Killzone: Shadow Fall season pass revealed

$20 offering will introduce wave-based co-op mode, three co-op map packs, and two multiplayer expansions to PlayStation 4 first-person shooter.

by

Guerrilla Games today announced the Killzone: Shadow Fall season pass, a $20 offering that includes access to traditional multiplayer expansions as well as co-op add-ons.

The online co-op expansion pack featured in the Killzone: Shadow Fall season pass introduces an all-new co-op game mode where players will team up with three others to face waves of enemies. This mode is set on four arena-style maps and features a "unique levelling system" and new unlocks.

Three map packs for the co-op mode will also be offered as part of the Killzone: Shadow Fall season pass. Guerrilla Games pointed out that these maps would only work with the online co-op expansion pack.

The season pass will also introduce two additional multiplayer expansion packs. More details about these add-ons will be shared as Killzone: Shadow Fall's November 15 launch date approaches, Guerrilla Games said.

Unlike past entries in the series and contemporary shooters like Call of Duty and Battlefield, Killzone: Shadow Fall's multiplayer mode will not feature XP-based progression. Instead, the next-generation Killzone will feature player advancement through a series of challenges.

Lastly, those who purchase the season pass on day one will receive access to an "exclusive" OWL combat drone skin and a "unique" multiplayer spotlight move.

Guerrilla Games did not say when any of the season pass content would be released.

Killzone: Shadow Fall--set 30 years after the events of Killzone 3--takes place in a new world and puts players into the boots of an all-new hero, the Shadow Marshal. For more on Killzone: Shadow Fall, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

This game doesn't look all that great anyways....damn wtf am I going to play at launch? Oh ya my ps3 still, while my ps4 collects dust till a decent exclusive comes out. Over my dead body would I ever pay $60 for this garbage.

I really can't even put into words how much I hate "season pass" and day 1 DLC. This is just another reason to find methods of pirating I'll never support a game that has this approach.

awesome! this game already looks great. and now they already have plenty of additional content planned! but yeah the co-op mode should already be in the game in some form...

They should include a season pass for free with a NEW game.  You buy the game new and enter a season pass code in which is then locked to your account.  (it deprecriates the value of a used game) That theory could help them with the sales of a new game as opposed to a tradein game.  COD is the worst with this, $95 for the game, and a whopping $60 for a season pass.

Kill Zone killed my interests in ever buying Kill Zone with its announcement of Season Pass to Co-Op play.

Sounds like stuff that should be included ALREADY in the actual game, but is being clipped out to gate people for more money on top of now having to pay a subscription on a Sony system where as games on PC still allow you to game for free unless the game itself is Pay to Play or has microtransactions.

Whelp. I was only gonna buy Destiny anyways.

Co-Op should be included already in the game....We need to stop buying this type of ish...They are taking advantage of us...Far are the days when we would just buy a game and everything was already included.   Paying $60 for the game paying $50 for multiplayer and then on top another $20 for Co-op...Get out of here with that BS!!!

So If you don't buy the subs fee you'll experience half the game, now even less with the DLC? Wow they sure like to keep these things "optional"

Season Pass w/o single player DLC is never on my must-have list.

Smart move on Guerilla Games and Sony's part. Lower the price of the season pass in order to gain more season pass holders. Only way for Killzone's online to compete with COD and Battlefield, in terms of the "number of people online".

Killzone: Shadow Fall will be the best FPS of the year. But, as was the case with Killzone 3, it will be the least played online.

Season pass?! holy cannoli, the same shit now on next gen! its such a nice thing seeing technology moving forward.

So the muliplayer maps are still free. Here is what they said:

'Killzone Shadow Fall will launch with 10 multiplayer maps. All the multiplayer maps that will be released as DLC will be free to everyone. The multiplayer expansion packs will be charged for however they do not divide the playerbase e.g. you will still be able to play with players who have not purchased the multiplayer expansion pack, they will have additional options.'

if you want to stop all the DLC bullshit, STOP BUYING IT.

numbers speak the loudest.

No one was very impressed with Killzone at E3 this year, so this news is especially laughable.

Looks interesting a co op mode, maybe like spartan ops ( halo 4) or  operations mode (Killzone 3). 20 USd for a season pass is acceptable in comparison with other games ( COD prestige edition 200 USD, Battlefield Premium 50 USD)

I'm done with DLC's, season passes, & collectors editions. Finally seeing them for what they are just money sucking garbage. There so many games now that I don't even have time for all of them. I would rather buy a regular game beat it and buy a different one.

I don't pay for season pass, I don't pay for a product NOT YET EXIST, PERIOD!

Great price for a season pass. Even though the single player portions of the Killzone series have been awful, the multiplayer components have always been solid.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like it would be better for any developer or publisher to never say they will have DLC after a game's release. I think that if they don't say it, but end up releasing it anyways later on down the road, like a few months later, it might result in different perspectives for people.

