandaX2 maybe because the dont want to rush it? this has happened to all systems what kind of dumb question is this

@DawgByte2 @dmastor ding ding ding! Most likely yes. The new Kinect can't do illumiroom so they'll have to update sometime, if not charge for 3.0

93ChevyNut

@knucklez84 @BrutalPandaX2 You must work for M$.  BrutalPanda has a very legitimate question.  Do you think the Wii would have sold so well if it didn't come with Wii Sports?  Maybe you should use your brain instead of spending all your time insulting everyone else.
