Killzone: Mercenary open beta hits in August

Sony confirms those who missed out on the closed beta can take part in open trial beginning late next month.

by

Sony today announced that a multiplayer open beta for PlayStation Vita game Killzone: Mercenary will take place in late August.

The company also announced today that sign-ups for the Killzone: Mercenary closed beta, which opened earlier this month, are now closed. The beta will begin today for those chosen to participate.

Killzone: Mercenary launches September 10 and uses the same engine as Killzone 3.

The single-player campaign to Killzone: Mercenary will feature nine missions that are reportedly each close to an hour long, and the game will include an eight-player multiplayer mode spread across six maps and three gametypes.

This beta is sweet! Definitely picking this up. I got so caught up in playing a few matches that I forgot I was playing on a handheld.

Seems strange. A studio who holds a Beta usually wants their product to be good. And this is happening to a hand held title? Inconceivable! :P

Sony touted the  Vita  as something you could use for remote play for all PS4 games. At least that was my understanding. I have read a couple of articles, now they are saying  remote play will only be guaranteed to work with PS4 exclusives. they made such a big deal about it when they first showed off the PS4 I almost went and bought one. Now I don't think it will be worth it.

@javenandy I'm assuming you're talking about the email you got? Where it said "Thank you for your participation in the early access public beta for Killzone™: Mercenary that begins on August 20th. To download the beta redeem the voucher code after the store update on August 20th." I downloaded my beta yesterday and there was no "Store Update".

@spartanx169x You are wrong. Remote Play (streaming a PS4 game to your PS Vita's screen through AdHoc or Wifi) works on ALL PS4 games, except those that use the camera (for obvious reasons).

The recent reports were on Cross-Controller (using a Vita as a replacement for your Dualshock 4 and like a Wii U Gamepad). That will only work if developers decide to use it.

@spartanx169x I'm not sure I can believe that using the Vita as your permanent controller was a selling point for the PS4.

@RicanV @spartanx169x Oh ,and it wasn't a selling point for the PS4 , but it was a selling point(for my to buy the Vita) for the Vita. Basedon Super's comment below I still have hope.

@spartanx169x @supermoc10 I might be wrong but the remote play was supposed to be enforced by PS4 for almost all games. But I don't see it now that they are saying not all games will be compatible with the Vita as a controller.