Basically, if a person didn't know this was coming, how would they feel when it releases one Tuesday during a PSN update? I don't know, but it'd be interesting to find out compared to the pre-knowledge of DLC and made aware of its release ahead of time, with pricing and all.

Lets say Killzone shadow fall sells 100,000 units...less than half will play the multiplayer...and then out of the 50,000 less than half of them will stick around past a month...so you have around 20,000 players...then they sell DLC in 3 months and there is less than 5,000 people playing...around 200 of those people will buy the Co-Op DLC...and in less than a month around 15 people will still be playing it...so you have about 15 people to play with and most of them are in Zimbabwe on dial up...so good luck buying KZSF and the DLC with all this.

This is exactly what will happen...mark my words and write them on a notepad on your desktop because I have predicted the predicable future...

@Spid3r6 Exactly. But a lot of gamers only because they have the money for it, go ahead and pay for this. Ignoring that it is NOT about if you have the money, but that these policies need to end.

It would be surprising if it were to be the best FPS of the year. though titanfall is coming in 2014 right?

@PETERAKO Of course. Why wouldn't it? Look how much money silly gamers put into BF Premium, or just look at CoD DLC. They sold like hot bread.

Sad really.

@GABRIEL10302008 only problem is gears of war 3 has co op mode free maps etc and only cost $60 this game cost $80 to have co op thats what i call a joke if microsoft did this  you would have 10,000 sony trolls talking trash about a game they say they dont care about

CallMeDuraSouka

Not to mention this is a brand new take on multiplayer, why would you pay for a season pass for something that has not been done before.

CorkeyFord

@megadeth1117 Hmm, I've always thought the opposite. I enjoy the singleplayer, but multiplayer never appealed to me. There's simply a lack of content compared to games like Battlefield with only a handful of weapons and no attachments to unlock. Ranking up and unlocking new stuff has always been one of the things I enjoy most about online multiplayer and KZ never really excelled in that way. I also really hate the fact that one of the classes can become invisible, which makes camping way too easy. Playing with bots is good mindless fun though.

@Red_Armadilloe  Announce DLC after a portion of their audience has traded in the game at GameStop, and no doubt moved on to other games? =/

@emptycow718 @GABRIEL10302008 Only a joke if your in it ONLY for co op.

Considering the way it's been done in the past: 3-4 map packs with 2 mp maps at $15 a pack, well, this deal is a LOT better.

$20 for 8 maps, co op modes and maps, plus whatever else they decide to throw in

GABRIEL10302008
GABRIEL10302008

You are right, but I enjoyed very much to be a Premium Player at Battlefield 3 ( it cost 50 USD). Sorry mate, but  there is a big difference playing  with the normal MP and the PREMIUM MP ( 20 new maps, 20 new weapons, 5 new vehicles and 5 new modes). Is my personal opinion.

liandrikonflict

@tom2750 @liandrikonflict Well good luck...competition for FPS games at lauch includes COD Ghosts, BF4...and people will probably save their money for Titanfall and Destiny...

@tom2750 @warhawk-smakaho Why do illiterate idiots like you support Business Models that give you a partial game and milk you for the rest by calling it "DLC"?

Why don't you do some research on the 90's and educate yourself why you are being ass fucked by greed and opportunism.

Or do you want to feel right so bad that you simply cannot perceive an alternate point of view?

svaubel

@tom2750 @warhawk-smakaho Because season passes mean that your $60 is paying for an incomplete game. And the publishers are waving this fact in your face.

So have fun buying incomplete packages if that is your thing.

tom2750
tom2750

@TheWatcher000 did you ever think it was possible that developers don't always finish DLC before the game is supposed to go into production to be shipped all over the world there is nothing wrong with companies completing there game then when it is being packaged in factories they start working on additional content to give people more stuff if they want to pay for it and before you say they are just holding out content so they can make more money how the fuck would you know? like I said for all you know they could of started working on the dlc AFTER the games has already been completely finished and is ready to be shipped to other countries or maybe they had already started working on the dlc before the game was finished but the DLC would not be completed before the game is supposed to ship so instead they have it as DLC and even if they did add the DLC as just part of the main game then what if they want to ADD more content for there customers do they keep the game from shipping just so they can add content then the game would never be released

proletaryus
proletaryus

@TheWatcher000 The games were way simpler and had less "production values" than currently, the investors were not chasing after the publishers and developers, grabbing and  bloodsucking  their necks so fiercely, there were no "corporate review sites" and metacritic rates to beat, where a game can be subjectively graded and sent to Oblivion (pun intended) because a reckless review thinks something in the game is misogyny .   I believe the past developers had slightly better structure and resources   than current Indie Developers, big  titles are not 1 to 2 million budge any longer, they are going over 10,50 a 100 million.  A season pass like this one is reasonable, there are others that are cruel, but gamer community could use Its common sense to detect what is plain greed x fair charge.
