Killzone: Shadow Fall taps Homeland, True Blood actors

Guerrilla Games working with David Harewood and Jamie Gray Hyder on upcoming PlayStation 4 shooter.

by

Beyond: Two Souls is not the only upcoming PlayStation exclusive to feature Hollywood talent.

Guerrilla Games announced today that David Harewood (Blood Diamond, Homeland) and Jamie Gray Hyder (True Blood) will play roles in the upcoming PlayStation 4 first-person shooter Killzone: Shadow Fall.

Harewood will play Vektan Security Agency director Sinclair, while Hyder has been cast as Echo, an intelligence operative for the Helghast. Both actors are lending their physical performance, voice, and likeness to their respective roles.

Killzone: Shadow Fall is a PS4 launch title set 30 years after the events of Killzone 3. It takes place in a new world and puts players into the boots of an all-new hero, the Shadow Marshal.

As for Beyond: Two Souls, that game launches exclusively for the PlayStation on October 8. It features the performance and voice work of Ellen Page (Inception, Juno), and Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man, The Boondock Saints).

The plot of this new game is very difficult to make, because the franchise is based  in the ISA faction; a bunch idiots (sev, rico, Hakha (the traitor), Luger and Templar)  that destroyed the entire planet and  killed  million of  men, women and children. The worst ending in the gaming story.

The only thing that is great in all the franchise is K2's multiplayer, because is very deep, addictive and the most important you can choose sides. For K3's multiplayer, the things were bad, because you cant choose sides.

Shadow Fall could be the last of the series because the killzone's story is bad, maybe with new characters, new plot and a dual campaign with ISA and helghast, GG can attract the  dissapointed players. I'll wait until the review.

In my book, no matter how good a FPS game is suppose to be, it'll never be higher than a 8.5. The limited view and awry feel of FPS alone are negative points. Killzone is quite a generic FPS with nice graphics; nothing special as a fun game.

Games that suck do not sell.. Okay all you clowns talking shit about killzone probably sucked at it..

KillZone PS2 - 940 Thousand Worldwide

KillZone 2 PS3 - 2.48 Million Copies sold worldwide KillZone 3 PS3 - 2.90 Million Copies sold worldwide
Everybody whining about KillZone just shut up you sucked at it.. if it was so bad why did you buy it  ???
They always offer the demo before the game comes out.. The  A.I. in killzone games are one of the best around.. because you can't kill a helghast with one bullet doesn't make it a bad game.. Have you ever thought its your terrible hand eye coordination and strategy.. ??
All you gamers with two left hands #dealwithit.. KillZone is a Great game..

Jamie Gray Hyder, isn't she that werewolf chick who had a 3 way with Alcide & another chick a few episodes back? She had nice boobies.

Well, the story of 2 and 3 was kind of awful as were the characters, so at least now they're pretty much starting with a new narrative in the same universe.  But I still like 2 and 3 and thought it had some of the best FPS single-player action around.  Definitely looking forward to Shadow Fall and even the Vita one looks to be pretty good.

The 27 people who will buy this game are really excited.

Eh, I'm personally put off a bit  by real life well known actors being in games. :/

no matter you do to this series, it will always stay a shallow shooter

I may be a little late to the table but I just finished Killzone 2 the other day and I have to say it is one of the absolute worst SP games I have played in recent memory. Graphically it is a triumph, truly impressive for that day, however that's where it ends:

Slow, whack-a-mole gameplay and all I seemed to be armed with were water pistols. Seriously, those guns felt so incredibly weak, I may as well have brought a rubber chicken into battle. The Higs don't even really register when you shoot them, you just keep loading them up with bullets and hope they fall down. Then there's the terrible controls, with no real option of changing them to something sensible. Iron/reflex sights with R3? What the hell is that? Coupled with the clunky cover mechanic which only seems to work half the time, I almost broke my tiny PS3 controller in half. Plus the infinite respawn monster-closet moments were stupid and came at weird times, and made me wonder if some gunfights were being fought against infinitely spawning enemies, or if there were just a lot of enemies to clear (final fight with Radec). Bad generic story, woeful partner AI that made me hate my teammates when the story was insisting I care about them.

