Kinect sequels dated

Gamescom 2011: Dance Central 2 and Kinect Sports Season Two drop October 25, Kinectimals: Now With Bears emerges from hibernation October 11.

Core gamers may be looking forward to the holiday season's high-profile Xbox 360 exclusives like Gears of War 3 and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, but Microsoft isn't forgetting about its contingent of Kinect-loving casual players. The hardware maker today dated a trio of follow-ups to some of the biggest titles of last year's Kinect launch, specifically Dance Central 2, Kinect Sports Season Two, and Kinectimals: Now With Bears.

Hit the dance floor again this October.

The Harmonix rhythm game Dance Central 2 is now set for release October 25 in North America, with European gamers getting their groove on October 21, and October 27 in Japan. In keeping with the Rock Band developer's tradition, all original Dance Central songs can be imported into Dance Central 2. Additionally, the game will sport a new campaign mode, as well as simultaneous multiplayer dancing.

For gamers who would rather hit the gridiron than the dance floor, Kinect Sports Season Two will also see a North American launch on October 27, with Asia and Australia following October 27 and Europe receiving the game October 28. The second Kinect Sports game will expand on the array of sports given the motion-sensing camera treatment with skiing, baseball, golf, darts, tennis, and football all included in the new game.

Finally, the Kinectimals: Now With Bears follow-up to last year's tiger-raising game will debut globally on October 11. Kinectimals: Now With Bears will be available as a $50 stand-alone retail game or a $15 downloadable add-on for the original game. As the name suggests, the expansion's big attraction is the ursine additions, including a black bear, a grizzly bear, a polar bear, a panda bear, and more. The game will also feature a new guide and a new plot in which the player and a cub explore Bear Island in the footsteps of a famous explorer in search of buried treasure.

@warhawk-geeby Look at it this way. It's still not a year old. It probably doesn't even have 40 games. Probably not even 30. Yeah, a lot are like wii games but I don't believe we've had enough time to fully take advantage or understand how to implement the technology. Hopefully, after the big fall update, we'll figure it out. Right now, though, the Kinect looks to be doing well. It already has a number of 7.0-8.5 games. Child of Eden and Dance Central are amazing and fun, for sure. Rise of Nightmares looks absolutely terrifying. Steel Battalion has a chance to be amazing. Project Draco, Codename D.

@AncientDozer I was only referring to the games for kinect, not the console as a whole. You have to admit that it doesn't have a terribly strong library.. It's like going to a restaurant and being promised 'the soup of the day' but then being given a bowl of water with a leaf floating in it. The kinect is a great piece of kit, but so far it's not worth buying.

@ Phil-teh-Pirate What makes something hardcore, then? Is it guns? Is it violence? Adult themes? The budget? How much went into a game? What? Is Sim City or Tropico not hardcore but Command and Conquer and Starcraft are? I would assume DDR is hardcore considering all that is involved and how intense the play can be. Why not Dance Central? I think the words "hardcore" and "casual" have ultimately lost meaning from a.) overuse and b.) misuse. But that's just me. The idea that the kinect is any less because it doesn't have shooters, first or third, and RPGs seems silly to me. But if you need all that, that upcoming nightmare game may just be the answer to your prayers.

@AncientDozer I can agree with that, some people unwind in different ways. These still don't make them hardcore titles in the same sense that Resistence 3, Fable 3, Uncharted 3, Gears of War 3, Halo 3 (list other 3's here - you get my point) are. When there's a game that uses the Kinect to its full capabilities and can be considered a "hardcore" game for players, not a dance game or rhythm game (which many would not class as a hardcore title), they are lacking on one of their promises.

@Phil-teh-Pirate Why not? People will inevitably come home and play DDR or Rock band. They'll play Angry Birds or Farmville. They'll play anything. So I don't see how they can't go to work and come back and do Dance Central or Child of Eden to Unwind. Or Kinectimals with their child and enjoy quality family time (because God of War and Gears of War with a 3-8 is not exactly brilliant or quality family time). @warhawk-geeby Except it's not. I don't know what your problem is. No one is forcing you to play kinect or buy it. Trust me, there is a HUGE and varied library of 360 games that are out there at this very moment. I assure you, it's like 6 years worth of games. If that doesn't cut it, there's always Steel Battalion or that new nightmare game. That thing is creepy as hell.

The kinect literally can't get rammed down my throat any more. MAKE DECENT GAMES MICROSOFT!! Man alive. It annoys me because the thing does actually have soooooo much potential. When this was announced at E3 I genuinly thought it would change gaming forever.. Can someone at Microsoft please get a grip?!

@AncientDozer A hardcore game with Kinect features is entirely different to a hardcore kinect game. The entire gameplay should revolve around subtle and good use of the hardware to complete the gaming experience, not be a tacked on end point to say "well you can use a controller but you dont have to". Fable The Journey might be the closest the Kinect will ever get to a hardcore kinect game. Thats like saying Killzone 3 is a hardcore move game because it has move features in it. Dance Central is a party game, a one off. Try coming home from work after an 8 hour shift and "playing" that to unwind, thats just not going to happen.

@Phil-teh-Pirate Uh. Child of Eden not good enough? Dance Central is pretty good, actually. I don't know if you saw the screens for Steel Battalion but it looks decent. There is also kinect functionality in Ghost Recon, Forza 4, and Mass Effect which strike me as pretty hardcore.

At the time of this post, as a demonstration of ultimate laze, I am using my kinect while lying down. On my bed. It recognized me. Went from ESPN to netflix.

@CrashOV Oh, I'm sorry. How old is the Kinect? Not even a year old? Probably fewer than a hundred games. I wonder if we even hit 30 yet. Yes, I know, we have mostly kids games. We also have Dance Central and Child of Eden, two of the most amazing games I've ever played. We also have functionality in Forza 4, Ghost Recon, possibly Halo, and Mass Effect 3. Steel Battalion looks to be a hardcore game with giant robots with kinect functionality. Nevermind that you can actually use it for interface interaction. So for me? Not a waste. And the results are hardly weak (how long did it take for the major consoles to get more than a handful of worthwhile exclusives? Here's a hint, a while).

I'm slowly starting to realise that buying the kinect was a bad investment. Such impressive technology, such weak results.

Really! My Kinnect is collecting dust, but at least I can anticipate sequals to games I already played instead of somthing frest. "WHERE'S THE RICH STUFF, MIKEY, THE RICH STUFF!" Sigh, still a wait to justify my purchase.

I'm totally getting Dance Central 2 and Kinect Sports Season Two. Both of the first two games were a lot of fun to play, even if they aren't "hardcore" games. I don't really care about Kinectimals at all, but I'm almost tempted to buy it just because of the title, "Now With Bears", that's hilarious ^_^

Glad that Now with Bears is also DLC for the first game. Yes Im glaring at you Capcom for not making the extra stuff in UMvC3 DLC for the original.

Great. Looking forward to Dance Central in particular. The first one was one of my favorite games last year. It was good to see that Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor is still in production, but I was hoping Microsoft would show more of Project Draco at Gamescom. Oh well. With Dance Central 2, Heavy Armor, Gunstringer and other games, Kinect's lineup looks good regardless.

lol people still care about those? Anyway, next year I bet we'll see Kinectimals: Now with bats or something like that :D
