Killzone 3 limited edition packs in replica Helghast mask

Collectible edition of Guerrilla Games' first-person shooter also packs in action figure, art book, DLC voucher for $130, hits shelves alongside standard release on February 22.

Despite its namesake, Guerrilla Games is going for maximum visibility with its upcoming PlayStation 3-exclusive Killzone 3. Today, the Sony subsidiary revealed a decidedly attention-grabbing $130 limited-edition package for its upcoming first-person shooter.

Who doesn't want something like that sitting on a bookshelf, watching them with unblinking eyes as they sleep?

When it launches alongside the standard version of Killzone 3 February 22, the Helghast Edition of the sci-fi first-person shooter will pack in a replica mask and helmet of the series' signature Helghast armies. While the headgear is the centerpiece of the extra goodies, the collector's edition will also include a 6.5-inch articulated Cloaking Helghast Marksman action figure and an art book.

The Helghast Edition will also include a voucher to download the game's soundtrack and a dynamic theme from the PlayStation Store, as well as access to a pair of Killzone 2 multiplayer maps and perks for the first 24 hours of the game's multiplayer action, such as double experience points and access to all weapons and abilities. The map pack will also be available to gamers who preorder the regular version of Killzone 3 through participating retailers.

As the name suggests, Killzone 3 will serve as a direct sequel to 2009's critically lauded Killzone 2. In last year's title, the Interplanetary Strategic Alliance took the fight to the Helghan homeworld, where it achieved a measure of success against the Nazi-esque civilization that invaded the human colony of Vekta in the 2004 original.

Killzone 3 will introduce jetpack gameplay to the sci-fi shooter series, giving the ability to thrust skyward for a limited period of time. It will also add full support for 3D TVs, as well as Sony's motion-sensing PlayStation Move peripheral.

@tequilasunriser Where do I even suggest that one is more realistic than the other? Clearly I don't. I simply stated that one is aimed at grown-ups and the other appeals more to children with it's Saturday morning cartoon feel. I'm sorry that this confused you. So to you all futuristic, fictional shooters are so alike that any attempt to distinguish them would be fruitless? Now who's being arbritary?

tequilasunriser
tequilasunriser

@eastwoodmaniac "I can think of a difference right off the bat: Halo is a cartoon; Killzone is for grown ups" Cartoon and grownup? That doesn't even make sense. Those are arbitrary descriptions. You could have said Halo is coffee mug and Killzone is lamp and it would have made about just as much sense as that nonsense you just said. lol Both games are fictional, futuristic shooters so if you were trying to justify one as being more realistic than the other you failed to the highest degree.

eastwoodmaniac

@tequilasunriser I can think of a difference right off the bat: Halo is a cartoon; Killzone is for grown ups. The online experience of Halo with it's barrage of over excited, sugar-loaded children screaming expletives at each other is confirmation of that.

tequilasunriser
tequilasunriser

lol Stupid? "They are completely different games" I've GOT to hear you elaborate on that one. It's an fps. You kill enemies along your set path. End of story. You're delusional if you think there is much of a difference between Killzone and Halo. In fact, Killzone was first created on the PS2 as a "Halo killer." Now they are including a helmet with their grossly over priced game.... Hmmm which franchise also (and first) included a helmet with their grossly over priced game?

Marked_by_chaos

@tequilasunriser Killzone wishes it was Halo? That's rather stupid to associate the two don't you think? I think its a fantastic idea to put in an Helghast Helmet because when I think of Killzone I think of the Helghast, I think of those red eyes, I think of that helmet. Similar to Mastercheif's Helmet when thinking of Halo. They are completely different games (other than they are both FPS) But you are right about the graphics, not important but boy its a selling point because they are great and give the game life.

tequilasunriser
tequilasunriser

The Killzone series wishes it was Halo so bad. What does Killzone have to offer that hasn't been done already? If anyone mentions graphics, they're a tool. We all know graphics are the least important factor in what makes a great game.

I really wish the helmet is lfe-size. I so want to dress up as a Helghast. Most badass-looking enemies in a game ever, despite the obvious inspiration from the Jin Roh anime.

@buying1999 To bad motion control's isn't forced and isn't a huge part of the game like you think it is. I gotta love the 360 fanboy's who are stucking playing crap game's like Halo I almost feel sorry for them. Killzone will have better graphics then ANY 360 game out or coming out and PS Move is the far superior of the motion control systems. The only reason Kinect won't be a huge gimmick is because it's going to be a huge failure.

Yeah...keep paying 130$ for a video game that comes with extra plastic "goodies" that cost the company about 3-4 dollars to produce and package. Also would like to see just how many of these "limited editions" are getting produced. This is not a knock on this game, I hear good things about it, but these "superduper exta awesome editions" are getting out of control. Thumb this down all you want but anyone who enjoys paying more then double the price for some novelty items that will get thrown away or be collecting dust in a couple years deserves what they get. The future of video games is 100 dollar price tags on regular versions. These companies just keep getting bolder and bolder with thier cash grabs...and there are always those who lap it up.

This game will be awesome by itself and sell millions, and in relation to add ons, I think this game will determine the sales and future of the Move and 3D gaming for Sony.

sennapods

I'd consider shelling out that many shekels only if the helmet were wearable. Otherwise, its just not worth it to me. An art book and action figure won't immerse me in the IP as much as wearing the helmet would. Gaming is all about immersion for me.

PatchMaster
PatchMaster

They need to stop with the collector's editions that cost more than two full price games. If they did a "legendary" version for this price and a basic collector's edition for say $80 it would make more sense. It's worked for Halo, CoD, etc.

To be honest, I didn't think Killzone 2 was fun to play. It had superb visuals and sound but the controls and the story were awful.

@raptor1906 Fallout New Vegas came with a deck of cards with every card having a picture not just face cards, and it had a graphic novel which normally sells for $15-$20. So with F:NV you got your moneys worth. Some are good, though the new collectors edition standard of being $20 more is getting old.

Toysoldier34

Wow... I probably wasn't going to get Killzone 3 on launch. But that figure and helmet looks pretty sick. Though the $130 is off putting.

I hate Collector's Editions. They make me want to spend money on things that are completely useless. But somehow, they still draw me in with their really cool collectibles.. No way I'm paying $130 for a single game though, no matter how awesome the Helghast helmet is.