I get that people were impressed with the visuals, but to have overlooked the tedious, boring and frustrating gameplay just boggles my mind. Come to think of it, the same thing has happened with Uncharted and it's truly uninspiring shooting sections that just seemed to be overlooked by the masses (10/10? Pfft). Am I going crazy here!? I bought Killzone3 for $20 and I'm seriously hoping it steps up it's game compared to 2. My heart simply can't bear it...

@l_skipper @ThrashMatt26 @wgerardi  Killzone Shadow runs at 30 FPS, so what all of you don't understand is that Playing Multiplayer at 30 FPS makes lag more obvious, if you ran 60 fps, the game runs "ok" to whats actually displayed over the internet.  Take COD for example, in Black Ops 2 you watch your kill cam and every other kill it will show your killer shooting "air" around you even though you were killed, which also reflects game play hit detection performance. I've watch myself on the "kill cam" on the winning kill in COD and even though I shot him accuratly, it shows me on the kill cam shooting around his body.  And that's with 60FPS, Comparing FPS to single player, it doesn't matter, but Multiplayer...every frame counts, in Multiplayer the lower the FPS the more frustration will pursue, 30 FPS is worse compared to 60 FPS.  The best would be 80-100 FP

such a big budget.  Getting actors from highly rated shows isn't cheap.  Hope they sell well.

Killzone is one of the PS4 games i'm looking at though the last 2 were shit, and the first one wasn't anything special either, it's good there going down the motion capture route and using actors in the motion capture as well, similar to what Halo 4 did with their actor's and motion capture tech it's a good thing it makes the characters seem more real.

i really hope this KZ is gonna be good because the last 3 were quite lackluster graphically impressive especially for a console but very lack luster reminds me of crysis. Sony throws a lot into KZ and it just haven't been seeing the pay off so maybe things will change with this one.

I think I'm getting this at launch along with battlefield and drive club. I'm actually not the biggest Killzone fan - didnt even beat 2 (although I thought it looked gorgeous) and I missed 3 altogether - but I feel like this is gonna just be insanely good for some reason. I guess I don't really care too much about the voice actors though because I don't even know who they are but I still think its cool that they're really putting effort into the campaign that's pretty awesome attention to detail. I just hope these games SCREAM next gen cause Im dropping dough for this system lol

ok, but why the hell 30 fps ?

@Adavanter FINALLY someone shares my thoughts on Killzone 2 and 3!

Killzone 1 was the only good Killzone IMHO.  A variety of characters to play as with differing play styles, a compelling plot that kept the pace going, and it actually features people who weren't just Big McLargeHuge archetypes.

@ForceSkin Haters gone Hate… I love it it's called Good A.I.  Some gimmick like Call of Duty.. When a bullet grazes one person they die… The Higs are tough to kill.. period

you suck at playing it and cry that what i gather from your rants.. if the game sucked why did it sell.. ?? So please just shut up..

@l_skipper since when has 30fps been such a big deal on consoles? majority of games run 30fps or even less with constant framerate drops. Now you have a next gen you expect 1080p @ 60fps... really? Better get a pc because it's not going to happen except for the simplest games.

@Fo_Fai @Jasurim Brad Pitt is the sex, I want him out of my dreams and into my video games.

ForceSkin

@Glasscut32 @ForceSkin I finished it on Veteran in 8.5 hours while juggling a PhD and family duties so I'm pretty sure I was proficient enough at the game. I don't care how tough the Higs are, when I hit them with a bullet, it's nice to get visual recognition they're registering. The Locust are tough in GoW, but the hit detection is quite visceral. The game sold well because PS3 owners needed a reason to love again. They were so overwhelmed by the graphics that they overlooked the truly terrible aspects of its SP gameplay. I'm fairly sure the MP was popular too (which helps sell units a la COD), although I haven't played that

@ThrashMatt26 @wgerardi @l_skipper I really loved the original HALO on original xbox running at 30 fps. It didn't hurt my eyes back then. But now we have great looking games coming our way :BF4 with 64 player at 60 FPS. That's just insane on a console ( I'm not gonna believe it till I see it :) And I'm no expert by all means but Killzone SF just doesn't look THAT amazing to slow it to run 30 fps. Was 30 FPS inplemented to enhance the experience ? I don't think so

ThrashMatt26
ThrashMatt26

@wgerardi @ThrashMatt26 @l_skipper lol, ok I misunderstood, it's all just personally opinion and preference though, we obviously think differently when it comes to frame rate, and I don't see either of us convincing the other of switching sides. good spar though. also it appears one of the comments Is still pending regarding a video showing why 30fps is better for singleplayer and 60 is better for multiplayer. I recommend a watch when it's done pending.

