Kindgom Come: Deliverance smashes Kickstarter Goal, coming to PC, Mac, Linux, and (possibly) next-gen

Medieval RPG raises over £300,000 in less than two days.

Medieval (but with no fantasy) RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance has sailed past its Kickstarter goal in less than two days.

The game, which hopes to make it to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 alongside PC, Mac, and Linux, asked for £300,000 to be funded, but is currently sitting at £332,558. The funding period runs until February 20, so it's likely that the game will accrue a sizable chunk of cash.

Backers who invest £15 or more will get access to the game when it's out, with additional donation tiers also doling out pre-release play and other goodies.

Kingdom Come is scheduled to be released in three acts, with the first released in December 2015--though things could change depending on how development progresses.

GameSpot's Kevin VanOrd sounded quite excited after having a look at the game earlier this week.

Cryengine is such an incredible piece of technology. Funny, though, that everyone BUT Crytek uses it to create amazing games. Ryse is an utter joke compared to this game.

On another note, I always wanted Bethesda to swallow their pride and just use Cryengine to make an Elder Scrolls game. Looks like this is as close as we'll get. Looks fantastic.

And the first stretchgoal is met at 400,000 British pounds.... :)

I couldn't be happier that his campaign is so successful. I was among the first 100 backers... :)

New consoles have so few games they have to lie about games only confirned for other platforms? Would like to see a console game only kickstarter and how few 12 year olds will fund it. I demand he get fired for this or Kevin sit on his head for an hour.

I havn't read in on the game so apologies in advance; but I'm a bit skeptical about how a game which only just now got a 300 grand backing could already have such high quality pre alpha footage. What's the catch? If the game truely is such high quality then where did the huge initial funds come from? Were there other investors?

You gotta be fucking kidding me! Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a PC game thus far, and may never see the light of day on consoles and yet GameSpot delusional editors keep labeling this a PS4/X1 game. I guess Microsoft and Sony must be paying you guys a lot of cash to promote both consoles like this. Get your shit together and start doing real journalism.

I think the most important thing to point out is that the game is also coming to other platforms not mentioned in the headline. I am surprised no one else in the comments section has caught on to this.

Perhaps they have not read the article where it states it clearly.

The corrected title is:

"Linux and Mac RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance smashes Kickstarter goal"

That's actually kind of unusual -- when was the last time we got a Linux RPG?

Major Kickstarter backers are On pc Title is misleading as always Gamespot really hate PC and wii u, if it was only on consoles it would not generate that money in 2 day

That should help convince their major investor people are keen; nice. Really want this one to see the light of day.

It's great to see this PC/Mac/Linux game achieve it's funding so quickly.  I think the whole idea of the game is refreshing, so I say good luck to them.

A full game for all those platforms and they ask 300k? This is funny, I only recently saw the video and backlash of the Smosh Youtube Channel where they asked 250k for a mobile game...

@gamingfriendly Sorry about that, we know that tracked game updates aren't working as intended and they're on the list of "Things that need to be fixed".

@UpInFlames The game's Kickstarter pretty clearly states they plan to bring the game to Xbox One and PS4. However, it was weird that the title focused solely on those consoles. It has been changed.

@UpInFlames Yeah, I mentioned it to the senior news editor and we changed it. :P

nevermind I just read this;

"After seeing our trailer, you might ask: “why are we here? This is a big, expensive game that’s sure to cost a lot of money, right? Does no major publisher want it? This sounds suspicious.” The answer to those questions might surprise you.

Warhorse is a comparatively small studio. We now have about thirty people, and it took us more than eighteen months to develop what you've just seen. All this time, we’ve been funded by a private investor, to the tune of almost 1.5 million dollars in total. We hope the product you’ve seen reflects that."

Cloud_imperium

@PetJel This crowd funding campaign was launched to prove that there is demand for such game . Rest of the money will be given by private investors .

Are you brain dead, the article said that the developer hopes to bring this game to consoles, they never said it will, furthermore so what if they keep labeling the game as such because until the developer says otherwise any site can label it as they please, so in the meantime you might want to try reading the articles a bit more before jumping to conclusion.

tom2750

@wexorian consoles are more popular then PC multi plat games almost always sell way more on consoles then PC

linthes999
linthes999

@DiamondDM13 I think they needed the 300k benchmark to convince their private investor (already invested 1.5m I believe) that the game does have an audience to cater to.  There was doubt, seeing as every publisher they pitched the game to turned it down. Now that they've reached their milestone, their private investor will continue to invest in their game.

UpInFlames
UpInFlames

@justinhaywald@UpInFlamesThat's good, but the real issue here is that you guys ran an article about this game a few days ago with a similar title and not only has it not been changed after countless people pointed out the same discrepancy as they did here, you proceed to run another article on the game just a few days later again labeling it as a Xbox One/PS4 game. And yes, they are planning to release it on those platforms, but the only platforms it's surely coming out for is PC, Mac and Linux. The titles for both articles simply didn't match the facts or even the text within the articles themselves because it gave the impression that it was only coming out for Xbox One and PS4.

@BigBossWato Did you even read the Kickstarter page for this game? At this exact moment, it is a PC/Mac/Linux game AND NOTHING MORE. It may come to consoles eventually, but nothing has been confirmed yet. So do tell me, how it is GOOD JOURNALISM to put in the title of this article "Xbox One and PS4 RPG..." when the game may never see a release on those platforms? Enlighten me, please.

Cloud_imperium
Cloud_imperium

@BigBossWatoThe developers have confirmed that it's coming to PC in 2015 . They didn't say about console release date and only said that they are hoping for it . Title of the article says Xbox One and PS4 game , the game is not even confirmed for consoles and confirmed PC platform is completely left out in title . That's misleading .

@tom2750@wexorian Considering digital stores don't give out official sales figures, that statement is speculative at best.

@linthes999 This exactly. Hopefully the speed they got this consumer funding will have done the trick.

Fabian85

Kickstarter says set to release in 2015 for pc mac and linux not xb1 and ps4. Also what version of the game will pledgers get? Clearly funded by pc players they smashed the kickstarter goal noone else so give credit where it is due and admit the mistake.

DeadorRock
DeadorRock

@justinhaywald No, the Kickstarter page is crystal clear about it: PC will get a release no matter what, consoles depend on approval. My point is that the title of the article made it look like it is a console exclusive, while it's not even a confirmed console title yet. Talk about a misleading title, huh? Furthermore, this is the second time an article about this game is titled like this.

Glad someone stepped up and fixed it. Thanks.

justinhaywald
justinhaywald moderator staff

@DeadorRock @BigBossWato  Really? So the part in the Kickstarter where it says, "

  • Planned platforms: PC, Xbox One*, PS4*, Mac, Linux"

Is just wrong? The only caveat is approval from the platform holder (and why wouldn't they receive that?) Also, this generation of consoles is closer to PC development than any previous generation, making the jump between console and PC even easier.

BigBossWato
BigBossWato

I don't remember writing if it was good journalism but I do remember writing that they are "hoping" this game comes to consoles.
