Killer Instinct's Free Campaign Mode Out Today
Alongside Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition, the free Shadow Lords mode is out now.
Killer Instinct's Shadow Lords was announced back in March, and now the free single-player mode is out now for everyone. The new mode has been described as "part ladder, part arcade mode, part story mode, and part roguelike."
Shadow Lords tasks players with defeating Gargos before his invasion of Earth is successful. Players will choose one character as their main and then put together a team of other fighters from the game's roster. As more characters are added to Killer Instinct, Shadow Lords will receive more content.
On top of the fighting, Shadow Lords offers a bunch of loot to earn and stuff to craft. The in-game currency, KI Gold, can also be spent to get to rare content sooner than normal. KI Gold can be both earned in-game and bought with real money.
Shadow Lords is available now to all Killer Instinct players. It comes the same day as Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition, which costs $40 and includes all of the fighters, stages, costumes, and accessories released so far. Players also get a Gold Gargos skin and, if bought at retail, the original soundtrack.
Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition releases for Windows 10 PC later this year. It's part of the Play Anywhere program, so if you buy the game on Xbox One digitally, then you'll get the PC version for free and vice versa.