@ThrashMatt26 @wgerardi @l_skipper I wasn't saying that they were haha, I was just saying it would make more sense to me if Quantic were to use it for their slow, cinematic games. I feel like just the fact that Killzone is a first person shooter, meaning you are supposed to be looking at it through your own eyes kind of removes most of the cinematic aspect anyway.... unless you are looking through a gopro attached to the characters head.

ThrashMatt26
ThrashMatt26

@wgerardi @ThrashMatt26 @l_skipper I agree, 60fps is great for competitive multiplayer, I still personally prefer 30fps for singleplayer as to not sacrifice processing power that could be used for better graphics. and that's actually interesting to hear about quantic using 24fps (standard movie fps) id never heard that before, thanks.

ThrashMatt26
ThrashMatt26

yes I take back what I said about "we" I apologize

Henrique2324
Henrique2324

@wgerardi @ThrashMatt26 @l_skipper There's just no sense in ever picking 60 FPS over 30. This man is deluded.

wgerardi
wgerardi

@ThrashMatt26 @l_skipper @wgerardi It's still pretty fast paced though. I can understand someone like David Cage adopting a 24fps style, but when you're running through hallways and your character is moving 20mph its all about that buttery smoothness.

Henrique2324
Henrique2324

@ThrashMatt26 If you said personally, then don't act on behalf of other people. The majority clearly prefer 60 FPS over 30 FPS. It's just more pleasing to the eye. I don't care if you wear an eyepatch or splash horse cum on your eyes regularly, there is only one reason most of our games aren't locked at 60 FPS: Console limitations.

ThrashMatt26
ThrashMatt26

@l_skipper @ThrashMatt26 @wgerardi one reason could be higher production costs or that a higher frame rate uses up the processing power more which means we would need to sacrifice graphics capabilities more. watch this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7xoVS57HXg - he basically states for single-player he prefers 30fps because the graphics don't suffer but as far as multiplayer goes it's 60 fps with lesser graphics so he can be more competitive. makes sense. didn't mean to ruffle any feathers.

l_skipper
l_skipper

@ThrashMatt26 @wgerardi all I'm saying is I just can't see any reason ( when it comes to visuals ) that could justify 30 pfs in this game.

wgerardi
wgerardi

@ThrashMatt26 It looked weird because it looked like IRL. 24fps and the motion blur that comes with it is a cinematic feeling- not an IRL feeling that games try to achieve.

ThrashMatt26
ThrashMatt26

@wgerardi @ThrashMatt26 @l_skipper The human eye can interpret anything 30fps and up as fluid, the more frames however the more your brain has to acknowledge because things tend to more at a slightly faster than natural rate with 60. remember when people were complaining because the hobbit was put in 48fps because things didn't move naturally, same thing. it's essentially a needless "improvement" that essentially breaks emersion.

wgerardi
wgerardi

@ThrashMatt26 @wgerardi @l_skipper I'm pretty sure your brain is doing less work by having more FPS. The human eye sees at something like 100fps (i think its a tad more complicated) so your brain has to fill in those lost frames.

l_skipper
l_skipper

@wgerardi @ThrashMatt26 @l_skipper 30 fps game , 60 fps game, 30 fps game and then again 60 fps. I'd rather have all games runing at 30 fps then that mess I'd have to put my eyes through

ThrashMatt26
ThrashMatt26

@wgerardi @ThrashMatt26 @l_skipper actually, no, your brain is working harder to process more information with 60fps, plus I said personally, do you know me personally, no, so you cant just what irritates my eyes in comparison to yours. I said we don't need 60fps because we really don't, production costs go up exponentially for such a small "improvement"

wgerardi
wgerardi

@ThrashMatt26 @wgerardi @l_skipper No you don't. Why the Hell would anyone find a smoother, more consistent framerate less pleasing to the eye? Your brain is literally doing less work, dude.
