Kim Kardashian's Video Game Could Generate $200 Million This Year

"It might be our biggest game of the year," developer Glu Mobile says about reality TV star's newly released free mobile game.

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian's newly released video game, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, could generate as much as $200 million this year through in-app purchases. That's according to video game industry analyst Doug Creutz, who talks about the free mobile game as part of a Bloomberg feature today.

"There's no such thing as bad publicity, right?" Creutz said. "Obviously, Kim Kardashian's brand has driven people to download the game. But at this point, the game has taken on a life of its own."

To put the $200 million figure into context, Electronic Arts' free-to-play mobile game The Simpsons: Tapped Out took more than a year to reach $100 million in lifetime revenue.

Released on June 25, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood was a chart-topper for free-to-play games on the US iTunes app store, and has seen millions of installs on Android. The game was developed by Glu Mobile, and its success drove shores of the company up 44 percent.

"It might be our biggest game of the year," CEO Niccolo de Masi said. "We're not surprised. Kim is a one-of-a-kind talent with an incredibly precise fit to the game engine that we tailored but already had in the company."

In the game, you create your own character, and live the life of a celebrity. You can walk the red carpet, visit clubs, and buy luxury homes. The game even lets you date and dump celebrities in an effort to "become the next huge celebrity power-couple." Kardashian is married in real life to rapper Kanye West.

Kim Kardashian: Hollywood is free, with its revenue instead coming from in-app purchases for things like clothing or a "burst of energy" for making your way through Hollywood. These in-app purchase range from a few dollars for necklace to $60 for a "huge star pack."

Her game should be called The Hobbit: Hollywood.

Just another sheep pouring more money into rich people's pockets story. You know the ending. Stupidity sells and everyone's buying.

I'm not one for crying over free-to-play or mobile games but this...this is exactly the type of game that ire should be directed at. I;m not sure what's worse the creators of these types of games or those who actually spend money on this crap. Then again maybe I have no right to judge since I've never or never will play this game

Good, I hope the whole company sinks underwater.

To think the reason this whole family is so rich and famous is because Kim screwed Ray J and put the tape online.  Kim really took one for the team lol.

Now this is a game that Yahtzee should review, just to heavily criticize it as much as possible and then inevitably give it the Worst Game Forever Until A More Worse Game Comes Along Award. Better known as "Lifetime Achievement Award for Total Abhorrence. Yes, that means it's a game that's worse than Ride to Hell: Retribution.

'Talent" and "Kim Khardasian" should never be put in the same sentence together. -_-

I'm not sure why this is so upsetting, the people who are throwing money at this junk very likely wouldn't be throwing money at decent games, so it's not as if its lost revenue for proper game devs.

"Kim is a one-of-a-kind talent"

I don't understand. I'm pretty sure those words can't be used together in a sentence.

I think Xbots, Sony fans, Nintendo gamers, and the PC master race can all agree, this is the worst game ever.

When you play trash like this do not call yourself a gamer. You are not one of us. You never will be. Find another hobby.

Well, Since I love White/European women, I must download! At least, I have a game to play this summer!

@DawnBlue Yeah, that made me wonder: "Did it affect the coastal lines or what?" Even if people flooded to the game, that seems quite unlikely."

@toddx77 The important thing is that things didn't go south after that, they went (Kanye) West.

@50_Ft_Kingie Ask yourself this question, then- what investor is going to put up the money for the next AAA game in your favorite genre when they can get a much higher ROI from drek like this instead?

@ADomenick91092 well it can, she's able to generate revenue off her fame of being nothing but the daughter of the oj simpsons lawyer. She's a marketable celebrity, and you are not, so she has more talent and success than you a nobody

@tr4newreck "Kim is a one-of-a-kind talent" One-of-a-kind talent = singular talent, i.e. we're moving towards the singularity.

@majere613 @50_Ft_Kingie Listen to this man here, he speaks the truth. (Unless it's a woman, in which case she speaks the truth)

Who is gonna pay for the development of REAL games if these "games" of unholy retard levels generate hundreds of millions of revenue with minimal costs...

@Deano @ADomenick91092  only one problem with that statement you don't know who ADomenick91092 is for all you know he/she could be Will Smith or the president of the USA or even Jessica alba etc
